OriginalGainsborough painted several portraits of the talented Linley family; a successful teacher, musician and composer, Thomas senior's children were described by Charles Burney as a "Nest of Nightingales". The family had close ties with the Sheridan family (in fact, Elizabeth Ann Linley married Richard Brinsley Sheridan) and Linley senior had a share in the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. He appears to have been quite handsome and his children were said to be very attractive; Gainsborough never painted a portrait of Linley's wife though ...
