Bee Pollinating a Rose edit

A bee crawls among the stamens of a rose collecting pollen on its hindlegs. The female reproducive organ of the rose (the pistil) can be seen as the globular rough surfaced structure to the left of the bee.

This image captures a number of features of the pollenation process. These include, the collection of pollen by the bee on its hidlegs, the degree to which the pollen covers the animal, both sexual structures of the flower. Furthermore it is a nice visual example of the closeness of the interactions between insects and plants, and the color and composition are striking in my opinion. The image appears in the pollination article currently but would also be appropriate for other articles such as those on bees, stamens, pistils, roses, or coevolution. I took the photograph.

  • Support. Is that really a rose? And isn't it "pollinating" not "pollenating"? --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 20:42, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
