Uploading the image

edit

Anyone with a registered account can upload an image to Wikimedia Commons. (Register here, it's easy and respectful to your privacy.)

The preferred format for images is .jpg or .png. If the file has a different format, it should be converted to .jpg or .png using an image editor such as Irfanview or even MSPaint.

To upload the image, visit the Upload Wizard. In some circumstances you may be asked to send in a release via email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. One such circumstance may be when the image is present at another website.

(There is also the path through photosubmission@wikimedia.org, but this is discouraged since it will result in additional processing time. This likely requires a release email, for which the form and further information is available here.)

After an artwork has been uploaded

edit

Add it to the appropriate articles across all languages. If you notice anything language specific that would be of interest for other volunteers, add it to the notes column of the table at the end of this section.

Does the article have an infobox, such as Template:Infobox musical artist?

  • No: Insert [[File:name.jpg|200px|right]] on top of the article, replacing "name.jpg" with the file name.
  • Yes: Search the infobox for the parameter corresponding to "image" according to the following table, or, if not found, add it to the template.

The following table contains all Wikipedias which according to https://stats.wikimedia.org/EN/Sitemap.htm have at least 60,000 views per hour.
