Wikipedia:Deletion policy/Maltese nobility

Description

edit

Sometimes, a group of similar or related articles is nominated for deletion over a short period of time. In cases like this, it seems prudent to have one centralized discussion about the entire group, rather than repeating arguments over each member thereof. This is an attempt to forum consensus on one such groups of articles.

Note that individual members from the group may still be considered notable on other grounds. This discussion is purely to determine whether membership of this group, solely on its own, is merit enough for inclusion in Wikipedia.

User:Tancarville, aka Charles Said-Vassallo has posted a number of articles regarding Maltese nobility. These are based on a website by his creation, maltesenobility.org.

Conclusions from the February 2005 discussion

edit

This discussion has run its course and attracted a number of good reactions from a variety of users. It seems that consensual opinion agrees on the following conclusions:

  1. While Wikipedia is not a genealogy database, genealogy of nobility and royalty is considered encyclopedic.
  2. The term 'original research' refers to new theories proposed in whatever field, not just to a combination of facts found while researching in books. (mentioned here because there was some confusion over the definition of 'original research')
  3. Consensus discussion pages such as this one seem to work in some cases for alleviating the pressure on VfD, by combining similar discussions into a single place.

Specific conclusions

edit
  1. There were issues about the copyright status of the articles of User:Tancarville but these have been cleared up after contacting him. They are now licensed as GFDL, and as such not copyvio.
  2. A small number of Tancarville's pages on Maltese nobility have been VfD'ed; these should be kept rather than deleted.
  3. It is suggested that several of Tancarville's pages be marked for cleanup.
