Nganaoa according to Cook Islands Mythology, travelled with Rata on a large boat. He saw a large octopus emerge from the water and he was able to kill it. A mighty whale attempted to destroy the boat, and Nganaoa accidentally broke his spear. He used the two pieces to stab the whale. He looked inside the whale, and found his parents who were still alive. Nganaoa killed the whale by burning and stabbing it. For the San Diego Union-Tribune article, see the link at CDNC |
