Format

edit

Presented with a group of ten "mystery singers", a guest artist and contestant(s)[a] must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group without ever hearing them sing, assisted by clues and a celebrity panel over the course of five rounds. At the end of a game, the last remaining mystery singer is revealed as either good or bad by means of a duet between them and one of the guest artists.

In the first two or three rounds, two oppposing contestants must eliminate one mystery singer from an assigned group. Afterward, the contestant having of a least one or two bad singer eliminations will proceed to the next round.

The contestant must eliminate one mystery singer at the end of each round, receiving MX$20,000 if they eliminate a bad singer. At the end of a game, the contestant may either end the game and keep the money they had won in previous rounds, or risk it for a chance to win MX$500,000 by correctly guessing whether the last remaining mystery singer is good or bad.

Rounds

edit
  1. Group playback (Spanish: Playback de grupo)
Divided into two groups of five mystery singers, each of them have to perform a lip sync of their own. At the conclusion of performances, the contestant eliminates one mystery singer from each group.
  2. Discover my life (Spanish: Descubre mi vida)
The guest artist and contestant are presented with a video package containing possible clues by one of the mystery singers.
  3. Secret studio (Spanish: Estudio secreto)
The guest artist and contestant are presented with video from a recording session by one of the mystery singers, but pitch-shifted to obscure their actual vocals.
  4. Playback challenge (Spanish: Desafío playback)
A pair of mystery singers perform a lip sync of their own through a showdown to one song each. At the conclusion of the performances, the guest artist and contestant eliminates one performer from each group.
    • Optionally, the contestant may use the Golden Mic once during the game, in which they may hear additional clues and observations from a celebrity guest off-stage.
  5. Interrogation (Spanish: Interrogatorio)
The guest artist and contestant may ask questions to the remaining mystery singers. Good singers are required to give truthful responses, while the bad singers must lie.

Background

Production and development

edit

Following the successful broadcasts of ¿Quién es la máscara?,[16] Televisa formally acquired the rights to produce a local adaptation of I Can See Your Voice in Mexico, having presented from Visión21 upfront in October 2020,[17] as well as CJ ENM's dealing with Fremantle the next month.[18] At the latest upfront in May 2023, Univision would also simulcast the said show,[19][20] following by TeleOnce in July 2023 that was never materialized, because the Liberman Media Group did not have broadcasting rights from TelevisaUnivision.[6][21]

Besides from the main program, a postgame aftershow was also conducted, with Pablo Chagra [es] and Gabriel Coronel serving as co-hosts.[22][23]

Naming

edit

The show's title Veo cómo cantas (English: I see how you sing)[19][20] is adapted to the Mexican counterpart that also comes from a title of the Spanish counterpart itself.[24][25] It was tentatively titled Me late que cantas (English: I feel you sing).[17]

Notes

edit
  1. ^ For the show's gameplay changes, based on playing time of an episode:[7][8][9]
    • The number of mystery singers are set to ten.
      • This lineup was actually used in the Star Wars special (as the first season finale) of original South Korean counterpart.[10][11]
    • Until the 2nd round, the game partially used a "battle format" (adapted from Giọng ải giọng ai)[12][13] due to having two opposing contestants.[14][15]
      • Each contestant has its own podium with mystery singer selections from a respective group (with the 1st podium picks 1 to 5, while the 2nd picks 6 to 10). Since the 3rd round, selections are now merged into a single group.
  2. ^ For the returning guest artists (which also include foreigners or former good singers), names are displayed in italics.
  3. ^ For the mixed groups, names of the bad singers are displayed in italics.
  4. ^ a b c d e f g h Since its first simulcast[26][27] (as Sofía Reyes played in the 3rd episode) on 20 August 2023,[4][28][29] there are some exceptions (i.e. scheduling conflicts with La Casa de Los Famosos México,[5][30] both Mexican and American sides airing different episodes on a same date,[31][32][33] etc.):
    • Ricardo Montaner, Beto Cuevas (of La Ley) and Edén Muñoz played on the American airings as 1st,[6][34] 2nd[35] and 5th[36] episodes (on 6, 13 August and 3 September 2023), and then followed by the Mexican airings as 5th,[37] 6th[38] and 7th[39] episodes (on 24 September, 1 and 8 October 2023).
    • In the celebrity special, Lasso (Venezuela) played on the Mexican airings on 3 September 2023,[40] and then followed by the American airings that ended on 24 September 2023.[41]
  5. ^ a b c These are the list of foreign guest artist(s) having played for the show:
    • Argentina—Ricardo Montaner[42] (USA ep. 1, MEX ep. 5)[d]
    • Chile — Beto Cuevas (of La Ley)[42] (USA ep. 2, MEX ep. 6)[d]
    • Venezuela — Lasso (Celebrity special)[d]
  6. ^ a b c d e f g h These are the list of foreign panelist(s) having assigned for the show:
    • Argentina — Horario Pancheri[61] (1 ep)
    • Chile — Beto Cuevas (of La Ley)[42] (4 eps, celebrity special)
