The Valley Suns are an American professional basketball team of the NBA G League and an affiliate of the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association. Based in Tempe, Arizona and officially created on February 14, 2024, the team will play their home games during the 2024–25 season at Mullett Arena, a former home of the Arizona CoyotesNHL franchise, on the campus of Arizona State University. The logo and name were revealed on May 22, 2024.[2][3][4][5] One of the people introducing the new Valley Suns team was Phoenix Suns CEO Josh Bartelstein, who had previously been an instrumental figure in acquiring Phoenix's former G League affiliate team, the Northern Arizona Suns, from former team owner Robert Sarver and moving that squad to Detroit, Michigan to become to Motor City Cruise.[6] With the Valley Suns being created and ready for action starting on the 2024–25 season, as well as their expansion draft taking place on June 13, 2024,[7] this will mark the first time in league history where every NBA team would have a G League affiliate to go with them, with the only outlier being the Capitanes de Ciudad de México, who are currently not affiliated with any NBA team, but might be affiliated with a future NBA team later on in a future expansion.
