Nuts and bolts edit

The first step would be to work on the nuts and bolts - ie. what is neccessary on this page and what is not. Any ideas.--Zleitzen 15:24, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

My suggestion is to start with the existing article and remove the materal that is actually is about Cuba, and focus instead on Castro.BruceHallman 17:04, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
The two key sections that jump out are the embargo and the foreign relations section. Both these two sections need to be scaled down and presented in direct relation to Castro himself. With a merging of the Castro-USSR relations into one foreign relations section. The rest of the USSR material can be shifted straight to a new Cuba-Soviet relations page. Agreed? --Zleitzen 17:19, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Right, I've moved the USSR section to a new page, Cuban-Soviet relations.--Zleitzen 17:33, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Foreign relations edit

The "Foreign relations" paragraph is a bit awkward. There's no introduction of the Mexican-Cuban relationship for example. I think it's best to start with a general sentence about the friendships and relations Castro has or has had with other countries apart from the Sovjet Union. Altering the structure of the section a bit so that closer friends like Trudeau and Chavez are introduced first and then moving on to the more general information on (Mexico, Latin America, etc.) I will try rewrite the section in the next few days, provided that I find the time for it, of course. :)

Another thing, shouldn't the "Castro and human rights" section be under "Years in power", as it's a part of Castro's politics? menscht 23:30, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

In respect to the foreign relations section - you're right. I believe it needs a general introduction. And some individual instances. The key allies/partners are Khruschev and Chavez. Then his friendships with Traudeau etc. There may be more to add and I'll rack my brains. The political stuff such as Mexico etc should really go in the Foreign relations of Cuba page. I'm moving it over slowly. It may be best to leave the human rights section until a more appropriate time. --Zleitzen 23:41, 17 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Link and piece for future reference edit

Jean-Paul Sartre once wrote: "Castro is at the same time the island, the men, the cattle and the earth. He is the whole island." [1]
