Speedy deletion nomination of From the Outside (disambiguation)

  Resolved
 – Situation fixed by EurekaLott. Pro tip: (disambiguation) isn't always needed. There needs to be a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, in other words one that is much more widely associated with the namesake of the list than anything else on it. If there isn't one, chances are the apparent primary topic article's title will receive a disambiguator instead, and the title of the disambiguation page itself will lack (disambiguation).

Hello Zeke, the Mad Horrorist,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username اِفلاق and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I have tagged an article that you started, From the Outside (disambiguation) for deletion, because it is unnecessary per one of the criteria at WP:G14.

If you feel that the page shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|اِفلاق}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

WPDisambig

Many thanks for adding this for disambiguations created by you. Why not adding WPSongs for songs created by you? --Richhoncho (talk) 22:53, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

@Richhoncho: I'm not sure I understand. Could you please clarify? Zeke, the Mad Horrorist (Speak quickly) (Follow my trail) 23:29, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
When you create an article/direct for a song, why not tag as a wpsongs article. As I have done for the past few days i.e. Talk:Gold in the Air of Summer--Richhoncho (talk) 23:32, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
I was not doing so because to my knowledge it was not necessary. I had seen many redirects that did not have talk pages at all unless they had history of their own (e.g. they were once articles in their own right before they were deemed not sufficiently notable and their content merged into a parent article, but by then behind-the-scenes discussions for the merged topic had taken place on its talk page). If it is necessary or recommended, I'm totally cool with it, and I can do so in future. Have you done this for all the song redirects I've created? If not, I can step in and take care of the rest. Zeke, the Mad Horrorist (Speak quickly) (Follow my trail) 23:44, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
Wouldn't guarantee all, but certainly most. I can get on with other things now, thanks. --Richhoncho (talk) 04:06, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
I've devised a method to take care of the rest. I must have been mistaken before; I was adding things like r from song and such, and I thought that was sufficient for categorizing redirects on the maintenance end of things, but it seems those templates and the WikiProject ones are both necessary because they both do that, but in different places. I'll keep it in mind from now on. Thanks for letting me know. Zeke, the Mad Horrorist (Speak quickly) (Follow my trail) 05:53, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

 – I did not offer any actual input, but I'm noticing lately a deluge of RfCs that seem to be, at best, a premature escalation of an issue. This is one of those times. It's just a matter of sources conflicting with regard to data, and now work must be done to figure out what's what. That's not what RfCs are for. That's just collaborative editing and researching at its finest. I'm sure the system would be better off without these, shall we say, frivolous filings for RfCs. There are plenty of legitimate issues that need addressed with RfCs that could do without requests like these ones clogging the system up.

I Think I Turned My Childhood Friend into a Girl

One sorry for the mess on the page link00XX said what I was trying to say. So, I went through what dan had edited on the site and most of it either had sources that did not prove the point trying to be made, misgendered a person and tried to use a single interview made during an abusive relationship to disprove staments made after the fact or in one case misread the article and added redunt info, others had been undone before. I just wanted to say why I did that.Nbisbo (talk) 03:16, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

@Nbisbo: No worries; I was busy all day and didn't see anything until I saw I had a message and saw you dropped me a line. I think the status quo as of right now is fine. Two sources are sufficient and if they pass muster, they're all we need so we're fine cutting the others. I now consider this matter closed, and I thank you for your help and your civility. I'm glad this didn't escalate; I didn't want to see anyone blocked. I admit when I first pinged you, I was not aware the content had been restored; all I wanted to do was get some discussion going, which I encouraged Don to do as well. I don't have a stake in this, but I felt if there were something to cover we just had to get to the bottom of it, give it its due weight, and not overstate or downplay anything that happened. I think we've achieved that. Zeke, the Mad Horrorist (Speak quickly) (Follow my trail) 05:18, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

 – This is a tricky one. This paradox is not defining for the incidents that could be cited individually in the article; it might be worth more to look at all the times things could have happened but didn't, e.g. all the nuclear reactors that went up, came down, and suffered nothing of particular consequence in between compared to all the ones that have truly melted down.

Film category removal

Your removal of Category:American films from several pages, such as Wicked Stepmother, was incorrect as the films should have been subcategorized (as other people such as Bearcat are doing), rather than removed from the tree entirely. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:15, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Just to affirm that Pippery is correct. You may remove the national film category if the film is already in other "[Same nationality] genre films" subcategories — but if it isn't in any such subcategories, then you must replace the national film category with one or more appropriate genre subcategories and must not just remove the national category without adding any subcategories. Bearcat (talk) 16:25, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

My apologies; I look at it from within the category, so if something shows up, my habit is to think it's already redundant and the film already exists elsewhere in the tree. I will be more careful from now on. Zeke, the Mad Horrorist (Speak quickly) (Follow my trail) 19:17, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

 – Not a good RfC. You don't open one with no fewer than five options that are totally different from each other and expect a consensus to emerge. One certainly does seem to be forming... but it's in conflict with the status quo, itself one of the options available. Status quo, yes or no — that should have been the pitch from the get-go.

Kiwi Farms Transphobia categorization

Hi Zeke,

First of all I understand your revision on Kiwi Farms. I was aware of that part of the category description, but I argue that Kiwi Farms is not allegedly transphobic; this is not some personal scandal where allegations are all that exist, this is a subject whose page includes a section called Harassment, a subsection of which called Suicides of harassment targets contains information about the suicides of three trans and non-binary individuals. Furthermore, the Transphobia category contains some "individuals, groups or media" already, because they are not allegedly transphobic -- they proudly admit to being so. These include the Georgia Green Party page and Ku Klux Klan‎ and Westboro Baptist Church‎ subcategories. Keeping a counter of trans people killed on their website (see below quote from article) jumps far past "alleged transphobic" and into "proudly transphobic". This is also an important change for readers, as it increases the scope of articles related to anti-trans ideologies and practitioners.

"The Kiwi Farms community considers it a goal to drive its targets to suicide, and has celebrated such deaths with a counter on the website."

Let me know your thoughts on these points. If you have a lot to say, I'd be open to moving this conversation to the talk page for Kiwi Farms.

Best, RFZYNSPY talk 07:16, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

I stand by my interpretation of the category description, but at your request will add a few things. As written the article does not support the assertion that those allegedly being harassed are being harassed on the very basis that they are transgender, so for us to do so is WP:OR. These individuals have been said to be transgender, but little if any time has been given to the idea that that is part of or even the whole reason for what they have allegedly experienced from users of the site. I also take issue with the way these categories have been used, as it seems a misappropriation of categorization — I do not understand the application of these categories to groups or individuals demonstrating, allegedly or otherwise, such behavior when it would best be relegated to discrete manifestations of the concept, e.g our coverage of the slur tranny, a manifestation of transphobia. My view is that it should not merely be given to anyone said to be displaying such behavior; to me, it is a violation of how categories work here. I suppose I cannot do anything about it if the category is reinstated by consensus, but I do not have to agree with it either. I could also contest nearly every single point made in the article as is, because having looked into things myself I can say with certainty nearly the entire article is factually incorrect, as is coverage in e.g. the quote you've provided, but I don't intend to dabble in this topic area much further, so I'm not interested in furthering this discussion or contesting the category further. I'm dismayed at the state of things, as for one thing it has me well and truly worried as to the standard for coverage in other topic areas — I'm sad to find that if a reliable source says it, we can and even must use it as gospel, even if it is at odds with empirical observation, for no other reason than a contesting viewpoint has not been raised in a different source also deemed reliable. If true, these allegations are severe, and those so accused do have a right to present their side of the story; we strive for neutral coverage but that is effectively impossible because the sources we have so far are so severely biased toward one side. Meanwhile, I have only attempted a fix to make things a bit more tolerable, no matter how little. But to cap off the rant, I mean no disrespect towards you or anyone else here; we can agree to disagree. I won't attempt to dispute a consensus if one should form either way. Cheers. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Meriwether (band) albums

  No action
 – Guess whatever articles were there got deleted or redirected. Not surprising, really. Funny a category I made almost exactly eight years ago to the day comes back to haunt me now. No objection here, but if only there were some way to see the history of the category itself, e.g. when things went into or were taken out of it. I know that edit history would be recorded on the actual articles or redirects themselves, but it doesn't link back to here so I can't just see it directly. Looks like there were only two or three there originally anyway.

A tag has been placed on Category:Meriwether (band) albums indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Speedy deletion nomination of On Down the Line (disambiguation)

 – Would have been nice if I could at least see why this was not considered necessary. I was asleep the entire time this even went on. I don't even remember what was on this page. "Unnecessary disambiguation page" is not an explanation. This whole behind-the-curtain, keep-it-a-secret process is completely antithetical to the open, democratic way Wikipedia is supposed to work. I'm not going to bother requesting a copy of a deleted page like this; I doubt anyone would give me that. That's annoying that there isn't some minimum e.g. 12-hour window that it remains open for before it can be deleted. If two people with enough power decide they don't like it, it's gone almost immediately. If other Wikipedia processes were this efficient, many of this project's problems would be gone. Do you feel like you accomplished something? Time wasted on this speedy deletion could have been spent elsewhere. Thanks for nothing.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on On Down the Line (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. – robertsky (talk) 07:51, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Zeke, the Mad Horrorist! The deleted page was a redirect to On Down the Line. From my recollection, the edit history behind it was sparse. On Down the Line used to be where the dab page is, but now the album occupies after the closure of the Request move discussion. The dab page now resides as a redirect at the (album) after being pageswapped. – robertsky (talk) 04:11, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi. I disclosed a conflict of interest at F&G and proposed a reworked first couple sentences that would add a correction, reduce redundancy, and add that F&G is public. Another editor already updated the infobox. I was hoping you might be willing to take a look at the requested edits here as an impartial editor pursuant to WP:COI.
