Welcome to Wikipedia, Zeborah! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

Excellent work in rescuing the article! Perhaps it would be useful to contact the early delete voters to see if they are aware of the recent changes in the article and if that changes their opinion. I almost missed the revisions and would have hated if my vote had contributed to the article's deletion
Aside: Do you think the article would be better named Sociolinguistics in India ? That seems to be a broader subject, which can be addressed using the references that you have located. Dangerous Liaisons edit
hello. thanks for the inquiry. marquise and viscount are titles equivalent to count and countess or in some systems, boron and baroness. the use of the definite article is incorrect, and would be akin to saying, The Marquis de Sade, The Count Dracula, or for that matter, The Queen Elizabeth. i suppose i am remiss for not scanning the page for all occurrences, but that was the only one that stood out. --emerson7 12:41, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Vandalism warning edit
The cumulative edit histories at Mongolia during Tang rule and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mongolia during Tang rule are troubling; and I'm especially concerned about the disruptive successes of the one I call "Mr/Ms Anonymous."
As nearly as I can tell, the following vandalism warnings are justified:
I don't expect these warnings to be effective, but the gesture does demonstrate that I'm vexed by what I've encountered in what appears to be the work of just one person.
I share this with you as a way of illustrating by contrast how pleased I was to watch your constructive strategy unfold at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mongolia during Tang rule#Stop and regroup.
An unexpected development? edit
I'm reluctant to put another problem in your lap, but I don't know what else to do? Please bear with me.
What I construe to be a well-meaning editor has changed the name of Mongolia during Tang rule to Inner Asia during the Tang Dynasty ... which throws off the AfD-template in an inconvenient way. The interplay of things wrong with this "move" are too complicated for me to untangle. Are you willing and able to do what is needed? Alternately, will you please pass this problem to someone who can handle it?
My personal interest in this dispute is in ensuring that an informed consensus evolves; and I'm concerned that this new complication may exacerbate something crucial in the fragile process you are trying to shepherd along. --Tenmei (talk) 03:08, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

- I'm sorry for whatever can be construed as my part in the stressful exchanges of the past week. In retrospect, every well-intentioned contribution just made this situation worse because the most relevant factors were not within the ambit of anything written explicitly presented on the screen in front of me.
- I regret the extent to which my contributions exacerbated a problem I was trying to mitigate. No one could have been more surprised than me as I continued producing the opposite of intended results. I'm not unsubtle; but all I can say at this point is that I will continue trying to learn from my mistakes. More than meets the eye edit
As it turns out, the anonymous IP-editor appears to have been a sock puppet of a banned disruptive contributor specializing in fomenting disputes in articles about East Asian topics. Only by "looking outside the box" (on the basis of information not known to you or me at the time) was it possible to diagnose what was happening from the genesis of Mongolia during Tang rule through the serial WP:AfD threads and thereafter. ArbCom case edit
An Arbitration case has been opened, and is located here. As I understand it, the open-ended process invites anyone to participate, not only those who contributed to the thread which led to a case being opened.
I wonder if this forum might be worth your investment of time and attention -- if only because of the possibility that you glimpse some better way of dealing with those who would dismiss, deride, or devalue any future contribution labeling anyone "pro-Mongolian" (as if it were a self-evident and obviously perjorative term). This seems rather like those who have sought to diminish my Wikipedia contributions with a label "Japanese" (as if "Japanese" were to be understood an arguably derisive term).
I would guess you probably understand that my primary focus is elsewhere, but I'm still troubled by that "pro-Mongolian" gambit in the AfD thread. It's not so much that the innuendo was introduced, although I'm very clear that it shouldn't have been tolerated by the consensus. What still bothers me particularly is that this derisive tactic proved to be so easy, so effective, so readily accepted by the so-called "uninvolved" or "neutral" others in that discussion thread. I wish there were some way to leverage this ArbCom "event" so that such needless tactics were less easy or that such heedless claims were accorded closer scrutiny? Just a thought ...?
To be frank, I don't quite understand how this will unfold at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Tang Dynasty.
Formal notice that the case had been accepted included the following, which I construe as being addressed to anyone who has anything to do with this unraveling knot of problems:
- Please add any evidence you may wish the Arbitrators to consider to the evidence sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Tang Dynasty/Evidence.
- Please submit your evidence within one week, if possible.
- You may also contribute to the case on the workshop sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Tang Dynasty/Workshop.
Bottom line: If you can see some way to convert this from a mere academic exercise into something with practical and practicable consequences, please share your thoughts with me or with some member of ArbCom. You aren't obliged to do anything, but, as promised, I'm keeping you informed as developments follow one after another.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
