File:Superpower_map_1945.png - Is the british empire correctly shown? edit

Hey ZaidRock11 I noticed you were the last to edit the map. I was hoping you could clear a doubt some people have:

There's discussion over at File talk:Superpower map 1945.png#Dominions that dates to 2011/2012 that wasn't answered. And recently that controversy appeared over at Talk:Superpower#British Empire in Teal. Does the map accurately show the British empire as of 1945? Is there a good reason not to count dominions as of 1945 as part of the British empire? Cheers! --User:Dwarf Kirlston - talk 03:20, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Dwarf Kirlston, pleasure to meet you. I can directly address that on the first discussion, but I'll give you a brief reasoning. It's not entirely easy to say when the dominions achieved independence/broke from the empire because they achieved it in steps rather than at once like other territories (i.e. India, the African colonies, southeast Asia). I consider them to have become when they adopted the 1931 Statue of Westminster. S. Africa and Canada adopted it that year, and Australia adopted it in 1942. New Zealand did not do that until 1947 which is why I still have it as part of the empire in 1945. I'll add a little more info at the discussion. ZaidRock11 (talk) 22:15, 30 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
