2009 Honduran constitutional crisis‎

I think you need to demonstrate that La Prensa is not a reliable source as this would imply that no sources within Honduras are reliable, evidently rubbish. Thanks, SqueakBox talk 19:35, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Category:Distrito Federal geography stubs

Greetings! A stub template or category which you created has been nominated for renaming or deletion at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type most likely doesn't meet Wikipedia requirements for a stub type, through failure to meet standards relating to the name, scope, current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals! Hi. When you recently edited Sporus, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vestal (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Sporus

Just wanted to express appreciation for all the work you've done on the fascinating Sporus. If you want to do more, I'd like to recommend Craig Williams, Roman Homosexuality[1] (there's a 2nd edition). I'm so glad there's now a link to amplify my passing and probably inaccurate/misleading mentions in other articles. Cynwolfe (talk) 17:02, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

I haven't looked at the long and heavy-duty Nero article, but it seems not to exhibit the fascination for his operatic sex life that attends poor Julius Caesar. You're probably wise not to press the point until you're satisfied with the Sporus article. Sporus did take on a kind of Imperial symbolism that goes beyond any sympathetic or sensational interest his story sparks, and that would merit a sentence, when you can distill it all. In the meantime I'd think a link to Sporus in the Nero#See also section would not be inappropriate. Then again, I can never predict how other WP editors will respond if they feel "their" territory is being encroached upon.
While I have the ear of someone interested in this ... if Sporus was a mere "boy toy," his significance as an Imperial symbol, and even his mere survival under these circumstances, raises questions for me. I get the complexities of gendering here: in some sense, we can't say that Nero had a "same-sex" desire for Sporus, because he tried to turn him into a woman, specifically his former wife. At the same time, how do we know that this was done without any agency or desire on the part of Sporus? How do we know the "castration" wasn't a form of sex reassignment surgery that was compatible with Sporus's own sense of gender identity? When we hear "castration," it sounds brutal and gross, but Celsus describes surgery to reconstruct the foreskin after circumcision, so some surgeons were capable of undertaking rather refined procedures (even eye surgery!). There's a source I encountered and forgot to take note of (because I was looking for something else at the time) that says the Roman fascination for "hermaphroditism" has been misunderstood, that in fact their sexuality wasn't so binary but more of a spectrum. This source must've dealt with Sporus, and if I find it and it seems helpful, I'll leave you a note. Cynwolfe (talk) 18:20, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Administrative Region (Federal District)

Was it necessary to create a new page to describe these regions? This information could have easily gone on the list page, and indeed much of it is already there. If you see value in having two separate pages, I'll let you state your case, otherwise I believe these should be merged. --Lasunncty (talk) 11:46, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Nero

My suggestion is that you write a more forthright statement of what you think needs to be said about Nero and add that to the Nero Talk page. What you have written on the Talk page to date makes no mention of marriage, much less same-sex marriage, sex, sexual activity, sexual orientation, or LGBT anything. It's as if you were trying not to get anyone's attention. Maybe you were just being far too discreet, so no one noticed you had anything serious to offer. I'd suggest factual statements along these lines (with citations):

Nero's marriages to men:

  • In a public ceremony Nero married a freedman, Pythagoras, who played the role of the Nero's husband. (citation)
  • In 66 or 67, Nero married married Sporus, who appeared in public as Nero's wife wearing the regalia that was customary for Roman empresses. (citation)

I'm sure you already know and can use this (from Sexuality_in_ancient_Rome#cite_ref-236: Suetonius reports that the emperor Nero had two marriages to men, once taking the role of the bride, and once the groom. See Williams, Roman Homosexuality, p. 28; Karen K. Hersh, The Roman Wedding: Ritual and Meaning in Antiquity (Cambridge University Press, 2010), p. 36; Caroline Vout, Power and Eroticism in Imperial Rome (Cambridge University Press, 2007), pp. 151ff.

Then ask not if this material should be included in the Nero entry, but where it should go.

Once added, you might generate some reaction if you try to characterize/label Nero in some LGBT way, but I dare say lots of people have opinions about how to write about same-sex behavior/attraction in the ancient world. Only then will you have a good reason to add any LGBT categories.

I'd add -- and I am an amateur when it comes to Roman history but a fairly experienced wikipedia editor -- the entire section "Origins of the name" in the Sporus entry seems to be undocumented & original research.

I'll make some other edits...just trying to be helpful. Not terribly interested in this subject, but using LGBT categories with care is important. Cheers. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 15:48, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
