Speedy deletion nomination of Capital Soirée

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Capital Soirée requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. I moved your article back to your sandbox. As Calton pointed out, the article doesn't have a "credible claim of notability". Please improve your article to make sure that it meets these criteria. Thanks. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:26, 21 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi Zachrom. Look at the link in my previous message about "credible claims of notability". Try to address them. In case it wasn't clear, your article still exists, it's just in your sandbox: User talk:Zachrom/sandbox. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:53, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your assistance. After reviewing the guidelines for establishing credible claims of notability, I have decided to scrap my previous article about Capital Soirée for the time being and pursue other topics. Specifically, I have another Chicago band in mind, 'The Walters', that is significantly more prominent than my previous attempt and for which I have found many more sources that I believe count as legitimate. Of course, I will probably seek your guidance in writing that article, so thank you in advance. --Zachrom (talk) 21:32, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of The Walters

edit

The article The Walters has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Three-year-old unsigned rock band from Chicago. All the puffery on Earth doesn't make this group notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. With the upmost respect, I disagree most emphatically. While they may be an unsigned band, my understanding of the guidelines for music notability suggest that the fact the Walters have "received non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country" makes them notable. I posit that we should move away from some of the conventional methods of determining an artist's notability, such as putting so much weight on being signed to a recording label. In the modern musical climate, it is quite possible to achieve notability without one. Perhaps more consideration should be put into the fact that the band has charted on Spotify's "United States Viral Top 50", a list that regularly features artist who are unquestionably deserved of Wikipedia entries. As music is often consumed through streaming services such as Spotify (statistics compiled by Nielsen suggest 317 billion songs were streamed in 2015), the significance of this feat should not be overlooked. I would also like to strongly reject the assertion that the article is filled with "puffery", and while I revere your dedication to Wikipedia and I appreciate your criticism, I intend to remove the deletion tag. As I have taken steps to meet the guidelines for notability, I feel a consensus should be reached if this article is to be deleted. Thanks --Zachrom (talk) 02:38, 28 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
