Hello Yuen919.

I am your course online ambassador. This means that I will try to assist you to get your article into Wikipedia, using the style and techniques required here. I am a volunteer working from Australia, so my timezone overlaps with yours quite a bit. You are welcome to ask me questions on my talk page or to use email on this screen: Special:EmailUser/Graeme_Bartlett.

I am looking forward to your new article and your improvements to Wikipedia. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:15, 21 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Copying edit

I noticed that your last section "Distinctions between the Singtali and Subathu formations" of User:Yuen919/sandbox was directly copied from the reference you used. I can see it at http://sp.lyellcollection.org/content/74/1/541.abstract. Everything that you put on Wikipedia has to be something that you own the intellectual property to, and not someone else's work. If you are actually the author of that paper "Early stages of foreland basin evolution in the Lesser Himalaya, N India" there would need to be some proof of that. I would suggest that you write this again in your own words, (and also any other bits that were copied and pasted. One technique you can use, is to read the paper. Then think about it for an hour, and then write your content without looking at the paper. Afterwards you can go back and check the spelling of the names of formations etc. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 02:47, 13 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

More copying edit

Hi

I now notice that you have copied an image File:Location and sketch geological map of part of the Garhwal Synform, Ganga Valley, Uttar Pradesh.png from http://www.palaeontologicalsociety.in/vol28/v13.pdf. The web site you claim permission is granted says "© 2015 All rights reserved". In case you are not aware, copying images off the world wide web or other academic papers is actually illegal, unless explicit permission is granted in writing. I know it is a lot of work to make a map, but sometimes you have to do it if you want a freely licensed map. I will give you a chance to respond before deleting. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:11, 19 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your kind reminder Graeme Bartlett! I did not notice that the website states "All rights reserved". I will delete this picture and make another map by my own work. Thanks!

Other images edit

Hello again. For the images you actually drew yourself, can I suggest that you use .png or .svg format and not .jpg. The reason is that you have compression artifacts around the text. JPEG is good for photos but not good for diagrams. The vector forms .svg are the best as they can be scaled and reused more simply. Hopefully you still have your images in a high quality form somewhere. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:28, 19 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reminder Graeme Bartlett! I will try to replace the image with .png or .svg format!

Name of your page edit

Hi Yuen919.

Can I suggest a name change for the page you wrote. Currently it is called "Palaeozoic-Mesozoic Lesser Himalayan Strata". However doing a google scholar search shows that no one else has ever used this name. The straight out Google search comes up with your page and other things related to your course. So I suggest that we rename it to "Lesser Himalayan Strata". You already write a bit about the Precambrian history, so it is a bit broader in coverage than your name suggests. It's OK if it is a bit incomplete on some pars of the geologic history. What do you think? Do you agree that I change the name? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:04, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your suggestion! I think it's good too:)! What do you think if we add a bracket, like "Lesser Himalayan Strata (Paleozoic - Mesozoic)"? If it is still not good for Google search, then we change it to "Lesser Himalayan Strata". Could you please help me change for it? Thanks!! Graeme Bartlett

I have moved the page, but left the old name, and your other suggested name as a redirect. Also I made more redirects for Tal Formation, Gondwana Strata, Singtali Formation and Subathu Formation, so that these can be easily linked from other articles.

I am also looking for one line exciting statements about the Lesser Himalayan Strata to lure people into reading the page you wrote. I am looking forward to any suggestions. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:39, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Lesser Himalayan Strata edit

On 6 January 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lesser Himalayan Strata, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that rocks from the Lesser Himalayan Strata show that the northern part of the Indian plate submerged in the late Cretaceous period? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lesser Himalayan Strata. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Lesser Himalayan Strata), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
