Caravanim

In the English speaking world a Caravan is a travel trailer. When I was in Israel last, 2009-2010, my colleague referred to them as Caravanim. Calling what is essentially a mobile home a travel trailer is confusing. I sought to clear that up.--Degen Earthfast (talk) 19:21, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

• Calling what is essentially a mobile home a travel trailer is confusing...and no one in the English speaking world (whose wiki this is) would make that mistake. We use the German term plattenbau to describe cement buildings built primarily in Eastern Europe for the same reasons. If Israelis call them Caravanim then we whould use that term to clarify that is is not a travel trailer. (sidebar:Even those some larger bespoke travel trailers may approach smaller mobile homes in size anyone would instantly know the difference. Peace. Murder of Leiby Kletzky

I only changed the quote mark style incidental to other changes, since curved quotes are better typographically. You will notice that Wikipedia provides curved quotes for your use in the row of click-on special characters below the edit box. Hgrosser (talk) 01:48, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

If you look at any “real” printed book, or a real newspaper, you will see that they use curved quotes and apostrophes exclusively. (Except for the program listings in a computer book!) Straight quotes on a computer keyboard are a compromise, because of lack of space and ASCII codes, inherited from typewriter keyboards. Of course, on Wikipedia, article titles use straight apostrophes so people can type them. Hgrosser (talk) 14:18, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Well, no, that’s an impossible task. But whenever I edit a section of an article for some other reason, I’ll usually change the quote marks in that section, and sometimes not, because I forget, and it really isn’t that significant compared to whatever edit I was doing in the first place. Question about DYK rules

Dear Yoninah, I just reviewed the DYK nomination for Sabre Dance--DYK nomination for Sabre Dance--and didn't think it was qualified based on the date the 5x expansion began. I turned down the nomination based on that fact, but asked that a more experienced reviewer double-check that I was correctly understanding the rules. Sulitza/Solitza

I'm a little obsessed with the correct spelling of shtetl names.) Why do you consistently change "Sulitza" to "Solitza" (Sulitz (Hasidic dynasty), Shotz (Hasidic dynasty))? The traditional Yiddish and Hebrew spelling is סוליצא, and the town name in Romanian (Sulița) also has u not o. [Perhaps you were misled by the alternate Yiddish spelling, סאָליצא? This spelling is analogous to the occasional spelling of "בלום" as "בלאָם" in Poland and the surrounding areas.] Ratzd'mishukribo (talk) 21:57, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

How do I get an acceptable picture

The Rijksmuseum museum had a piece of petrified wood from the Drees estate that was mistaken as a "moon rock" and looked like this. <--- How could I use this picture in the Netherlands lunar sample displays article?
