It looks like I left an ambiguous edit summary - when I said "remove gallery and link to commons cat" I meant I was removing the gallery and adding a link to the commons category. Cylinder of Nabonidus move

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Cylinder of Nabonidus a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. Copying

Generally you shouldnt copypaste text between articles the way you copied some of the text I wrote for the Champollion article to the one on Young - it creates potential copyright and plagiarism problems. Please see WP:Copying within Wikipedia.·maunus · snunɐɯ· 04:26, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Actually there is copyright on wikitext, but it simply requires attribution to the user who originally wrote it, and that is what is missing when you copy text from one article to another without noting in the edit summary that you copied it. Well, it's kinda hard to give credit to someone you don't know. Wiki articles are by definition anonymous, so when I copy from one Wiki article to another one (as is sometimes appropriate), most of the time I have no idea who wrote that particular passage that I’m copying.

As far as Young article is concerned, I just performed some basic rescue on it. Clearly, nobody has updated that info since 1908! (Old Britannica article) :)

It's amazing how that whole thing was politicized back then... It's all about “We the British did it best - anyhow!”. Sounded really like stone-age sort of politics... a trip into the past... :)

Improving Champollion article is kind of hard, because it's already pretty good. But lots of related articles are really messy. I just did another rescue attempt on Writing in Ancient Egypt – that was pretty bad! Cheers, Y-barton (talk) 01:51, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Thank you, Coralapus, and I agree with what you wrote. Good to know it's a minority view! :) So it's all the more surprising that Lönnqvist's problematic material was sitting there already for years, before I got to it!

I did some digging in article history to see that this matter was actively promoted back in 2011. For example, here (26 April 2011). Thus, some of this new material that you offer now already was in the article. Then it was removed. So there were some disputes going on back then.

When citing a 20 page article, you need to give a page number(s). It is much better if you also don't repeat the whole citation (minus the useful bit) every time. Questionable additions to Kothar-wa-Khasis

As far as I am aware, the view that Ilish was not a carpenter deity is the consensus today, and it has been this way at least since the 2000s. Your only source on the contrary is a book from 1992 (2022 is the date of a reprint's publication only...), written by someone who is not an expert on Ugarit - hardly "modern" and hardly "experts" (plural). Additionally, no Ugaritic text portrays Kotharat as "attendants" (let alone wives!) of Kothar; Dennis Pardee outright stressed in multiple publications (ex. here) as early as in the 1990s there's no relation other than cognate names between the deities. I really recommend starting the study of Ugarit with authorities in the field, not with random classicists. HaniwaEnthusiast (talk) 16:38, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for your concerns. I may only add in my defense that the fact that the book is reprinted again in 2022 should indicate that it’s still popular among scholars. I will address these matters further on the article talk page soon. Ugarit is my old favorite from many years ago.
