Japanese Brazilians

You have uploaded an image on Liberdade district in Sao Paulo on Japanese Brazilians, but sadly, it was deleted as there was no licence. If you could, could you please re-upload that image, but only with a GFDL, PD or Creative commons licence if you upload it, and declare where you get the image from, whether it was taken by you or from elsewhere. Using wrong copyright licences and not providing sources on images would result in deletion, which is really, really sad. I hope you could re-upload the image under my personal appeal, satisfying these mandatory conditions set by wikipedia. Cheers! Mr Tan 16:16, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Fair Use for magazine covers

Please, Xuxo, this is the second time you are rude torwards me. I have no interest in being your adversary. I want to colaborate with you, just like with any other wikipedian, to make this a great free encyclopedy.

Removing images we don't have the rigth to use, or that are improperly used is part of the job of improving Wikipedia. Magazine covers, as explained in the text shown in the {{Magazine cover}} template itself, can only be used to illustrate the publication of the issue of the magazine in question (see the 1st bullet there). This means, among other things, that magazine covers can't be used to illustrate the person portrayed on them.

Magazine covers are not Fair Use per se. Actually, nothing is fair use per se. Fair use, as the name says, deals with the use of the image (or text, or any work). Using a copyrighted magazine cover to talk about a magazine is a fair use. Using a copyrighted movie poster (or scene) to talk about the movie is a fair use. Using a magazine copyrighted cover as a replacement for a picture we don't have (of some celebrity, or whatever) is not a fair use.

I share your sentiments that it would be really great if magazine covers could be used anywere we wish, for anything. But unfortunatelly it's not true.

About the article you cited, I would say that the use of a magazine cover in Halle Berry is hardly justifiable (thanks for poiting out!). The Shakira and Jennifer Lopez uses of album covers may be arguably justified as illustration of their works (just like the Xuxa article has an album cover illustrating the discography section).

I don't have others Wikipedia usernames and I never intentionally edit articles anonymously.

I never studied law, it's true. As a matter of fact, all I know about Fair use I learned from Wikipedia's article on Fair use.

Don't be shy to return your toughts to me. I'm completly open to talks envisioning the improvement of Wikipedia, but I may refuse to talk when people are overly discourteous to me.

TV Screenshot for Sabrina Sato

Hello again, Xuxo. I noticed you have uploaded a screenshot of a tv program and used it to illustrate the article about the person depicted on the screenshot. I'm afraid this is no better than misusing magazine covers for that. As the {{tv-screenshot}} template itself says, such images can only be used for identification and critical commentary on the station ID or program and its contents. That is to say, that image could be used to illustrate an article about the TV programa in question (Panico na Tv) or about the sation broadcasting that program. But no to illustrate the article about Sabrina Sato.

Please, don't feel again like you're being huntted. I do that because I believe you do have the necessary sensitiveness and willingness for understanding the Fair use concept and how it can be properly used to improve our great encyclopedia. Best regards, --Abu Badali 14:18, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Stop hunting me, please

Why are you erasing the pictures I have posted here??

You have no right to do it! The Ana Claudia Michels's picture is a MAGAZINE COVER. Since then, I can use it in Wikipedia. You've been saying that it does not have fair use to illustrate a celebrity's article. YOU ARE THE ONLY USER who sais this lie in Wikipedia, because every celebrity's article in Wikipedia does have a magazine cover to illustrate it. But, I've noticed that you just erase MY POSTS, while there are thousands of articles with magazine covers, and you did not erase them. Why don't you go to Kate Moss article and erase the magazine covers? And that about Naomi Campbell??? And how about Heidi Klum. What do you say about Claudia Schiffer and Yamila Diaz. Why don't you go there and erase them and hunt their posters too? Answer me that!

And it is not only me, because in the Ana Claudia Michels article, I posted the magazine cover, then you came and erased the image. Then another use came and re-posted the image, arguing that is was a magazine cover used to illustrate the article and it HAS FAIR USE.

Saying again, you have no right to erase magazine covers image here, because they are not fobidden in Wikipedia. Don't you have other things to do in your life?? Do you work for those magazines??

Only one person could come here a erase a magazine cover: THE OWNER OF THE MAGAZINE. Since you are the owner, I do not know what you get with it.

You do have problems. I have explained you the magazine covers affair more than once. Wheneve a third party was necessary to resolv the dispute, the decisiona was to remove the image. I don't think I can help you anymore. Have you really read Template_talk:Magazinecover? What about WP:Fair use? What really disapoints me is the fact that I do believe you have read them all. Afro-Brazilian: citation needed

Hi, Xuxo. :-) I see that you put the "citation needed" tag on Afro-Brazilian.

The page Afro-brasileiro on pt.wikipedia ( http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afro-brasileiro ) says, "Segundo o IBGE, os negros e pardos representam 45% da população brasileira, ou seja, sessenta milhões de brasileiros. A maior concentração de afro-brasileiros dá-se no estado da Bahia, onde 80% da população é de ascendência africana." Michel Temer's ethnocultural's background

Temer is not "a Maronite". . . I don't speak Portuguese so I haven't corrected this mistake in the corresponding Brazilian wiki page. As for "sources, well they're mostly in French and Arabic & I have read them. Pls. note that there is absolutely no ambiguity here as Btaaboura, the small village where Temer's parents BOTH came from is 100% Byzantine Greek-Orthodox - unlike some other Lebanese towns with mixed populations belonging to different communities. SEE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Btaaboura The confusion from the part of some Brazilian journalists stems from two unrelated facts:

1) Temer and his brothers converted to Roman Catholicism = mainstream Latin American Catholicism

2) Most BUT NOT ALL Brazilian-Lebanese are of Lebanese Maronite-Catholic descent. BUT that's not the case of the Temer family

Hello, I need assistance

I can see "Pob3qu3" has been borderline vandalizing many pages regarding Mexico and especially inflating the amount of Mexicans being "White." He then tried accusing my objection to this of me being a "sockpuppet" simply because I (and many others) disagree with his obviously ridiculous additions to the page. I don’t agree with that sentiment either of 49%, I understand it’s important to add ranges to Wikipedia articles but White Mexicans are closer to making up only from 1/5-1/3 of the Mexican population. The majority of Mexicans are mestizo. PedroDonasco (talk) 22:37, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

I am in general concurrence with you. I would probably make the range between 10-15% on the lower end and around 30% on the higher end of the estimate at the most. The sources that are provided literally only have 1/10 Mexicans self-identifying their skin tone as "blanco." While many other Mexicans identify as "light-skin" that is not equivalent to identifying as "White" (which a minority of Mexicans do). Many people of different ethnicities and cultures identify as having lighter skin while also specifically not identifying as "White." Analyticalreview (talk) 23:14, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

I have seen reports of light skin Mexicans getting over 70% native ancestry on tests, and as stated literally within Ethnic groups in Latin America page, light skin for Mexican mestizos comes mostly from native genetics rather than European genetics. As stated here “However, genetic evidence published in 2019 has challenged this presumption. A genome-wide association study of 6000 Latin Americans from Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Chile and Peru found that the strongest correlation for light skin color in these populations was actually an amino acid variant of the MFSD12 gene; which is absent in Europeans, but very common in East Asians and Native Americans”. I even tried to get rid of the 49% white for the demographics of Mexico page but I had edits constantly reverted, also I would like to apologize for my involvement within the sock puppet case, I have had to deal with many sock puppets before and the evidence did look a little bit convincing, I usually take a neutral stance on Wikipedia but Pob3qu3 does seem to be heavily biased with his edits, especially on pages relating to white Mexicans. Yes. I have friends that are Indigenous Mexicans (from pueblos that still speak the languages) and their skin colors range drastically. So, he sent me some sources and the last one blatantly contradicts what he is saying. It has a link to another article which states:
