Why doesn't the image qualify under public domain since it owned by a government-operated and -financed entity?
- I know it's been years, but I'll answer. It's because the feds release their things into the public domain, but state, county, city, school district, etc. governments do not necessarily do that. If you get an image not from the feds you need to check for the licensing. WhisperToMe (talk) 12:12, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
I should welcome an explanation as to how you created this image, please? TerriersFan (talk) 15:06, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Reserve players' transfers
editTo answer your question from the Madrid page, unless there was link annoucing a reserve player's promotion to the first team, their transfer should not be listed with the first team's. At present, only Adán is deemed likely to be promoted (only because of his inclusion in Madrid's Champions League roster and Dudek's late re-signing). By the weekend, I should have updated the reserve team pages. Raul17 (talk) 14:45, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

RE: Real Madrid v Mallorca formation
editThe coach only has to name the starters & subs and designate the GKs and captain on the game sheet: Game 1. The starting formation from television is just a guess; but like you said, they can flow from one to another during the game. The Madrid site normally would show their formation:team line-up. A darken line would show the formation to be used; a 4-2-3-1 would have a darken line under Casillas, Marcelo, Xabi Alonso & Di María. However, if you look carefully, you will notice that the players listed above the line-up, there is a separation (;) after Casillas, Marcelo & Di María that would indicate that Madrid will play with 4 defenders and a lone forward. In a 4-3-3, that separation would occur after Cristiano Ronaldo. Madrid, like the national team and most Spanish clubs, traditional play in a 4-2-3-1 line-up.
In the link, it looked like that Di María, Canales, Cristiano Ronaldo & Higuaín were attacking while Xabi Alonso & Lass were up "high" (to borrow from ice hockey). I am not complaining, but I was just wondering where the formation info was coming from when the Madrid site did not post its formation and the major newspapers were listing a 4-2-3-1. Thanks for the link to review that match because I did not get to see any highlights. Now I have to wonder why the critics panned Madrid's play as listless when they looked to have several opportunities and chances to score!! Raul17 (talk) 00:28, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Pepe goal count
editHi there XBOX, VASCO from Portugal here,
about the goal total in this footballer's article, you are correct, i am sorry, i did not remember that thing against Real Sociedad. If the league has given that goal to Pepe and not Cristiano Ronaldo, then it's 2 not 1, sorry for my actions.

Pre-season matches
editPre-season matches always go above official competitions in some way, shape, or form for chronologically reasons; importance has nothing to do with it. Examples include this (a good article), this, this, this, this, this, this, this, among others. And this extends beyond soccer. Take a look at these samples from American football, basketball, and hockey. Digirami (talk) 19:38, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

editHello my friend, how are you

Referee
editThe referee for the Real Madrid v Guangzhou match 廖國文 is from Hong Kong, so in Romanization we must use Cantonese Pinyin (Liu Kwok Man), not Pinyin (Liao Guowen). -Alexchen4836 (talk) 00:36, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Players names
editDisplaying what's on the back of a jersey creates weird circumstances. I'm sure that guideline was in place when players only put their last name on the back of the jersey. However, some players do not. It's better to list Javier Hernández by his name instead of by Chicharito (the name on the back of the jersey), or Christian Benítez as Chucho (the name on the back of his shirt). Additionally, it is standard practice across club season articles to have the players listed by their first and last names (with few exceptions, mainly Brazilians). Digirami (talk) 21:07, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Transfers in/out
editWell, considering that In and Out are sub-sections of Transfers, In and Out can only mean one thing: Transfers In and Transfers Out. Digirami (talk) 16:17, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, its very specific. That's why you're using it. Even is a player retired, it's a transfer out and it uses the same template that are already in use in the article. If you want a more ambiguous term, transfers is not the word to use. Digirami (talk) 16:24, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- But as sub-sections of Transfers, In and Out are specifically about transfers. So, it's not ambiguous in any way, or in a way you think it is. Now, if you want to make it more ambiguous, don't use the word transfers. Replace it with Players and make the sections Players In and Players Out. Use the template to clarify the type of movement the player is making (loan, retirement, transfer, whatever). Digirami (talk) 16:38, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

2012–13 Real Madrid C.F. season and MOS:FLAGICON
editPlease stop trying to use other articles and opinion in place for the guideline. If you can argue specifically from the guideline at WP:MOSFLAG, then do it. If you would like me to remove the flags from another page, I'll do it, but you have to give more than a three letter acronym for me to find it in order to determine if it's following the guideline or not. The appropriate use is "where the subject actually represents that country, government, or nationality – such as military units, government officials, or 'national sports teams" (emphasis mine). In short, that mean the Spanish national team or the Champions League where the clubs are representing their nations. When it's a friendly, they're not representing their nations and the flags should not be used. I'd be glad to discuss this with you here (please use the {{talkback}} template on my page to do so, or if you would prefer, on the article's talk page. If you don't communicate, and simply revert again, I will bring it up at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football and let the project decide. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:51, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- I think I now know that UCL means UEFA Champions League. If that's the case, I specifically mention that above. The clubs participating in the Champions League have earned the right to be there by placing at the top of their respective national leagues. That means they they are representing them at that level. A friendly is not the same. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:57, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- Just snowball it up at WP:FOOTY since this affects every club season page. MOSFLAG does not imply or explicitly state that if the subject does not represent the country, flag use is inappropriate, which appears to be your logic. The spirit of MOSFLAG is to prevent undue weight regarding nationality away from the subject from using flags, which often leads to non-NPOV. Usage of flags here certainly doesn't violate NPOV. Also, teams in the Champions League represent their domestic leagues (an argument can be made that they don't), which are independent from their "country, government, or nationality." Bobby (talk) 06:35, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- It does apply to them. Taking it to footy. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:46, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- And what are you talking about POV? --Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:50, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- One last thing, you're well past WP3RR so be careful. You're also wrong on how teams arrived at the CL. They do so by WINNING THEIR NATIONAL LEAGUES. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:53, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- WP:MOSFLAG#Inappropriate use. I'm trying to point out the connection between a domestic league to its resident country is just as arbitrary as a club to its resident country. Bobby (talk) 06:56, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- The list of inappropriate use is not limited to that one. You'll notice it doesn't list infoboxes there. There are many other inappropriate uses of flags. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:59, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- So if Swansea qualify for the Champions League they'll get an England flag next to their name will they?Bladeboy1889 (talk) 08:49, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
- If they got there by winning in the Premier League they would, yes. There are teams that play in the French league that are not French, but would represent them in CL play.
- On the other hand, take Toronto FC. They play in the American-sanctioned MLS. They, and the other two Canadian teams are barred from representing the US if they win either the league (known as the Supporters Sheild) or the play-offs (they don't have a European form of league). They can only represent Canada and that is done with a tournament much like the F.A. Cup. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:40, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

The Bronx
editAs lifetime resident of The Bronx, I know that it is not a city (it is much more: it is also a county which contains cities). I also work for the Post office and the legal destination is Bronx, NY not New York City just as Brooklyn and Staten Island are used as a city. Even the WP entry for Yankee Stadium uses Bronx, New York instead of New York City. I guess you can say that the Five Boroughs of New York City are like the four nations that make up the United Kingdom. When mostly when one refers to New York City or NYC, it is assumed one is talking about Manhattan. Raul17 (talk) 02:43, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- The Bronx is a sub-division or district of its city, much in the same regard Vallecas is to Madrid. The borough wiki article clarifies ...in some cities it is a subdivision of the city (for example, London, New York City, Montreal, and Tokyo). In such cases, the borough will normally have either limited powers delegated to it by the city's local government, or no powers at all. I think the Bronx's lack of independent jurisdiction makes New York City the conventional option to list. Perhaps putting either "The Bronx" or "New York City" as the friendly location constitutes correct usage, but "New York City" (although less specific) would be much more understandable for readers, particularly non-US ones. Also note in the 2012 New York Yankees season, the tenants of Yankee Stadium, it lists their home location as New York City instead of the Bronx. Bobby (talk) 03:46, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- If you ask readers what they think when one says New York City, 9 out of 10 will think of aspects of Manhattan: sky-scrapers, the World Trade Towers, Empire State building, etc. But ask about the Bronx: either the New York Yankees or Yankee Stadium will come to mind (well, the more positive thoughts) to most. Raul17 (talk) 00:58, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
- Perhaps you're correct. However common practice in these templates is to list the city and not the borough. A good example is Arsenal F.C.. Their home matches are listed in London and not the London borough of Islington, where Emirates Stadium is located. Bobby (talk) 01:38, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Pedro León
editShould not Pedro León be listed as a loan deal again unless the original loan was a two-year loan? Raul17 (talk) 05:09, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- His loan deal was originally one year, but was extended for a second year before the start of the transfer window, so technically he never moved back to Real Madrid this season. Bobby (talk) 05:11, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- Also did you go to the game tonight?
- Yes! Had a great time!! A little worried about Madrid's defense; Milan confused Pepe & Lass that led to Robson's goal. The pitch is much better than at Giants Stadium (I have not been at the "New Meadowlands Stadium" yet.) Raul17 (talk) 01:55, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
- I blame the first goal on Nacho for losing track of Nocerino, allowing him too much space to receive the pass and then provide the assist. Nocerino was able to flick the ball over him because he was stuck in no man's land. No need to worry about the first team's defense in my opinion. Milan also played an absolutely terrible game with no rhythm or flow whatsoever for the entire match (and for having De Sciglio mark Ronaldo in the second half haha). Maybe they'll be a different team when Pato returns. But as a Madrid fan what a great match to attend and glad to hear you had an excellent time! Bobby (talk) 03:25, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Question about File:Noviaerial.jpg
editHi! Do you have a higher resolution version of File:Noviaerial.jpg? Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 07:43, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
Casemiro was from the youth system? If that's how you are listed him then Eto'o should be considered as from the youth system as well! Both Castilla and Madrid C are both considered senior squads since the reserve teams play in the national leagues and most of their players are nineteen years and older. If he had played for one of the Juvenil teams like Rodrigo had, I could understand, but this not the case. Raul17 (talk) 20:18, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- Although both Castilla and RMC play in professional leagues, both also unambiguously qualify as being a part of Real Madrid's youth system. Some players may have played for multiple youth sides, such as Arbeloa or Diego López (neither played for Juvenil teams), but are listed as originally from the youth system as well without any contention. Since there isn't a specific set of criteria that qualifies a player to be "originally from the youth system," I'd prefer to simplify the issue by listing any player that has played for Real Madrid Castilla, C, Juvenil, Benjamin, etc. Adding Casemiro to that group isn't inherently a factual error in my opinion. Bobby (talk) 22:16, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- I did not know you had responded, but Arbeloa didspend a year with the Juvenil team in 2001-02. I am one of those who thinks that the reserve teams are part of the system but not the youth system (Then I can criticise barça fans of always adding Charlie as a homegrown player! Jesé's number
editJesé wasn't scheduled to even play against Los Angeles (he wasn't one of the 19 players named). Also, the match against PSG had Mateos with #28 and Jesús with #31!! Raul17 (talk) 17:37, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- I believe RealMadrid.com's report for the PSG match was a typo. Here's a video of the PSG match [3], showing Mateos wearing #31 and Jesús wearing #35, consistent with the other games so far. As for Jesé, this match report is the only source Real Madrid published with Jesé's number that I'm aware of. Bobby (talk) 18:43, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

editHello, I'm Mattythewhite. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Template:Real Madrid C.F. squad, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:46, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

editIn relation to an edit of mine that you reverted, I was trying to create consistency. The World football transfer record and 2013–14 Tottenham Hotspur F.C. season pages both quote to 100 million euro figure. The 2013–14 Real Madrid C.F. season page is the only one that doesn't. KP-TheSpectre (talk) 21:39, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- The English and Spanish media may exhibit bias over this fee due to the potential world record. Every English source insists the fee exceeded €94M while every Spanish source (even El Mundo hah) reported it didn't. English Wikipedia, as a result, may produce a systemic bias due to the number of football editors residing in the UK. Notice that recent editors to the transfer record page are all from the UK or have IPs in the UK and thus would likely cite the English source. Furthermore, non-English/Spanish sources, such as ESPN for example, are murkier in the details, phrasing the fee as believed to be €100M. In an attempt to maintain NPOV and until further announcements, I just cited transfermarkt.com, which reliably specializes in player valuations and fees. Bobby (talk) 21:56, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- Edit: transfermarkt.com updated the fee to €100M. Bobby (talk) 21:59, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- Edit 2: back to 91. This may take a few days for the fee to settle. Bobby (talk) 08:05, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

2013–14 Real Madrid C.F. season
editPlease see the article talk page, as well as numerous discussions at WT:FOOTY, as to why you are, quite simply, wrong. GiantSnowman 19:05, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- The Starting 11 section would simply be a synthesis" - stop right there, you've hit the nail on the head. What it boils down to is the fact that footballing positions on the pitch are not fixed, and so these kind of visual representations never work. GiantSnowman 19:16, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- This strictly refers to the starting formation though; the evolution of player movement throughout a match is irrelevant and not reflected here. The purposed of WP:SYNTH is to prevent using synthesis to convey a non-neutral position, which isn't the case for a starting 11 section when it is statistics-based. Bobby (talk) 19:21, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
- We might as well keep the discussion in one place, my talk page is best as Lukeno has commented there. GiantSnowman 19:53, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at 2013–14 Real Madrid C.F. season shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. GiantSnowman 09:43, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
Hi Xboxandhalo2! Could you please keep updating "Squad statistics" section? I really apreciate your work. Thanks! --Ebalao (talk) 17:00, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Live scoring
editHi.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a livescoring website. Per WP:LIVESCORES we should not have livescoring and I see you have added that to 2013–14 Real Madrid C.F. season. This subject has also been discussed at WT:FOOTY here. Please stop adding livescores and join the discussion on WT:FOOTY or your edists will be considered disruptive. Thank you! QED237 (talk) 18:18, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2013_September_8#Template:Match_in_progress resulted in no consensus. WP:SNOOKER's MOS independent to Real Madrid. Bobby (talk) 18:40, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- Yes and the reasons for that is not because livescores are allowed, but for te fact that the template is used for activities spanning several days and so on. The WT:FOOTY consensus and WP:LIVESCORES are still valid and I would suggest you stop making this edit. Just because there is a template does not make it right to add livescore. QED237 (talk) 19:02, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
- The 'no consensus' at the TFD is irrelevant; most of those who !voted keep even said live scoring was bad, but the template was necessary as damage limitation. As Qed says there is consensus at WP:LIVESCORES and WT:FOOTY regarding this - your editing on this article is becoming increasingly disruptive. You do not WP:OWN this article, or anything else Real Madrid-related. Please understand that, before further action is taken. GiantSnowman 20:13, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Pepe 4th captain
editMarca ran an article back in July that said Pepe would be a captain if Higuain was sold. Bobby (talk) 00:24, 18 October 2013 (UTC)
- Good! That's the reference you should have for Pepe. The other reference does not include him. Thanks! Raul17 (talk) 15:23, 18 October 2013 (UTC)
Photo requests
editAre you still in the State of Michigan? Do you do photo requests? WhisperToMe (talk) 06:22, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
- What would you like a photo of? Bobby (talk) 23:26, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
- If you are still in Oakland County, there is a listing at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Michigan/Detroit#Oakland County - If you are only interested in doing a few at a time I can make a list WhisperToMe (talk) 00:55, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- I will be in Oakland County over Thanksgiving weekend only so I'll try to snap some on that WP list. Are there photos in particular that you would like? Bobby (talk) 02:07, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- If you are still in Novi please get Novi, Farmington Hills, and Farmington. For Novi the new library, Novi High School, the school district HQ, and city hall are priorities (hopefully they are close together). The hospital complex would be helpful too. For Farmington Hills please get the main library, the corporate offices, and the other two high schools. For Farmington please get the branch library and school district HQ. If you have room for more, in West Bloomfield please get the Chaldean Center. I hope this isn't too much... WhisperToMe (talk) 02:24, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- I won't be in Novi for very long, but I will see what I can do :). Bobby (talk) 11:13, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Assists
editYou know that adding Assists is going against consensus, so why do you insist on adding it? JMHamo (talk) 01:40, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- This resulted in no consensus and a lack of interest from everyone to continue arguing. No consensus does not mean no assists. Bobby (talk) 01:50, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- You are wrong, there is clear consensus, and going against this may result in you being blocked for disruptive editing now. JMHamo (talk) 01:52, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)User:Xboxandhalo2 Are you kidding me? The consensus is clear, it is just you pushing for assist and dont realize there is consensus. No assist. QED237 (talk) 11:16, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

editPlease refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at 2013–14 Real Madrid C.F. season. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted or removed.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor then please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive, until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively could result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Stop adding assist against current consensus. QED237 (talk) 13:43, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

- Do I not get a chance to defend myself during this "discussion"? Bobby (talk) 22:38, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- What is there to defend and discuss? You refused following consensus despite people telling you to stop. The issue was taken to administrators that has given you a warning and told you to stop. Not really a discussion. QED237 (talk) 22:45, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- We have differing viewpoints regarding our interpretations of WP:Consensus. Don't you think it would be fair for me to at least express my opinions at ANI before a decision is made? Bobby (talk) 22:49, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- Well maybe but you had your chance to discuss but choose to continue, so I had to report you. You could have had your chance to comment if you had not inserted assist several times, but instead started discussing when you were reverted. QED237 (talk) 22:54, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- I was referring to the ANI, not a discussion with you. No offense. Bobby (talk) 22:58, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yes I understand but ANI is not really a place for discussion. An issue is presented and administrators make decisions, but I can understand that you wanted to comment. QED237 (talk) 23:00, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- I suppose there is a fundamental flaw with ANI when not all involved parties have a chance to comment. Bobby (talk) 23:03, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
