Giotto

No. Vasari who wrote about Giotto said that he had a wicked sense of humour and was always making jokes.

The problem there is that it wasn't his picture that he painted the fly on. When he was just a kid, he was put in charge of minding the sheep. One day the most famous painter in the city of Florence came by and saw him scratching a picture of one of his sheep onto a rock. The artist, Cimabue, was so impressed that he asked the boy's father if he could teach him. The family moved to Florence and Giotto started to learn all about painting. One day when Cimabue was out of the studio, Giotto painted a fly on the nose of the figure that Cimabue was painting. When he came back, he tried to shoo it away. Then he painted over it.

The painting probably doesn't exist anymore. In fact there are only a tiny number of Cimabue's paintings in existence, may six or seven.

You can read about it in a closeby online encyclopedia. And no, only users not logged in can be traced under normal circumstances. If a user is suspected of foul play though, a check user can be done by specially trusted admins. henrik•talk 12:33, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
