Preshow/Prolouge

edit

[Opening - Pre-show] The house lights are up, and the main music from "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" is playing. The Triforce and the Master Sword are viewed onstage for the preview show.

Prologue: Link: The Boy Without A Fairy Lights go out, and the Triforce and Master Sword are taken offstage. The voice of THE GREAT DEKU TREE speaks, while we view a very dark sight of the inside of LINK's house.

THE GREAT DEKU TREE: In the vast, deep forest of Hyrule... Long have I served as the guardian spirit... I am known as the Deku Tree... The children of the forest, the Kokiri, live here, with me. Each Kokiri has his or her own guardian fairy. However, there is one boy who does not have a fairy...

[LINK mumbles during his vile dream.]

Dream sequence. We see a young woman that is running in fear. The poor mother is holding a young baby that is close to her chest. She has nowhere to run, yet, she grows weaker. She leaves her dear child on a spot to where THE GREAT DEKU TREE takes care of him. The woman goes offstage thus shrieks in terror. We then hear a sinister laugh from GANONDORF, and thus see a minor glimpse of his face. Dream Concludes]

Scene 1

edit

Scene 1.1: Kokiri Forest [We then hear THE GREAT DEKU TREE's voice, calling for the fairy, NAVI.]

THE GREAT DEKU TREE: Navi...Navi where art thou, Navi...Come hither. Oh Navi the fairy...Listen to my words, the words of the Deku Tree...Dost thou sense it? The climate of evil descending upon this realm... Malevolent forces even now are mustering to attack our land of Hyrule For so long, the Kokiri Forest, the source of life, has stood as a barrier, deterring outsiders and maintaining the order of the world... But...before this tremendous, evil power, even my power is as nothing... It seems the time has come for the boy without a fairy to begin his journey... The youth whose destiny it is to lead Hyrule to the path of justice and truth... Navi, go now...Find our young friend and guide him to me. I do not have much time left...Fly, Navi, FLY! The fate of the forest, nay...the world, depends upon thee.

[Music plays, We then see NAVI traveling throughout Kokiri Forest, passing many other Kokiri children. She thus locates LINK's House, which she has trouble getting to, at first. She then enters LINK's House with easy.] [NAVI enters, with indoor houses music playing. She encounters LINK, lying in his couch fast asleep. She tries to call for him, but is not successful.]

NAVI: Hello, Link! Wake up! The Great Deku Tree wants to talk to you. LINK, GET UP! Hey! C'mon! Can Hyrule's destiny really depend on such a lazy boy? You finally woke up! I'm Navi, the fairy! The Great Deku Tree asked me to be your partner from now on. Nice to meet you! The Great Deku Tree has summoned you, so let's get going...right now.

[LINK gets up out of his bed, and walks out of his house. Thus entering the vast Kokiri Forest.] [LINK then walks before the view of Kokiri Forest from his high view of the house. He then spots a green haired Kokiri girl walk before him. Her name is SARIA.]

SARIA: [Calling to LINK.] Yahoo! Hey, Link! [LINK walks down from his ladder, and walks up to meet SARIA.]

Wow, a fairy! A fairy finally came to you! Wow, that's great news! I'm so happy for you. Now you're a true Kokiri, Link! Wow, is that right? The Deku Tree summoned you? It's quite an honor to talk to TGDT. I'll wait for you here. Get going! Go see the Deku Tree.

[LINK walks towards the entrance to THE GREAT DEKU TREE, but a more arrogant looking Kokiri is blocking his path. This is MIDO.]

MIDO: [Stopping LINK's way to THE GREAT DEKU TREE. He has his hand forward to block his path.] Hey you! 'Mr. No Fairy!' What's your business with the Great Deku Tree? Without a fairy, you're not even a real man! What? You've got a fairy? Say what? The Great Deku Tree actually summoned you? Whaaaaaaat?! Why would he summon you and not the Great Mido? I don't believe you! You aren't even fully equipped yet. How do you think you're going to help the Great Deku Tree without both a sword and a shield ready? What? You're right. I don't I have my equipment ready, but if you want to pass, through here, you should at least equip a sword and shield!

[LINK walks away from MIDO, where he goes back to SARIA.]

SARIA: Hey, Link! Did you meet THE GREAT DEKU TREE? Oh? You can't pass Mido unless you're fully equipped? Well, I can't argue with Mido. Here, Link, I'll let you borrow my shield. Hope it comes in handy for your troubles.

[LINK takes the Deku Shield given from SARIA, and poses into a 'Item Get!' stance.]

As for the legendary Kokiri Sword, that's beyond my knowledge. I'm sure the Know-It-All Brothers may have a clue. Why don't you check with them?

[LINK then heads for the house of THE KNOW-IT-ALL BROTHERS. Where they greet LINK in a wise guy accent.]

KIA BROTHER 1: Oh, it's Link, what business do you have with us?

KIA Brother 2: Don't waste another breath, brother, I know what he may want.

KIA Brother 3: Isn't it obvious, he needs a sword. But not just any sword, the legendary Kokiri Sword.

KIA BROTHER 1: Oh but of course! I know what this means, but I'll be back in a flash! [Exits.]

KIA: BROTHER 2: So I hear you're summoned to meet the Great Deku Tree. Lucky you, I suppose.

KIA BROTHER 3: Yeah, that's unforunate for the rest of us.

KIA BROTHER: 2 But not that I care. Let's just get you your sword; what are Kokiri friends for anyway?

[KNOW IT ALL BROTHER 1 returns with a sword.]

KIA BROTHER 1: Here is your sword, fairy boy. Take it and go, we all know how important this must be to you.

KIA BROTHER 2: Yeah, go meet the Great Deku Tree now.

KIA BROTHER 3: Also, don't tell Mido we gave you the sword. You ought to know what we do when our secrets get out.

All BROTHERS: Take care now!

[Link then exits THE KNOW-IT-ALL BROTHERS' house, and makes his way back to MIDO, now all equipped to meet MIDO's needs.]

MIDO: I told you Link, if you want to see the Great Deku Tree, you must equip both a sword and shield! What's that? Oh. So you've got a Deku Shield... And what's THAT? Is that the Kokiri Sword? GOOD GRIEF!!! Still, even with all that stuff, a wimp is still a wimp, huh? Shoot! How did you get to be the favorite of Saria and the Great Deku Tree? Huh?! Grumble Grumble...

[MIDO tramples to the side of the path to THE GREAT DEKU TREE, where LINK and NAVI walk through.]

Scene 1.2: The Great Deku Tree [Both LINK and NAVI walk before the appearance of THE GREAT DEKU TREE.]

NAVI: Great Deku Tree... I'm back!

THE GREAT DEKU TREE: Oh...Navi. Thou hast returned. Link...welcome... Listen carefully to what I, the Deku Tree, am about to tell thee. Thy slumber these past moons must have been restless and full of nightmares... As the servants of evil gain strength, a vile climate pervades the land and causes nightmares to those sensitive to it. Verily, thou hast felt it... Link, the time has come to test thy courage... I have been cursed. I need you to break the curse with your wisdom and courage. Dost thou have the courage to take on this task? [LINK nods yes.] Then enter, brave Link, and thou, too, Navi. [THE GREAT DEKU TREE's mouth opens wide for LINK AND NAVI to enter.] Navi the fairy...thou must aid Link...and Link. When Navi speaks, listen to her words of wisdom.

[Link and NAVI then walk into THE GREAT DEKU TREE'S mouth; entering the first dungeon "Inside the Great Deku Tree".]

1.3: Inside the Great Deku Tree [INSIDE THE GREAT DEKU TREE SCENE]

1.4: The Story of the Sacred Realm: Hyrule [LINK AND NAVI reappear before THE GREAT DEKU TREE, from where they all met before the dungeon. Thus the blue portal that surrounded LINK and NAVI vanishes.]

THE GREAT DEKU TREE: Well done, Link. Thou hast verily demonstrated thy courage. I knew that thou woudst be able to carry out my wishes... Now I have more to tell thee, woudst though listen. [LINK nods yes.] Now...listen carefully...a wicked man of the desert cast this dreadful curse upon me...

[We now see a red feel to the stage, where a glimpse of Ganondorf is riding on his horse across the vile fire flames.] This evil man ceaselessly uses his vile, sorcerous powers in his search for the Sacred Realm that is connected to Hyrule. For it is in that Sacred Realm that one will find the divine relic, the Triforce, which contains the essence of the gods...

[As THE GREAT DEKU TREE is telling the story of the sacred land, LINK is sitting on the ground. While the story is being told, three woman appear around LINK throughout this storytelling. These women portray the golden goddesses; DIN, NAYRU and FARORE. DIN appears in the color of Pink, NAYRU is Blue and FARORE is Green. All of them appear throughout this whole story by THE GREAT DEKU TREE.]

Before time began, before spirits and life existed, three golden goddesses descended upon the chaos that was Hyrule... Din, the goddess of power. [DIN spins in flares for her title.] Nayru, the goddess of wisdom. [NAYRU spins for her title.] Farore, the goddess of courage. [FARORE spins for her title.]

[A flare, or fire in a circle shape makes a stunning flash view. The three goddesses exit. Din re-enters.]

Din...with her strong, flaming arms, she cultivated the land and created the red earth. [DIN exits. NAYRU re-enters.] Nayru poured her wisdom onto the earth and gave the spirit of law to the world. [NAYRU exits. FARORE enters.] Farore, with her rich soul, produced all life forms that would uphold the law. [FARORE exits. All three re-enter.]

[DIN, NAYRU and FARORE charge for eachother, thus showing the gleaming Triforce together.]

The three great goddesses, their labors completed, departed for the heavens. And golden sacred triangles remained at the point where the goddesses left the world. Since then, the sacred triangles have become the basis of our world's providence. And the resting place of the triangles...has become the Sacred Realm.

[The stage returns to it's natural vision of the Kokiri Forest, and LINK's rises up from the ground where he sat during the story, dusting off the sand from his clothes.]

Thou must never allow the desert man in black armor to lay his hands on the sacred Triforce. Thou must never suffer that man, with his evil heart, to enter the Sacred Realm of Legend. That evil man who cast the death curse upon me and sapped my power... because of that curse, my end is nigh. Though your valiant efforts to break the curse were successful, I was doomed from the start. Do not grieve for me. I have been able to tell you of these important matters. This is Hyrule's last hope... Link...go now to Hyrule Castle...There, thou will surely meet the Princess of Destiny... Take this stone with you. The stone that man wanted so much, that he cast the curse on me.

[In a green flash of light, the Kokiri Emerald appears in the hands of LINK's trust. Thus the first Spiritual Stone is in the palms of the hero.]

The future depends upon thee, Link... Thou art courageous. Navi... Help Link to carry out his quest. I entreat ye...Navi...goodbye... [As the leaves fall from THE GREAT DEKU TREE, he starts to wilt and turn grey. Thus, he dies.]

NAVI: Let's go to Hyrule Castle, Link. [To THE GREAT DEKU TREE.] Goodbye...Great Deku Tree....

[LINK exits, as NAVI Looks back one more time at the DEKU TREE before catching up to LINK offscreen. Blackout.]

Scene 1.5: Leaving Kokiri Forest

[As LINK and NAVI enter Kokiri Forest, MIDO is blocking their way again. He looks upset.]

MIDO: Hey, Link? What did you do?! The Great Deku Tree... did he... die? How could you do a thing like that?! It's all your fault!! [MIDO exits offstage.]

[LINK and NAVI then head for the other side of Kokiri Forest, where they reach the exit of Kokiri Forest. To enter Hyrule's field.]

[LINK and NAVI are both making their way across the bridge that connects Kokiri Forest and Hyrule Field. They encounter SARIA and her fairy.]

SARIA: Oh, you're leaving... [LINK is surprised, and turns around to see SARIA. He approaches her.] I knew it... I knew that you would leave the forest... someday, Link... Because you are different from me and my friends.... But that's OK, because we'll be friends forever... won't we? [SARIA brings out a Fairy Ocarina, to give LINK.] I want you to have this Ocarina... Please take good care of it.

[LINK is given the Ocarina, and this the OCARINA tune plays for it's acquirement.]

When you play my Ocarina, I hope you will think of me and come back to the forest to visit.

[LINK starts to walk backwards, then runs out to enter Hyrule Field with NAVI. SARIA stands where she was while she watches the two exit. Blackout.]

Scene 2

edit

Scene 2.1: Hyrule Field [Lights go up. We see the vast land of Hyrule Field. LINK and NAVI are making their way out of the entrance from Kokiri Forest. They are stopped by an Owl from the top of a tree.]

Kaepora Gaebora:

Hoo Hoot! Link... Look up here! It appears that the time has come to start your adventure! You will encounter many hardships ahead... That is your fate. Don't feel discouraged, even during the toughest times! Go straight this way and you will see Hyrule Castle. You will meet a princess there... Alright then, I'll see you around! Hoot hoot hoot hoot!

[The owl then flies off, back behind offstage. LINK and NAVI continue to walk towards the castle, while the sky starts to turn to evening, suddenly dark.]

NAVI: The princess, eh? I'm sure she's really pretty, Link! I hope she doesn't steal you away from Saria. I know you like her! He he he. Say, why is it so dark already?

[Two stalchilds star to appear from the ground and walk towards LINK and NAVI.]

NAVI: Eep! Link, those gross skeleton things are coming for us. Do something! Fight them!

[Link pulls out his sword and prepares to fight the two stalchilds.] [Stalchild fight scene begins.] [The sun rises back up, and the castle door reopens.] [LINK and NAVI enter through the Hyrule gates.]

Scene 2.2: Hyrule Market [LINK and NAVI enter a huge area of the Hyrule Castle: The Market. Tons of people are mingling and buying goods. LINK tries to talk to people, but they discriminate Link in various ways.]

Red Twin: Oh look at that poor boy. He's not from around here.

Blue Twin: No way brother, he's definitely not from our town.

Red Twin: He dresses silly too! What a child.

[BOTH laugh.]

Blue Twin: Leave us be, urchin. Ho ho ho.

[LINK walks away, while NAVI gives a hasty look to the TWINS.] [LINK then walks over to a madam that is wearing a blue dress.]

Yan: Oh dear little fellow, are you lost? Sorry hon, I can't help you anyway. Oh ha ha ha ha.

[LINK sadly walks away ad bumps into Honey and Darling.

Honey: Hey! Watch it maggot.

Darling: You scared the heck out of me. And we were having a good time before you showed up.

Honey: Leave us alone, kid. This is none of your business.

[LINK then walks away and spots the path to the Castle of Hyrule. He also sees a lone farm girl near the fountain. He walks over to talk to her.]

MALON: Hi there, stranger. Hey, your clothes! They're different... different... you're not from around here, are you? Oh, you're a fairy boy from the forest! My name is Malon. My dad owns Lon Lon Ranch. My dad and I came here so he could deliver milk to the castle. But he hasn't come back yet... Oh hey, fairy boy. Are you going to the castle? Would you mind finding my dad? He might have fallen asleep somewhere around the castle. What a thing for an adult to do. Tee hee. Oh, you'll need this if you find him. I've been incubating this egg very carefully. I'm entrusting it you now, Link. Bye, fairy boy!

[Link then exits upstage to enter Hyrule Castle.]

Scene 2.3: Hyrule Castle [LINK and NAVI enter the area of Hyrule Castle. Where, yet again, they are greeted by KAEPORA GAEBORA.]

KAEPORA GAEBORA:

Hey, Link! Over here! The princess is inside the castle just ahead. Be careful not to get caught by the guards! Ho ho ho hoot! Hoooo. You are a smart kid, I know you'll be fine. Good luck, then. Hoo hoo.

[The owl flies off again, thus leaving LINK and NAVI to enter Hyrule Castle. The sky starts to turn to evening and night again, thus morning strikes when Link's egg hatches into a Cucco.]

[LINK is now passing through a complex path to avoid being seen by the guards of Hyrule Castle's entrance.] [The Egg hatches, thus revealing a Cucco, where Link encounters a sleeping TALON.] [LINK has the Cucco in front of TAlON to wake him up from the 'cock-a-doodle-do' noise.]

TALON: [Waking up.] What in tarnation? Can't a person get a little shut eye around here? Hello, and who might you be? Yep, I'm Talon, the owner of Lon Lon Ranch. I went to the castle to deliver some milk, but I sat down here to rest, and I guess I fell asleep. What?! Malon was looking for me? I'm gonna catch it from her now! I messed up bad, leaving Malon behind to wait for me! She's really going to let me have it! [TALON exits stage right.]

[LINK grabs box crates to stand on top of, to enter a tunnel that leads to the Castle Courtyard.]

Scene 2.4: Castle Courtyard

[We see LINK entering from a fountain [stage left] that was from the small waterfall from Hyrule Castle.] [Setting: Castle Courtyard gardens. Guards are patrolling the garden and topiary areas. LINK makes his way pass the guards unnoticed. NAVI yells a few "Hey!" notices to build suspense that the guards will notice them. Luckily they don't, and LINK and NAVI pass the last guard and through the gate tunnel. Out of relief, LINK exits stage right, while NAVI makes a fart noise with her tongue at a guard.]

Scene 2.5: Meeting Zelda

[Setting. Castle Courtyard. LINK and NAVI have entered a a circular arena of the courtyard. Flowers are blooming in the center, with a platform up left stage. LINK enters stage right, and makes his way up to the platform, where PRINCESS ZELDA is standing. Her back is facing in front of him, while she is looking through a stained glass window. LINK makes a gestured noise to get her attention. Curiously, ZELDA looks behind her and notices LINK in surprise.]

PRINCESS ZELDA: [In shock.] Who?! Who are you? How did you get pass the guards?

Oh? What's that? Is that... a fairy?! Then, are you... are you from the forest?

Then... then... you wouldn't happen to have... the Spiritual Stone of the Forest, would you?! That green and shining stone...

Do you have it?

LINK: [Nods.]

PRINCESS ZELDA: Just as I thought!

I had a dream... In the dream, dark storm clouds were billowing over the land of Hyrule...

But suddenly, a ray of light shot out of the forest, parted the clouds and lit up the ground...

The light turned into a figure holding a green and shining stone, followed by a fairy...

I know this is a prophecy that someone would come from the forest...

Yes, I thought you might be the one...

Oh, I'm sorry!

I got carried away with my story and didn't even properly introduce myself!

I am Zelda, Princess of Hyrule.

What is your name?

[ZELDA holds her hand above LINK's hand and closes her eyes to sense LINK's name.]

...Link...

Strange... it sounds somehow... familiar.

[ZELDA takes her hand off of LINK's hand.]

OK then, Link...

I'm going to tell you the secret of the Sacred Realm that has been passed down by the Royal Family of Hyrule.

Please keep this a secret from everyone...

LINK: [LINK nods.]

ZELDA: The legend goes like this... [As ZELDA is telling the Sacred legend of the Gods, DIN, NAYRU and FARORE enter onstage. Entering from stage left. The mood color is Blue once again, like with the story told by the GREAT DEKU TREE.]

The three goddesses hid the Triforce containing the power of the gods somewhere in Hyrule.

The power to grant the wish of the one who holds the Triforce in his hands.

[DIN, NAYRU and FARORE exit stage left, and the Triforce reappears.]

If someone with a righteous heart makes a wish, it will lead Hyrule to a golden age of prosperity...

If someone with an evil mind has his wish granted, the world will be consumed by evil... That is what has been told...

So, the ancient Sages built the Temple of Time to protect the Triforce from evil ones.

[The Triforce is taken offstage at this point. Attention goes back to LINK and ZELDA. The blue lights fade away.]

That's right... The Temple of Time is the entrance through which you can enter the Sacred Realm from our world.

But the entrance is sealed with a stone wall called the Door of Time.

And, in order to open the door, it is said that you need to collect three Spiritual Stones.

And another thing you need...is the treasure that the Royal Family keeps along with this legend...

The Ocarina of Time!

Did you understand well the story I just told you?

LINK: [Nods with a smile.]

ZELDA: That's great!

I forgot to tell you... I was spying through this window just now...

The other element from my dream... the dark clouds... I believe they symbolize... that man in there!

[LINK walks up to the window view and notices a dark figure. Lights come up on the spot of stage left. We see GANONDORF walking downstage and bowing down on his knee to the King.]

ZELDA: Can you see the man with the evil eyes?

That is Ganondorf, the leader of the Gerudos. They hail from the desert far to the west.

Though he swears allegiance to my father, I am sure he is not sincere.

The dark clouds that covered Hyrule in my dream... They must symbolize that man!

[GANONDORF looks to his right and makes a grin at LINK. Spotlight goes out on GANONDORF and exits stage left.]

ZELDA: What happened? Did he see you? Don't worry. He doesn't have any idea what we're planning... yet!

...Yes. I told my father about my dream... However, he didn't believe it was a prophecy...

But... I can sense that man's evil intentions!

What Ganondorf is after must be nothing less than the Triforce of the Sacred Realm.

He must have come to Hyrule to obtain it!

And, he want's to conquer Hyrule... no, the entire world!

Link... now, we are the only one who can protect Hyrule!

Please!

LINK: [Takes ZELDA's hands. Nods.]

ZELDA: Thank you!

I...I am afraid... I have a feeling that man is going to destroy Hyrule.

He has such terrifying power!

But it's fortunate that you have come...

We must not let Ganondorf get the Triforce!

I will protect the Ocarina of Time with all my power! He shall not have it!

You go find the other two Spiritual Stones!

Let's get the Triforce before Ganondorf does, and then defeat him!

One more thing... Take this letter... I'm sure it will be helpful to you.

[Item get music. ZELDA hands LINK "Zelda's Letter". Link puts it away for safe keeping. He exits off the platform to stage right. IMPA enters from stage right.]

ZELDA: Good luck Link. Be safe. [ZELDA exits stage left as soon as lights go off on her.]

[Right before LINK gets off stage, he encounters IMPA.]

IMPA: I am Impa of the Sheikahs. I am responsible for protecting Princess Zelda. Everything is exactly as the Princess foretold.

You are a courageous boy... You are heading out on a big, new adventure, aren't you?

My role in the Princess's dream was to teach a melody to the one from the forest.

This is an ancient melody passed down by the Royal Family.

I have played this song for Princess Zelda as a lullaby ever since she was a baby.

There is mysterious power in these notes.

Now listen carefully...

[IMPA starts to whistle with her fingers at her mouth. Playing the tune of "Zelda's Lullaby". She plays it twice for LINK to memorize.]

LINK: [LINK takes out the Fairy Ocarina and plays the tune of "Zelda's Lullaby". Successfully makes the lights turn pink.]

IMPA: You have learned Zelda's Lullaby!

If the castle soldiers find you, there will be trouble. Let me lead you out of the castle.

[IMPA takes LINK's hand and both of them run off stage right.] [Scene change. We are now in the entrance to Hyrule Market outside of the gate, and in the view of Hyrule Field.]

IMPA: You brave lad... We must protect this beautiful land of Hyrule!

Take a good look at that mountain. That is Death Mountain, home of the Gorons. They hold the Spiritual Stone of Fire.

At the foot of Death Mountain you will find my village, Kakariko. That is where I was born and raised.

You should talk to some of the villagers there before you go up Death Mountain.

The song I just taught you has some mysterious power. Only Royal Family members are allowed to learn this song.

Remember, it will help to prove your connection with the Royal Family.

The Princess is waiting for you to return to the castle with the stones. All right. We're counting on you!

[IMPA brings out a Deku Nut, and disappears from a light to conceil her retreat. LINK is stunned and looks back to notice IMPA has vanished from where she stood.]

Scene 3.1: Further Adventure Onwards!
[Setting: Hyrule Field. LINK and NAVI are walking their way to Kakariko Village. NAVI is talking about their further plans about obtaining the 2nd Spiritual Stone and meeting the people of Kakariko. While she is going on, LINK is staring at the east of their destination: the sight of Kokiri Forest.]

NAVI: So what I was thinking. Maybe if we asked nicely, the Goron people will give us the Spiritual Stone of Fire. That way we'll be on our way. It's always nice to be polite to people, because you'll get a lot out of it. Also, how do you think the Kakariko Villagers will respond to us? Hopefully not as selfish as those Castle Market folks. That one lady was trying to catch me like I was crazy. I'm glad you're there with me though Link.

[As she says this. LINK is looking towards the far distance of Kokiri Forest.]

NAVI: Link? Link? LINK!

[LINK snaps out of it and notices NAVI speaking to him.]

NAVI: Hey! Listen! Do you miss Kokiri Forest? [LINK doesn't respond.] Do you miss Saria? [No response again.] Don't worry LINK, we'll meet with her again. But listen, we dont have much time, it's of the essence right now. Let's hurry to Kakariko Village, quick!

[LINK and NAVI move onwards towards the entrance to Kakariko Village. Exit stage left] [Setting: Kakariko Village. Characters such as the Carpenters, Anju, the roof top guy, and the Keaton Guard are in sight. LINK and Navi enter from stage left.]

NAVI: Wow! This place is huge! Hope we can find our way around. But let's focus on finding the way to Death Mountain, like Impa told us about.

[LINK and NAVI walk up to a man who is a carpenter]

CARPENTER BOSS: Woaah there, kiddo! What are you doing here in these parts? You don't look to be from around here. Just don't go getting into trouble with our carpentry building set. We have a huge investment into creating a market of our own in this Village. We don't have time to deal with trouble making kinds. Right boys?

CARPENTER #1: Yes boss!

CARPENTER #2: Absolutely!

CARPENTER #3: No way we're gonna lose time away from our project.

CARPENTER #4: I was up all night making the blueprints!

CARPENTER BOSS: See kid? We're working very hard to get our job done. So don't cause any trouble. Go that? Good! Now scram. Whaaaaa!

[Carpenter walks upstage, with the other Carpenters.]

NAVI: He seemed real nice. Why don't we go ask that nice lady over there. I'll be she'll give us some guidance around here.

[LINK and NAVI approach the nice lady, ANJU.]

ANJU: Oh hi there you too, you need anything?

NAVI: Yeah, we were wondering if you can show us where the gate to Death Mountain was. We're kind of lost. It'd be great to get some guidance around here.

ANJU: Oh, it's to the west of this village, [pointing] right over there! I would show you the way there, but I have problems of my own that are unfinished. I need to catch all these Cuccos around the village. And what's worse, I'm allergic to their fur. Sorry.

NAVI: That's okay. Good luck though! [Aside. Walking away] I feel bad for her, considering she has to do it all by herself. Oh, but look! I see the entrance to Death Mountain! Let's go Link!

[LINK and NAVI walk up the stairs to the gate that leads to Death Mountain. The Keaton Guardsmen blocks their way, however.]

KEATON MASK SOLIDER: Woah there, little boy. I'm afraid I can't let you pass through these gates. Death Mountain Trail is a dangerous place. No place for kids your age.

[LINK hands the Guardsman the letter from ZELDA.]

KEATON MASK SOLIDER: Oh, this is... This is surely Princess Zelda's handwriting! Well, let's see... [He scans the letter.] Hmmm... OK... [he reads the next part, where he begins to grin.] "This is Link... He is under my rules to save Hyrule." [He starts to laugh.]

Wah ha ha ha hah! What kind of funny game has our Princess come up with now?! OK, OK, all right. You can go now... Just be careful. Mr. Hero! Wah. Ha. Ha. Ha Hah! [The Guardsman opens the gates with his signature spear stomp. The gates open immediately.]

By the way, Mr. Hero... If you're going to climb Death Mountain, you should equip a proper shield! It's an active volcano, after all!

You'll need a Hylian Shield, but I'm afraid the Town Market doesn't have anymore in supply. I wonder if there was another one around these parts. Hmmm? Oh, never mind. But I do suggest you get a good shield before you climb this fiery trail. Just a tip.

Well, this is my job... ...sigh...

[LINK and NAVI walk left of the stage, near the Well. To wonder where a Hylian Shield may be in store.]
