Welcome! edit

Hello, WikiSolar, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was Wiki-Solar, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Proposed deletion of Wiki-Solar edit

The article Wiki-Solar has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability. Not a single independent source mentioning Wiki-Solar is cited, and none has been found on searching.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. You have been blocked indefinitely from editing. Your username indicates that the account represents an organisation, which is also against Wikipedia policy, as a Wikipedia account is only for an individual person. In addition, much of your editing has apparently been aimed at promoting or publicising the web site of that organisation, which is also against policy. Wikipedia is not a medium for promotion.
What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.

Please note that, in order for your request to have a reasonable chance of success, you must address the conflict of interest issue, and make it clear that your editing will not be promotional, and will not be made on behalf of your business or other organisation.

If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. JamesBWatson (talk) 16:35, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I am not a company or an organisation. I provide an independent information service, which is widely used and non-commercial.

Decline reason:

We don't get to insert links to our own websites into Wikipedia articles. Regarding the username, perhaps the block notice needs to be updated; WP:ORGNAME policy also disallows names of websites. --jpgordon::==( o ) 18:29, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

For the same reason the proposed page should also not be deleted. I am amazed that you say you can find no independent references to this information service. I suggest you look for example at Renewable Energy Focus (two references), PV Magazine (six references), PV Tech etc.

You administrators seem to have pretty draconian powers. They should be used with care. If an alterative username would prevent this problem in the future, I am open to that.

Thanks for mentioning "Renewable Energy Focus", "PV Magazine", & "PV Tech". It is, of course, far easier to find what you are looking for if you know where to look for it, and with that help I have found a few mentions of Wiki-Solar. However, they looked at best like brief news reports of information which happens to have been provided by Wiki-Solar, not really substantial coverage of Wiki-Solar itself, and at worst like press releases. I also see that Renewable Energy Focus's description of itself includes the statement "Whether your company is active in renewable or clean energy wishing to reach potential users of your products and services, or whether your company is part of the innovative renewable energy value chain helping renewable product manufacturers bring down the cost of their own offerings, then Renewable Energy Focus is the ideal vehicle for you to reach them." That gives the impression of being a business promotion service, rather than an independent source. However, it may well be that you can give more specific references to substantial independent coverage of Wiki-Solar. If so, please do so, since that will establish notability, and the article will not be deleted. Giving the names of the publications in question has helped me to track down some mentions of Wiki-Solar, but if you can give exact citations, rather than just the names of the publications, that is likely to be even more helpful. These publications are recognised by those in the sector as highly reputable sources. Of course trade publications need support from the industry, so your quote from REF is unsurprising and not an indication that it is 'a business promotion service'. I have referenced a few specific extracts[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] (where the urls for pvmagazine need changing to pv-magazine - they appear to be blocked too?!). I'm not sure why you want 'coverage of Wiki-Solar' - the aim is to disseminate the information, not to promote the name. Anyway it is all immaterial now I have been blocked so can't save or improve the article. I'm starting to see why Wikipedia's accuracy is the butt of so many jokes - those with no access to the facts are given free rein to edit with impunity; while those who have genuine links to information sources get barred!
