Richemont edit

Hi Wifione - Regarding the edit war here last week, the IP editor might have been none other than Nrcprm2026 aka Nmpay aka Dualus, an ARBCOM blocked user, based on use of the 71.212 IPs and Tendentious comment patterns cited by Amble in WP:Sockpuppet_investigations/Dualus/Archive.

Regardless, there have been no comments to my proposed compromise text. Do you object if I update Richemont as suggested in Talk:Richemont? Thanks again. ---MJH (talk) 00:13, 9 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Merry Christmas Wifione! I have been told by Anbu121 at some stage that you were interested in nominating him. I just wanted to ping you as I created the nom page and wanted to know if you are still interested in it. Cheers! TheSpecialUser TSU 04:02, 22 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • TheSpecialUser, firstly, my thanks for your wonderful wishes. Secondly, I am sorry for the delayed response and also for the way the RfA turned out. Am sure Anbu, who is a brilliantly quick learner, will be able to work upon the issues that editors brought out in the RfA. Please feel free to contact me for any future admin nom requests. This time I was busy touring. Next time, hopefully, I'll put in my mite. With respect and wishes for the new year. Wifione Message 16:54, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Therequiembellishere edit

Heya. I have a concern about an editor called Therequiembellishere. Looking at his block log, I'm aware you've had some interaction with him in the past, so I thought you would be the best person to take this concern to. A couple of months ago, I noticed the order of office had been removed from the infobox of the article on Rob McKenna: diff in question - [1] I was curious as to why it had been removed, so I left a note on his talk page. I left a reminder as well. The fact he didn't respond didn't overly bother me, until I decided to check some of his talk page and edits further. There has been a history of concerns, dating back years, over changes this editor regularly makes to infoboxes, including over the order of office but more lately to some of the more wide-ranging things as demonstrated in that diff. Most concerns make reference to the fact those edits of his go against the consensus format for infoboxes, and many did not received a response from Therequiembellishere.

Anyway, my point is, I came to his talk a sincerely curious editor. But looking at that history, I thought it might best if I alerted an admin. I have told him I intend to revert similar changes I see on other articles to their approved format, but beyond alerting you to this I don't want to get involved in policing editors - I'm just here to get on with editing, and I leave it to you to handle this whatever way you see fit. Thanks. Redverton (talk) 09:04, 31 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Happy New Year! edit

Best wishes for the New Year!
Wishing you and yours a joyous, healthful, and productive 2013!

Please accept a belated thank you for the well wishes upon my retirement as FAC delegate, and apologies for the false alarm of my first—and hopefully last—retirement; the well wishes extended me were most kind, but I decided to return, re-committed, when another blocked sock was revealed as one of the factors aggravating the FA pages this year.

Maintaining standards in featured content requires vigilance, dedication and knowledge of people like you, who are needed; reviews are always welcome at FAC, FAR and TFA requests. Somehow, somehow we never ever seem to do nothin' completely nice and easy, but here's hoping that 2013 will see a peaceful road ahead and a return to the quality and comaraderie that defines the FA process, with the help of many dedicated Wikipedians!

SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:37, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Sandy, firstly, thanks for your wonderful wishes. Secondly, it is wonderful news that you're back. You have no idea how advantaged the project would be/is because of you - and perhaps none happier than I that you're back. If there's any day you might wish to be nominated for an RfA, it would be a privilege to be able to nominate you. I'm posting a copy of this reply on your talk page. Again, thanks for your wonderful wishes. Great to see you around. Wifione Message 17:02, 8 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

RFA request edit

I can't find many ways that I can help. I've tried to start articles, I've tried improving articles, and I tried to delete articles approved for deletion (that time i got a warning from ClueBot NG, but I had good intentions). None have panned out. I think that in this position, I will be able to do more for the comunity and for Wikipedia. I may be young, but I will not do anything without approval.--SmartyPantsKid (talk) 18:28, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi SmartyPantsKid, my view in this would be that you should gain experience editing articles in Wikipedia rather than focusing on becoming an admin. Really, enjoy the project as an editor first. Come back to me after you've made many more mistakes and gained much more editing experience. If you need assistance at any juncture, feel free to write to me. Best wishes for the new year. Belated Happy New Year with a Toast! edit

Here's a toast to the host
Of those who edit wiki near and far,
To a friend we send a message, "keep the data up to par".
We drink to those who wrote a lot of prose,
And then they whacked a vandal several dozen blows.
A toast to the host of those who boast, the Wikipedians!

User ratings of books, movies, DVDs, etc. edit

I found out user ratings of the above items are not allowed in Wikipedia. While I understand the reasoning, I think there are times a set of user ratings is valid. If the number of ratings is fairly large (at least more than 30 and preferably more), it seems reasonable to use the average rating, say 3 of 5 stars on most sites. After all, virtually all the products are meant for consumers and large numbers of user ratings usually give some gauge of user satisfaction. I will say I have run into fairly rare cases where the book, movie, etc., has a cult following and this does not apply, as those in love with the work rate it a 5 by droves. However, if an article is well enough written to give a balanced view of user ratings, I think user average rating for the product is valid info for articles.

Now, where do I address these comments, so those making decisions on standards see my argument?

I hate to bother you, as I know you are busy with other items, so I in advance thank you for taking time to read this. Bill Pollard (talk) 09:01, 10 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Bill, my apologies for the delayed answer. I understand your views. My view is not similar to yours. As an encyclopedia, our intent is not to provide our readers' ratings of movies or books, but perhaps to provide details of the ratings that other rating sites have accorded to the movies or books. This primarily is an issue that has to be seen from the perspective of our NOR policy. Of course, we currently have four ratings on pages on Wikipedia which try to assess whether the article was considered trustworthy/objective/complete/well-written. That helps us get an idea of the value that readers give to our articles on these parameters. At the same time, you can propose your idea at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals). This is the place to submit new ideas and proposals. Do tell me in case you find a problem in submitting. Best regards. Wifione Message 11:54, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The People's Trust 1776 edit

I would like to know the real reasoning behind your continued deletion of the entries about The Peoples Trust 1776. You claim it is because it's a belief, when it is clearly fact. All you have to do is go to the UCC filings on their website to understand the facts behind the organization. they have all the filings and can be researched by the filing numbers. Best regards, StacyFunkyjomedina (talk) 08:58, 27 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Stacy. I delete many pages while assessing and closing deletion discussions that editors have. Unfortunately, I'm not quite able to place which article are you really pointing to. What was the exact name of the article that you believe I have deleted? If you could guide me to the link that showed that I have deleted that particular page, I could give you more details. Just for information, and I don't know if this is what you're looking for, there's an article named People's Trust Insurance Company on Wikipedia. Do write back. Best. Hi Wifione edit

Some time ago you dropped me a line sussing out my interest in becoming an administrator. While I still have absolutely no interest in becoming an administrator — my longstanding opinions unchanged — ironincally I actually do need to run the RFA gauntlet as soon as possible. I will soon be a party in a forthcoming ArbCom case (re: Richard A. Norton), involving serial copyright violation and its remedy.

My need is for the ability to read deleted files, nothing more, and I'm planning on foreswearing all use of administrative tools in my opening statement: to absolutely refuse to engage in blocking or unblocking, protecting or unprotecting pages, moving files, deleting files, creating revision deletions, granting or removing user rights, or any other administrative function — backed by a green light to immediately reverse these actions and block me. A certain percentage of RAN's problematic files have been deleted and restarted with edit histories deleted, or have been revision-deleted. If I'm not able to read this material, I feel I will be at risk of having my testimony discounted for not having been exposed to the full range of alleged transgressions.

Here is an example of the forensic analysis of RAN's copyvios that I feel I need to do: annotations and summary.

You seem to be a hugely respected administrator and I would be happy if you would consider co-nominating me along with Dennis Brown — who has agreed pending a brief review of my contributions. I had earlier asked Fram to co-nominate with Dennis, he being the filer in the Norton case, in hope of a more or less pro forma vetting, but he has declined to do that. (This is fine, I pretty much started a fistfight with him at AN/I to avert a lynch mob in the Norton case — RAN having narrowly escaped being indeffed in a previous ANI episode). I need to move really fast on this since there is a 7 day vetting process, as you're aware. Please do take a look at my contributions and let me know one way or the other.

Thanks! —Tim Davenport /// Carrite (talk)

Please disregard this. While I would very much appreciate your support in this unconventional request, I need to start the clock on the 7-day vetting process ASAP. Thanks again, —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 06:52, 6 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Manis Friedman edit

1. The video is not on "typepad". It was posted to YouTube and LiveLeak, and has been widely circulated.

2. Do a google search.

3. See Shmarya Rosenberg. The "typepad" site is an influential and relevant journalistic source.

4. Multiple sources exist. Do a google search.

5. The user in question, Veronika53, created the account for the sole purpose of editing this page, and has a highly-biased agenda as a member of the Chabad sect and a follower of Friedman's.

6. I would also like to call your attention tote first edit made by the used Vunderbahr, as they are indicative of the perspective of Friedman's followers regarding this controversy.

7. There is an ongoing attempt by the Chabad camp to whitewash and cover this up. Please do not unwittingly become an accessory thereto. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.102.160.123 (talk) 15:37, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi. Thanks for leaving your concern. Firstly my apologies for the situation. I really don't believe Typepad is what you believe it is. Having said that, I'll also request you to kindly read WP:BLP to understand why in biographies, the standards of Wikipedia are much higher. I cannot have a controversy section or a controversial statement based on a blog or a source that is a primary source. Please do write back for any other assistance. Other editors are also looking into this. Thanks. Wifione Message 18:12, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Typepad is a blog-hosting website. Shmarya Rosenberg is an influential blogger and journalist. Manis Friedman has been reported in multiple news sources to have made controversial comments about Palestine, Child sexual abuse, and the Holocaust.
  • Do you have some sort of explanation as to why you went in and heavy-handedly removed significant portions of the page that were well-cited, easily-researched, and relevant to the topic at hand? 208.102.160.123 (talk) 02:34, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Wifione: Why did you delete reference to the moment magazine incident on this page? Multiple significant journalistic sources have discussed the incident, including haaretz[1], the Jewish Telegraphic Agency [2][3], and in Moment Magazine itself (which is also a noteworthy publication).

Also i have a more accurate map of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa i can email it to anyone who would want it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tigerkhan007 (talkcontribs) 06:19, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

GOCE July 2013 news report edit

Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

  • Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. If you have signed up for the drive but have not yet participated, it isn't too late. If you haven't signed up for the drive, sign up now!

  • Progress report: Thus far we have reduced the number of May/June 2012 articles to just 124 articles, so we're on the right track. Unfortunately, for the first time in GOCE history, the number of articles in the backlog has actually gone up during this drive. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. We have over 500 editors on our mailing list, but only 18 editors who have done a copy edit for the drive. If you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you have an interest in copy editing. Join the drive! Even if you only copy edit one article, it helps. Imagine how much progress we could make if everyone chipped in just one article.
