Images edit

Whohe, Thanks for your edits in Greg Matthews but copyrighted images are not allowed to be used in wikipedia. Tintin 22:55, 4 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've now tagged your images with the "no license" template. All images have to have not only a source (which you supplied, thank you) but also a copyright tag explaining why we're allowed to use it. In most cases, we cannot use photos taken from other websites, unless we have the permission of the photographer or photo agency.
If an image doesn't have a source and a copyright tag, it is liable to be deleted any time after a seven-day waiting period.
I'm sorry about that, after you took the trouble to find the images. The articles look much better with images, but unfortunately it's illegal to use them, and as one of the top sites on the web we're likely to get sued if we do.
Thanks,

Image Placement edit

Whohe, Hi! Just to let you know that I have put the images you changed, (Huddersfield & District), back to the original placings I used when I uploaded the images and or created the articles. I would like them to be first, but it is against Wikipedia guidlines to do so as leading text should always come first. It's better to do that before more - strict - editors decide to change everything around. I had this problem a long time back and was taken to bits by administrators then. The guidelines do allow for images up to 550px to be used. So I have a policy of changing those back as well, some people only have 800x600px monitors but most these days are 1280 - 1400 on 15" and 17" screens so 500px is an average size. Also I note you still have Berry Brow Rail Station and Lockwood on your required picture list. I have uploaded those images also. Richard Harvey 14:57, 15 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Leeds edit

Hi. This is an odd question, so I came direct to your page seeing as you seem to have done most of the maintaining on "Leeds districts" and "Leeds environs". Is Middleton actually part of the city? If you look at the talk page for Middleton, Leeds, I asked if this is right. However, I don't think that article is exactly the most popular on Wikipedia.

Lowerhouses edit

Hi Whohe! I just noted your edit to the article, whilst patrolling with wiki VandalProof, and wondered why you removed the infobox template from the article. The general idea is to put those in every article that is about a place/location. So it may just end up getting put back by some editor in the future? Richard Harvey 19:05, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Richard Harvey,

Ta for your comment.

The infobox yes is a noble idea but Lowerhouses is not relevant enough to warrant it. It's really a district og Hudds. Villages and towns, yes of course they should have infoboxes.

Suburbs of Huddersfield edit

Hi, I see that you have removed some of the more obscure 'suburbs' of Huddersfield, however I think that a few of them, specifically Cowmes, Greenside & Rashcliffe do actually deserve to stay, as they are recognised areas of the town. I've added them back with a couple of others. --Thozza 21:23, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your feedback on the Challenge and Simon Davis articles. Actually, it was another user who deleted the 'mullet' and the 'world's saddest maths teacher lines; I simply reinstated the latter because it was so funny. I'm currently working on some women's cricket stuff but after that, I might have to attack the Nehru Cup and the World Championship of Cricket. And yes, I do remember the Perth Challenge of 1987 and I even still have the official program (minus a few player pictures which I cut out for a primary school assignment).

Heavy Woollen Category edit

You may have noticed that I added Ossett, Morley, Horbury, etc. to the Heavy Woollen District category. I notice that you said that the group was to be based around North Kirklees, and I was just wondering whether you mind the inclusion of non-Kirklees towns/villages? I do think that it would be inappropriate to have a Heavy Woollen category without Ossett though, as it was always seen as one of the main centres of the shoddy trade - certainly more than Mirfield or the Spen Valley was! Give us a message back; just didn't want to mess up your category Epa101 11:33, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Epa101, i set up the category so that the towns and villages in the North Kirklees area could belong somewhere. The title Heavy Wollen District fit as historically the area was known for it and it is a more interesting title than North Kirklees.

I think it is fine that Ossett is included as it produced the goods.

Ta for your message.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Cmon.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Cmon.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Unspecified source for Image:ColneV100.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:ColneV100.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:30, 3 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 02:30, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Michelle Clack edit

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Michelle Clack, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. ~ BigrTex 15:10, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:EJA1.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:EJA1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I've reverted your recent edits to Water Orton railway station; they were not, as you claimed, "minor"; and included the undeclared and unexplained removal of content. Andy Mabbett 13:58, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Maybe I should have explained the changes I made in detail. All I did was state which district the station is in (North Warwickshire) as that space on the page is currently blank.
Plus I stated as what service to expect at Water Orton incase I or someone else ever waited there. I deleted the mention of London after consulting current rail timetables produced by Central Trains as there is no longer a direct service.
In future if i make any changes, I will explain below to the world.

Minor edit edit

A minor edit signifies that only superficial differences exist between the current and previous version: typo corrections, formatting and presentational changes, rearranging of text without modifying content, etc. Please don't mark your edits as minor when they are not! (E.g. Settle railway station, Rufford railway station. Thanks. --Dr Greg (talk) 17:36, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Helensburgh Upper railway station edit

Please stop removing signalling information from railway station articles. And if you are going to remove any significant pieces of information from an article, please say so clearly in the edit summary ("re-jigg" doesn't suggest removal of content) and do not mark it as a minor edit. Thank you. Signalhead (talk) 22:10, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Minor edits edit

Please remember to mark your edits as minor if (and only if) they genuinely are minor edits (see Help:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearranging of text without modifying content should be flagged as a 'minor edit.' Thank you.

None of the following edits qualify as 'minor':

Images of rail stations edit

Pencefn,

Any chance that you could be able to photograph rail stations in the Glasgow/West of Scotland region ?

This would make Wiki entries for these stations more complete.

Have some taken over the years. My recent photography expeditions have been concentrating on the Lanarkshire and Ayrshire Railway. However, when I get out with my camera, I will be opportunistic. Kelvinbridge railway station was one of my targets for photography. --Stewart (talk) 15:54, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Station distances edit

I notice that you have been adding distances to the introduction of many station articles, thisn is a useful extra detail. "Traditional" lines in Britain are measured in miles (a topic that has been discussed several times at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject UK Railways) and so you might like to follow this pattern - it will save a lot of subsequent edits!

You can also get Wiki to do the miles/kilometres conversion for you by using the {{convert}} template. For instance, {{convert|10|mi|km|0}} will appear in an articles as:"10 miles (16 km)" (the last zero is to round the kms to the nearest whole number). Railway station infobox photos edit

Hi there, I've noticed that you are often increasing the size of infobox station photos to 300px, or creating them at that size to begin with. Please note that it was agreed on over at the talk page for the infobox that 265px be the recommended photo size. A new field 'image_name' has also been created as a substitute for 'image', which will hardcode the photo to 265px. This is by no means compulsory for you to do, but at 300px the infobox ends up being stretched, and 265px is about the maximum a photo can fit in without stretching. Eventually (hopefully!) all photos will be hardcoded to 265px.

Nevertheless, good work on the photos you have uploaded this evening! --- Dreamer 84 19:18, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:1986 WSC.jpg edit

Tynemouth Metro station edit

The article infobox specifies the location (and wikilinks it too) to give the article context - along with the rest of the article content. Wikilinking the first mention of Tynemouth on its own should be sufficient, without having to state the fact in the text. That's why wikilinks are so useful, you keep the narrative flowing, and people who desire more information (where is Tynemouth?) can click it to find out. Ta. Speedy deletion of Image:Rochdalestationfrontage112.JPG edit

A tag has been placed on Image:Rochdalestationfrontage112.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Rochdalestationfrontage112.JPG|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Proposed deletion of Peta Todd edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Peta Todd, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

no sources, no genuine claim to notability

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. You are now a Reviewer edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Speedy deletion nomination of Raindance (rave) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Raindance (rave), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of Washington Galleries bus station edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Washington Galleries bus station requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

Useful additions to bus station articles edit

Few suggestions for when you're starting articles on bus stations and others. There's usually a category for "Transport in xxxshire" - not only is that a useful addition in itself, but it helps The_Anomebot2 correctly categorise the {{coord missing}}. Even better would be if you could add the {{ coord}} tag yourself. It would also be useful if you could tag the Talk page with WikiProject Buses and the appropriate county WP (or WP England if the county one doesn't exist, which not all of them do). Non-free rationale for File:WCofC.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:WCofC.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Orphaned non-free media (File:Yearbook 1985.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Yearbook 1985.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:05, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Stagecoach bus route 555 edit

The article Stagecoach bus route 555 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

fails WP:GNG; no third-party secondary sources to indicate the notability of this specific subject

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Image copyright problem with File:Levenshulme100.JPG edit

Thank you for uploading File:Levenshulme100.JPG.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. Kelly hi! 13:32, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

January 2024 edit

Hello Whohe!. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Stacey Poole, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Whohe!. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Whohe!|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Maliner (talk) 17:39, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Whohe!, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Whohe!|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Maliner (talk) 15:11, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Stacey Poole edit

The article Stacey Poole has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Stacey Poole moved to draftspace edit

Thanks for your contributions to Stacey Poole. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources and it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Boleyn (talk) 06:34, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
