Administrators' newsletter – July 2021 edit

News and updates for administrators from the past month (June 2021).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

  Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

Comark edit

Hey — please do me a favour and cast your eyes over Comark. You draftified it a couple of weeks ago for being poorly referenced and reading like an advert. I think that's still the case (sources do exist, but they're press release regurgitations and the like), and I'm thinking of taking it to AfD, but would appreciate your views on this first. Cheers, --DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:56, 7 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

I would go for it. JMC, PRWeb, automation.com "sources" are entirely self-published. GovTribe & apollo don't show notability or reliability. At least two of the sources are copy-pastes of each other, and some don't even show authorship. WhoAteMyButter (📨talk📝contribs) 18:18, 7 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@DoubleGrazing: forgot to ping, in case you want to AfD it. I'll do it myself in a bit if you don't get around to it, so don't worry. WhoAteMyButter (📨talk📝contribs) 04:33, 10 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Tagging blank pages edit

Hello, WhoAteMyButter,

When you encounter a page that the page creator has blanked, please tag it CSD G7 or author requests deletion. Then, should the editor wish to recover the content, it's much simpler at WP:REFUND to have the page restored and userfied. Thanks for your work! Liz Read! Talk! 05:19, 26 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Liz:: Alright, thanks. It appeared in the NP feed so I assumed it didn't have other edits! Also, not that I expect you to know, but the monthly archives template at the top of my talk page seems to be broken...? Know why? Thanks, WhoAteMyButter (📨talk📝contribs) 05:41, 26 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
