January holdover list

Thanks for keeping this updated! Salad Days 00:54, 24 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad that even a small number of people find it useful! And thanks to you (and the others) that kept the list widdled down while I was away from Wikipedia. Whitejay251 01:23, 24 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

February holdover list

edit

I hope there are no two generation articles this time around! Salad Days 22:48, 17 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

As you can see, there were unfortunately still a few. I wanted to ask you if you could do anything to reduce the lag between the database dump and posting the new data for the main list - that's likely one of the factors in the extreme length of this list. I changed my methodology slightly this last time to catch more pages that should be on the list but drop off, due to error. Unfortunately, it's made it much easier to include pages that shouldn't be on either list (usually having been previously removed) but find their way back onto the main list due to the lag. I realize there's always going to be some lag due to computational time (Bluemoose got it down to two or three days), so we may find I have to go back to my old methodology. Well, I held off a little this time because I was nervous about over-writing everyone's comments... but I don't understand how waiting a few days would increase the holdover size. I guess I could keep a closer eye on the database dump page,[1] but honestly it's not a very interesting task! Salad Days 16:42, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

To be honest, it's not the length of the holdover list that bothers me so much as that I'm currently creating the list by hand and a longer list means more work! One of these days I'll look into having someone create a software solution for updating the holdover list. Something similar to the related watchlist tool, except that it would input a URL for version comparison and strip out everything but gray lines and line breaks.

As for why a longer lag results in a longer holdover list ... well, on its own it doesn't, it does in conjunction with the methodology change I've made that I discuss in the How I make this list section I added tonight. Since a lag re-introduces articles to the list that have already been "taken care of" and possibly removed by the time of the edit in which the new main list data is pasted, they are captured as holdovers under my new method, where they wouldn't have been under the old method.

I note you weren't successful in stripping out the {{deletedpage}} template this time around. This would certainly be a major factor in the length of the holdover list this go around. (Some poking around, shows there are over 1000 transclusions of the template!).Whitejay251 08:29, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I'm not sure why that didn't work, although I suppose my attempt at regex was broken. I will ask for assistance on the AWB page and see if anyone there can offer a suggestion. Salad Days 22:38, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Moved from front

edit

I had actually completed the L-Z list before starting on the A-K list, but through a text editing SNAFU, I irretrevably lost the entire L-Z list. Due to this frustration and the extreme length of the listing this time (I'll go into the reasons why it's so long on the talk page), I'm postponing posting the rest of the list for a couple of days. Updated DEP Section ONE

edit

I have updated the above Section by removing them. The Copyvios have been deleted and the Peruvian supermarket article has now been translated. Kathleen.wright5 00:12, November 18 2007 (UTC)
