I get an error message when I attempt to upload a picture to Marbled polecat page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marbled_polecat)

Upload warning: "." is not a recommended image file format.

Hi! The destination file name needs a file type. So,

Destination filename: Marbled_polecat

should be

Destination filename: Marbled_polecat.jpg

Also, I'm not sure that owner of that image allows anyone to use it for any purpose, but hopefully you know for sure.--Commander Keane 18:48, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Polecat helpme

I changed the title of the 'Polecat' page to 'European polecat' after searching the wiki to make sure that page did not already exist. I changed the page name since, according to the taxonomy box and the majority of the article, the page topic is the European polecat, while the term 'polecat' is a general term used in the common name of many mustelid species.

I see there are many dire warnings of being responsible for checking for double-redirects. When I go to the 'what links here' page I am not sure how to tell what on the list is a double redirect so I can fix it. How do I tell if something is a double redirect?

At this point I am almost regreting steping in to this mess since I see that people have linked the general term polecat to the polecat page which is focused on the European polecat rather then the term 'polecat' in general. Oh well!

I think the move was good, don't worry about any mess - it will be fine soon. The double redirects can be seen at Special:Whatlinkshere/European_polecat. Double redirects are the ones that are second level bullet points. For example:

• Polecat (redirect page)
  • List of collective nouns for non-human mammals
  • Mustelidae
  • European Polecat (redirect page)
    • Weasel
    • Ferret
    • List of placental mammals
    • Fisher (animal)

In this case, European Polecat (redirect page) is a double redirect. You visit it, and chang its redirect to #REDIRECT [[European polecat]] instead of the incorrect #REDIRECT [[Polecat]]. When fixing double redirects you never actually edit an article, just redirects. Also, even if you forget, a bot will fix them up in a day or so. So, now you can fix the double redirects (or just ask me to)--Commander Keane 19:58, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Another Entity

² and ³ are special Wikipedia character entities for writing km² or m³ I fixed the article. The other superscript mechanism annoys people because it causes many browsers to elevate text into the ink above. MaxEnt 16:18, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
