Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Reginald L. Wilson edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Reginald L. Wilson, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Wesleyrmccammon. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. – Athaenara 01:06, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Blocked edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Request reason:

I understand the reason I was blocked. I was not trying to promote. I was in the process of editing the page and correcting it when I was blocked. I started by using an article that was written about R. Wilson. As I was working, I think I must have inadvertently published the page. I went back and was making changes to be in compliance when I was blocked. I’d appreciate the chance to remake the page correctly. Thank you. Wesleyrmccammon (talk) 01:48, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

All edits on Wikipedia, whether to articles or drafts, appear in the Recent Changes feed, which is monitored by hundreds if not thousands of people. In addition, the button "publish changes" is equivalent to "save changes" and does not mean that your work is "published to the encyclopedia", though it is visible to those who notice the edit. Drafts are not immune from deletion processes. With language like "Reginald LaVincient Wilson always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer", and no independent reliable sources, you were being promotional. As you haven't indicated that you understand what was promotional about your edits, and not indicated if you have a connection to the LaVincient, I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 11:17, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

Again I appeal the decision. I do understand that the article in its original form seemed promotional. This was because I started by using a newspaper article found in the Bolivar Commercial newspaper. I’d still appreciate another change to correct the article and make edits to Wikipedia. I realize I shouldn’t have started by using the language of the newspaper. I should have started with just the facts. Sometimes shortcuts are not really shortcuts. I thought I could save time. Thanks for your consideration. Wesleyrmccammon (talk) 11:52, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

As you have still "not indicated if you have a connection to the LaVincient", I also have to decline your request. Yamla (talk) 12:01, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Unblock Request edit

I definitely do understand that this was an issue. That language was specifically what I was changing. As stated earlier, I started by using a newspaper article that gave background information. I was in the process of changing the language from a news article to an encyclopedia when I was blocked before I could save the changes. That entire original paragraph was rewritten to say simply “Reginald Wilson (born 1971; Crystal springs, MS). But those changes didn’t get saved because the account was blocked.

I again request the block be lifted so I can properly edit the article and make contributions across Wikipedia.

Thank you. Wesleyrmccammon (talk) 11:38, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

I speculate (but note, this is only speculation and I may be wrong) that you are the "husband Wesley" you mention in the article. If so, I'm afraid this is a blatant violation of WP:COI and you will not be unblocked to write about Wilson if so. You will need to specifically address this in any further unblock requests. If you do indeed have a conflict of interest, you'll need to convince us you understand why it is inappropriate to violate WP:COI and you'll need to tell us what you'll write about instead. --Yamla (talk) 12:06, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

COI edit

Ah, that makes more sense that the language of the article for the reason for the block. I did believe that I could be unbiased since I’m a scientist and writing unbiased is my business. However, that makes perfect sense and I accept that I will not be able to create an article for Wilson.

I will not create a page for Wilson. You have my word. I will not create one related to his brand or himself.

I would like the ability to edit on Wikipedia again as I’d really like to get into contributing to the community. Wesleyrmccammon (talk) 12:50, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

I understand you are saying you do indeed have a conflict of interest. You haven't specified the exact nature of that conflict, but aren't required or obligated to do so. You appear to understand the problem and have agreed to refrain from writing about Wilson and about related subjects, given that conflict. Excellent. What are you interested in writing about instead? You may wish to write a new unblock request telling us what sort of things you'd write about instead. --Yamla (talk) 13:04, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Interests edit

Thanks for the clarification.

There are four primary areas of interest that I’d want to contribute.

1) Botany and plant systematics - this is my primary research area and area of interest. 2) science fiction - primarily Doctor Who and Star Trek. 3) American Sign Language - I’m a member of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community and always look for ways to expand the information about the community. 4) Biomedical Sciences - I work in the Biomedical field and would love to create more awareness about the opportunities the field has to offer. @Athaenara: I believe this user is a candidate for unblocking. As the blocking administrator, what are your thoughts? --Yamla (talk) 13:55, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Yamla: I have no objections. – Athaenara 14:06, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Athaenara. Wesleyrmccammon, you are now unblocked. Welcome back and happy editing. You are free to remove any or all content from this talk page if you wish, as you no longer have an active block in place. :) --Yamla (talk) 14:26, 4 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
