Just looking for some help

edit

Hey, is there a way to get the bot to leave my "status" on my discussion page after it archives. I am not sure if i set this up correctly, but here is a link to my current page: My talk. Thanks in advance for any help. --Tecmobowl 05:10, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. You kept the brackets around the target and age, which you shouldn't do. — Werdna talk criticism 08:28, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Aussie Pollie Stubs

edit

I am very concerned about the recent deletion of around 50 stubs on Australian politicians. These articles lay the foundation for what Wikipedia will one day be..."a multilingual free encyclopedia of the highest possible quality to every single person on the planet in their own language" (Jimmy Wales). This however will not happen overnight. I draw parallels to my own project on Central Coast, New South Wales articles. 90% of the suburbs are stubs. But these stubs encourage anyone to edit. Even trivial information has a place on Wikipedia. It should not worry YOU if the articles contained very little information, but you should be happy that the articles had information. In many cases these articles only needed an infobox and they would have been reasonably adequate. In closing I ask anyone who has supported their deletion, that you reconsider your vote by visiting this page: Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2006 September 30#Albert Piddington (Australian politician) Todd661 10:38, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Please don't spam talk pages. — Werdna talk criticism 10:41, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sorry I spammed your talk page. But when I came across these deletions I got pretty worked up. I am sure you have considered you vote, but the large majority supporting the deletions wanted me to make sure an alternative opion was presented. I do thank you for not deleting my spam like some other editors, and have now debolded it, because I know that haveing that message standing out on my talk page would bother me. Todd661 10:49, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's okay, it's a relatively common mistake. You should be aware that it is, however, irritating. This section will be archived on the next Werdnabot archive run. — Werdna talk criticism 10:51, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
It was no mistake. I meant to do it. That doesn't mean I'm not sorry I did it. Todd661 10:55, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Possible Werdnabot glitch?

edit

This edit by Werdnabot seems to have prematurely archived my answer to a Help Desk question (check the very bottom of the diff), without archiving the question itself. Is this something to do with the content of my comment? --ais523 08:04, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

How... odd. I shall take a squizz at it later on. — Werdna talk criticism 09:32, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Come to think of it, given the timings it's quite possible that the bot was edit-conflicted (the Help Desk is quite large and can take a while to load); it may be that you haven't seen this before because bots hardly ever get caught in edit conflicts (as they load a page and re-edit it so quickly). --ais523 09:42, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Check the timestamps, I'd say that's likely. — Werdna talk criticism 10:05, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

American school

edit

Hey Andrew, thanks for your message. When I was doing my RfA thank you notes, I got terribly sidetracked by reading userpages and I actually did notice that you were born in California and came to Australia at a young age. I went to school in Indiana and graduated from Year 12 there. I really loved it and heaps of fun. :)
Thanks for your congrats on my RfA. I still can't get my head around the fact that many people supported me. I'll take a look at the RFA as RFC page and give it some thought. I agree RfA needs to be reformed, but I'm really not sure what is the best option. :/

Circular Werdnabot

edit

Hi, I've been trying to get Werdnabot to archive my page. In debugging, I found that Werdnabot seemed to have stopped on User talk:MSTCrow/Archive 3?

Starting archive job at 08:00 (UTC).
Running archive job on 118 pages.
[...]
Archiving page User talk:MSTCrow/Archive 3. Getting wikitext..
-Syntax error in Werdnabot directive. Not archiving page.

Probably because the page in question was trying to archive onto itself[1]? Regards, Ben Aveling 00:33, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's not the issue. The issue is that I've been out of town, and not been running Werdnabot. The debugging page hasn't been updated for quite some time now. — Werdna talk criticism 08:29, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tawkerbot

edit

I've responded to Splash's criticisms under my support vote at #49 (I think) - I've suggested adding a commitment from yourself and tawker that the bot be added to CAT:AOR, so the community can clip it's wings quickly if necessary - this might give the community some more comfort about what they appear to be seeing as the "thin end of a wedge". Perhaps you might consider this?--Mcginnly | Natter 15:27, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you wouldn't mind, I'd really like a response to the above. Thanks --Mcginnly | Natter 08:39, 6 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

RfA Bot

edit

I wanted to let you know I'm activly campaigning against this now. Please don't take it personally, or think that it means that I think you either can't cut code or that you're not trustworthy.

The issue is that the "problem-solution-execution" cycle has been much abused here. Let's be frank: You guys didn't even know how many blocks were going to be run. You've skipped right to the end, to the doing. Which is natural, since the planning and research are boring.

Use on wikiprojects?

edit

Is there any problem with using Werdnabot on talk pages for wikiprojects? Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Physics sees a lot of conversations, but people rarely get around to archiving them, leading to rather long (~100-200kb) talk pages. I've yet to ask the project if they want the talk page automatically archiving; I thought it best to check with you first. Thanks. Mike Peel 11:52, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

edit

An automated message from Werdnabot. Hi there, I tried to archive your user talk page, but it seems that you have an error in your Werdnabot directive that prevented me from correctly archiving your User talk page.

I don't think it likes the fact I split off the top of my talk page into a separate header template. If it's too tricky to get Werdnabot to process my talk page, perhaps, the bot should recognise

I've tried to tell Essjay, but he hasn't been around in a while... Sandbot, the regular cleaner of the Sandbox, is working again, and has been for some time. Permission to post IRC log

edit

Hi there, I don't know if you've seen the discussions at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Diane Farrell and elsewhere but I seem to have pissed some people off - ironically in one of the first times I've used IRC. User:Malangali asked in #wikipedia-en on Thursday about the Diane Farrell article and you responded. After you left I continued to discuss it with him, and he later provided significant evidence of notability on my talk page. After checking it out and considering the situation (and that the two previous speedies were out of process) I restored the article. I was just wondering if I could have your permission to post the log somewhere on wiki to prove that nothing underhanded went on, that I did not decide then and there on IRC, and to set some people's minds at rest. the wub "?!" 12:35, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Blocked

edit

I just blocked Werdnabot for an hour, since it seemed faster than figuring out what was going on with it and whether whatever it's doing had been fixed. It did the wrong thing on my talk page [4] and (from a brief look at other pages) it looks like i'm not the only one. -- SCZenz 15:42, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

It runs archive jobs at regular intervals, so if it starts up again and it's still not fixed, block it indefinitely until Werdna fixes it – Gurch 15:44, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'll indef block it anyway if I don't hear from Werdna that it's fixed within the hour. Better safe than sorry. -- SCZenz 15:45, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your bot has malfunctioned

edit

It just archived 14 sections on my talk page (basically everything that was on there). Only 2 of those sections should actually have been archived. Diff is here. It has been blocked (not by me) – Gurch 15:40, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Note also that we can't easily revert the edits that Werdnabot has made - for many archive pages Werdnabot is the only contributor so rollback won't work, so it will have to be done the slow way. I suggest you come up with something – Gurch 15:55, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, technically, Gurch seems to have beaten me to the actual blocking. ;) -- SCZenz 16:01, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Werdna, user:Mig11 is attacking me on my talk page in albanian language. Please stop this or do something to block that person. Thank you. --Aeternus 11:04, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Aeternus attacked me first, by using very offensive terms. He does not like my taste of music and that is for him a reason to block me! he deleted the discuscion on his talk page, because his own words (in albanian) are offensive and a try to insult me! I for myself didn`t delete anything, because i do not have anything to hide, as you can see on my talk page! just because I was once blocked (for the first time in wiki, because of the 3rr-rule, in one totaly other issue than music) he thinks that he can block me whenever he likes that. that is what he wrote in albanian in my talk-page! he is spreading negativ propaganda in other user pages about me and my taste of music! this is unbeliveable! I hope you can judge this issue neutral. Thank you.--Mig11 11:25, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Werdna is on a Wikibreak (meaning he is taking some time off from the site), and in any event he is not an administrator (at least not yet). I think that you will both have to ask someone else to help you. (By the way, I'm not an administrator either.) Newyorkbrad 03:31, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your bot

edit

Do you suppose you could teach your bot to remove topics over 7 days old from the reference desk? and dump them on their various monthly archive pages? This isn't the way that the RD is currently archived, but it might serve as a bandaid to keep page sizes down until a more custom bot is completed. Is this possible?--172.168.185.155 00:05, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
