Hello, Weppiez, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Notes

edit

Hi! I have some notes:

  • Don't forget that you can link to other articles, so there's not really a need to describe or define something that already has an article. To this end I removed the information about the Kwakwaka'wakw, as all of this should already be in the article on the ethnic group. Even if it's not, the biography of a single artist isn't really the appropriate place for general information about the people.
  • When referring to a person by name, the Wikipedia guideline is to use the last name except in very specific circumstances such as when someone is best known under a stage name or when the article is about multiple people.
  • The citations need to be in-line, so that it's clear what is citing what.
  • This needs editing for style and tone - make sure that this is as neutral as possible and that any opinions or interpretations of his artwork are attributed.
  • For the artworks, I would just place them in a list unless some of the artworks have a lot of coverage in independent, reliable sources. You also want to only use quotes sparingly, as they should only be used if the content cannot be summarized in words alone. It's also important to avoid listing prices and where something can be shipped, as this is going to be inherently promotional.
The artworks should also be a limited list in general, because if the artist has created a large amount of works it can be unwieldy to list them all.
  • Be cautious with sourcing, as not all sources are reliable. For example, you want to try to avoid sites that just sell artworks since in most cases they have little to no verifiable editorial oversight and using the page can be seen as Wikipedia endorsing the site. For example, My Mondo Trading looks to be just an art site - to use it we'd have to be able to show where it has been routinely cited as a reliable source by other reliable sources.
I'm concerned that many of the listed sources look to be places where you can buy his artwork rather than places where people discuss Alfred and his artwork.

This needs some work before it can be moved live. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:34, 28 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
