Donna Lasinski photo edit

Hello @WavyPhoton: I see you've recently uploaded a photo of Michigan State Representative Donna Lasinski to Wikimedia Commons. You claim the file is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International. The link you provide to the image does not immediately indicate this. I was wondering how you found out the licensing of the image. Could you please let me know? RoundSquare (talk) 21:54, 9 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm gonna be honest I don't know if it's Creative Commons or not. I got the author and the link that's all I know. If this gets taken down I'll likely upload my own work photo of the state representatives WavyPhoton (talk) 02:29, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@WavyPhoton: It's best the photo is removed then. The photo is likely not Creative Commons. Photos by the U.S. federal government are public domain, but this appears to be Lasinski's official portrait as Michigan state representative. Photos by the the Michigan state government are not automatically public domain, and are subject to copyright. Its an easy mistake to make. I'm going to file a deletion request. If you do have a photo of State Representative Donna Lasinski that you took yourself, and are willing to upload it to Wikimedia Commons, that would be great. Please, in the future, take more care to be certain of the licensing of pictures taken by other people. RoundSquare (talk) 03:40, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm gonna delete that photo from wikimedia commons now. But I have uploaded a photo I took myself of former michigan house speaker Andy Dillon and his photos in the 2006 and 2008 michigan state house elections. I need help adjusting the image to fit properly in the wikipedia page though. WavyPhoton (talk) 17:29, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@WavyPhoton: Thank you for uploading a photo of your own. This helps to improve Wikipedia substantially. I have helped you resize the image. When putting in an image into an infobox, generally you want to get rid of the caption text that comes after the filename of the image, in this case that caption text was the text between the "|" character and the "]]" characters. Instead, you'll want something such as "x150px" which resizes images. I recommend, for when you're trying to do something like this on Wikipedia, that you look to other examples that have done it correctly, and try to copy that. For instance, you can see properly resized images in an infobox on this page here: 2010 Michigan gubernatorial election.
Again, thank you very much for uploading this image. RoundSquare (talk) 17:45, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia Commons uploads edit

@WavyPhoton: Hello. I thank you for uploading various photos of Michigan politicians. It seems like there a step you need to take in order to confirm the free license of your images on Wikimedia Commons. It seems your uploads have been flagged for needing to go through the release generator. Here is a link to the release generator. RoundSquare (talk) 00:44, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

So the photos are screenshots of videos. Should I re upload them? WavyPhoton (talk) 02:17, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@WavyPhoton: Are the photos screenshots from videos that have a free license? Did you take the videos yourself? If both of those answers are no, then the images are likely not free license, and will probably be taken down. If these are your own works, meaning they are from videos that you have taken yourself, you should go through the release generation process and properly release them with a free license. Michigan Democratic Party edit

If you want to make a change to the Michigan Democratic Party article infobox, you start a discussion in the article talk page. Aside from that, stop messing with the infobox because of whatever axe you have to grind. Criticalthinker (talk) 04:16, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
