24 edit

Hey there, is this Ward Shrake? I wondered if I could bother you to ask if you ever worked on the TV show 24? As a plane passenger in the pilot episode? Many thanks,Acer4666 (talk) 12:02, 6 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Raton, New Mexico edit

(Editing / deleting my own posting of just hours ago. This done to start over; after calming down a bit, in regards to what I feel was an act of vandalism. See discussion page for entry of "Raton, New Mexico" instead.)

Thanks for your efforts to improve the Raton article with all those pictures. However, please note that Wikipedia isn't an image repository — the purpose of this project is to build an encyclopedia, not to collect images. Image galleries are sometimes helpful, but twenty pictures are quite too many. Don't think that you've done something wrong: it's that you're new and simply not familiar with our usual procedures. There is a place for all your pictures, where they can be collected and used well: the Wikimedia Commons. Your pictures are only on the English Wikipedia, while if they were on the Commons, they could be used by a Wikipedia in any language, as well as many other places. I'd advise you to check out Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons, where you can learn how to move them to a more helpful place. Ask me if you want any more help! Nyttend -- I think you're still behind the curve, here. Look again ... you deleted LINKS to pre-existing photos, in a pre-existing Gallery entry ... which Wikipedia's programmers took a long time to code up. You say I am "simply not familiar with our usual procedures". I think it's YOU who are out of the loop, on what Wikipedia is clearly BECOMING. You're saying we users can't use features the programmers CLEARLY wanted us to use! I say again: you deleted LINKS TO PHOTOS; not the photos themselves. Why the (bleep) would I make my unique, artistically done photos -- which you will not allow to be seen -- to some place where even more people can then totally ignore them!? Where's the sense in that? What you did is unthinking censorship! I ask again: revert your vandalistic edits, please. (You hurt it; so you should fix it.) Nyttend -- Note that the page you referred me to clearly states that "Commonsfolk appreciate it if you can add images you upload there to relevant categories or articles, to make them easier for other people to find them." That's tip number 12, as found on Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons. Wardster321 (talk) 00:50, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Nyttend -- I reverted your wholesale deletion of the photo gallery, for Raton, New Mexico. Reasons stated here; on your talk page; and in the discussion page for Raton. Wardster321 (talk) 21:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Note to all: just to clarify why I am so (clearly) upset over the deletion of the entire photo section, on the entry for Raton, New Mexico. I did not start that photo gallery. The history of the page indicates the first photo submissions came about in Dec 2006. Two persons previously contributed to that photo section, using photos they took themselves, since that time (but before I added any photos): one person added nine photos; another added one (or possibly two: one might have ended up at the top of the page, rather than in the Gallery). I simply added first one photo, then nine more, to what was already there. Other persons started that gallery: I did not start it. Other persons added the first ten pictures: I simply added ten more. Then Nyttend comes along, and without any research whatsoever, simply deletes the work of three or more persons. This is not good. Raton is a town that depends heavily on tourist traffic. Deleting the visuals showing why a person would want to visit this part of the world, strikes me (personally) as being commercially vindictive. The idea that no apparent research was done by the person doing the wholesale deleting; that no discussion was attempted, prior to that deletion; that many (bad) assumptions took place on that person's part, to cause it to happen at all; and that they admit on their personal page to doing "... lots of small mass edits, and because I tend to be slightly absentminded, please don't be surprised at an occasional illogical edit summary, such as 'Added map' when I meant to say 'Stub'" ... in my personal opinion, deletion was done for reasons other than those stated. Why leave the photos and/or gallery totally alone, for over a year ... then suddenly delete the LINKS to the licensed photographic contributions of three different persons? There is no good reason.
