Beaconsfield mine collapse edit

I just wanted to let you know that I've reverted back to a considerably previous version of the Beaconsfield mine collapse article, due to the fact that the last revert before your two recent edits missed quite a few bits of subtle vandalism by User:142.227.189.60. Unfortunately that means I reverted your edits as well. I'm just about to try and restore them from the edit history, but could you have a look and check I've done it right? --Canley 13:29, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wow, thanks, you're quick! Did it before I had a chance! --Canley 13:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

RE: Old Sydneians Proof edit

It was a long time ago that I added that in, but I'm pretty sure I got it from his Cricinfo page. It defintiely has something on there about him attending Grammar. Hope this helps, --mdmanser 07:19, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok cool, thanks. I added the info onto his page, which might be a good idea if you're gonna add them onto alumni pages. cheers Jpeob 07:37, 19 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kent-Meridian High School edit

Per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kent-Meridian High School, I just thought you'd like to know that the consensus for High School articles now appears to be swinging back in favor of deletion. So this may indicate the beginning of another campaign to remove most High School articles. Your opinion on the AfD article would be appreciated. It might be helpful if a notability standard for High Schools could be agreed upon. Thank you. — RJH (talk) 16:44, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikiproject Catholicism Assessment edit

Hello, fellow WikiProject Catholicism member. The project has recently begun work on assessing articles relating to Catholicism, and you are invited to comment and participate. The subpage for this assessment is located here. Thank you. —Mira 07:32, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

OK edit

Hi Jpeob - I think I'd be happy to be part of project Catholicism (since I seem to be on a mission already!). But you'll need to tell me what is involved. My journalsim is inter-disciplinary (I cover all religions and philosophies in our specialist unit) - but I noticed a number of significant gaps (particularly Australian church history) in the Catholic wiki items which I have tried to remedy. This isn't really surprising because I work for our national broadcaster's religion unit, and we have a special brief to pay attention to matters Australian that are not reported on adequately elsewhere. I also love the concept of wikipedia for all its faults - its soooo anarchic (in the very best sense of the word). I loved reading Bakunin as a teenager.

OK then, count me in
Sounds good -I'm happy to be part of it.

Fantastique edit

Can you help me with this page I'm writing. There is still the Post-WWII left to write but Wiki says the page is already too large. Can you help me split it? --User:JMLofficier

First, I realize I do not know how/where to respond to you. Should I do it on my talk page (if so how do you know there is a message for you?) or yours (as in, what I'm doing here)?

Two, as embarrassing as it might be, in the case of the Fantastique rewrite, my source is, well, my own book. [1] What i'm doing is cutting, pasting, condensing, rewriting, sticking to the main highlights, etc. I know yoou're not suppose to promote yourself on Wiki. How woiuld you source my book? My book of course includes a rather lengthy bibliography/sources of other books. I could source that as well?

Sorry for my inexperience. --User:JMLofficier

Query edit

I'm not sure what your particular concern is here. Though I'm aware of the issues of soapbox , Neutral point of view, Citing Sources, reminding is never unhelpful, and I'll look them over again. Are you noticing a particular deficiency in any of the Augustinian aricles? I have been pretty careful in citing sources where I can (and continue to seek more). It would help to know which bits of information (or perceived bias?) you are reacting to (or is it because Mitch and I have identified outrselves as ex-students and have a vested interest?). If you are wondering about the Augsutinian connections, I am not one. I am not a friar, but am part of the informal network of ex-students who would have an interest in these articles (and in them being accurate).

Loyola College, Mount Druitt edit

Most schools explicitly state in the article what suburb they are in? It would be nice to link back to Mount Druitt, New South Wales. If only to boost the "what links here" for that article! (or is it actually in a nearby suburb?)--Garrie 22:56, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

done.Jpeob 04:34, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I ripped off the infobox from King's - could you update it and remove the hide / unhide tags? --Garrie 06:15, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

BLP tags edit

When you add the blp template to articles, could you consider also adding some brief indication of what your concerns are? It's not always easy to tell, and IME the more I've edited and re-edited an article the harder it is for me to see what would stand out to fresh eyes - I suspect I'm not the only editor who has that problem. (For instance, Michael Kirby and George Pell.) --Calair 02:09, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ah, looks like confusion on my part and possibly a template glitch. When I look at that talk page, I get a box that begins with "This article must be edited in accordance with the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy". I interpreted that as "needs to be changed to comply with policy" and missed the "remember to follow policy when editing" sense that was presumably intended. So I took your edit to mean that there were specific problems with those two.
It looks as if the template has recently been edited to remove that ambiguity - it now begins "This article is about a living person and the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons policy must be adhered to" - but for some reason I'm still seeing the older version when I look at those pages. I'll see if it clears up of its own accord, and if it doesn't I'll try poking it. --Calair 04:55, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

New userboxes ... edit

I have deleted a userbox template you recently created, as userboxes should no longer be created in templatespace per the terms of the German userbox solution. Here is the userbox code so that you can recreate the userbox in your userspace ("userfying") if you wish.

Re:Regarding your proposed change to GPS Schools edit

Yeah I thought about zooming in the picture, but I decided against it. Firstly, I'm thinking of doing more to the pictures which would require them to be at present scale and secondly, I'm looking for consistency amongst each of the pages. Also, I think a general area of Sydney gives people unfamiliar with the area of exactly where teams were based around the placed a hundred years ago, and how they've developed outward over the years. If we just showed the city centre, 99% of people wouldn't know where that is in relation to the entire city. --mdmanser 10:06, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Terencetaoaap.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Terencetaoaap.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 13:07, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've now added the promo image fair use rationale tag. cheers, Jpe|ob 07:31, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

In line with Wikipedia's policy, any uncited facts about a living person should be removed to prevent libel action. That is what I did. Ehinger222 08:27, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I understand that you wanted a citation for the "liberal" comment, which is justifiable. I have removed that comment and replaced it with information as to him being a journo at vietnam. the other info is verified by the source i have supplied from the Whitlam Institute. Overall, though, I think you could have achieved your ends by talking things through on the talk page and making small edits - or just Being bold and removing the liberal comment and replacing it with sourced career-based material. Blanking the page helps no-one and just makes it look like you're blatantly vandalising the page. Cheers, Jpe|ob 09:06, 26 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks... edit

...for being bold and adding info to the FFA article about Lowy quitting. Ironically, I was checking WP:A-L/RC, clicked the diff's for your edits (which were at the top), and as I read them, a Ch. Seven news bulletin came on and told me exactly what you added. Talk about WP:V across mediums! Cheers, Daniel.Bryant 12:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Iranian Citizenship edit

I noticed you restored the Iranian Flag to Andre Agassi's "Country" category, indicating that he somehow had dual citizenship (even though he was born in the U.S. and has never even visited Iran). Curious if you have any evidence to back up this theory... if not I'd ask that you refrain from re-posting this edit. Thanks.--63.139.103.98 20:16, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I did not add the Iranian flag to Agassi. Even so, from what i can gather it is the consensus view of the editors of the article that he does in fact have dual citizenship. Perhaps you can bring up the matter more generally at the article's talk page. Cheers, Jpe|ob 05:28, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Esperanza! edit

Welcome, Wanderingflaneur/Archive 1, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Hrllo edit

It was a precedent established by Dr Adam Carr - when talking about terms which are widely used ony here in Aus you put an explanation of what they mean in brackets. As for acronyms the consensus seems to be that "New South Wales" rather than "NSW", "Queensland" rather than "QLD" etc is preferred. PMA 13:59, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes a discussion about the exact status of piped links would be worthwhile. PMA 14:21, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was reverting a change to the image as my original was for Brian Henderson the news anchor not Ian Henderson the football player - some wiki-noob had overwritten my image without checking. Clear your cache and 9's Hendo should be back. PMA 09:33, 16 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

September Esperanza Newsletter edit

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Thanks edit

Just wanted to say thanks for your understanding on the Chavez article: since the UN speech, it's getting hit with a lot of vandalism and low quality edits, so undertaking a major change at this time would be tricky. Thanks again! Sandy 02:01, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Numbering system edit

Please don't change the numbering system used for Australian office-bearers. This has been debated several times and we like the system currently in use. Changes will be reverted. Adam 09:12, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sir, I will not. But even so, this numbering policy is out of line with that followed at United States Secretary of Defense and elsewhere. Jpe|ob 09:21, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
