Speedy deletion nomination of User:Waltersobczak/sandbox/Walter Sobczak

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Waltersobczak/sandbox/Walter Sobczak requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.waltersobczak.com. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.   Please do not write or add to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Copyright, notability and conflict of interest

edit

  Thank you for your interest in creating an article for Draft:Walter Sobczak on Wikipedia. There are multiple problems with your submission. You cannot post copyrighted material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder. In short, a copyright owner cannot offer Wikipedia a one-time license for use. Rather, the copyright to the material has to be released – permanently and irrevocably – into the public domain or under a free copyright license that is compatible with Wikipedia's licenses. This is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, so all content must be licensed for that purpose. You can learn more about this policy at Wikipedia:Copyrights.

The second problem is notability. I am not sure you are notable enough, as Wikipedia defines it, to have an article. We require write-ups in reliable third party sources such as newspapers, magazines, or online publishers to establish notability. New articles about persons or organizations that are not notable are typically speedily deleted.

The third problem is conflict of interest. Writing an article about yourself is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view and refrain from using original research.

If you'd like to use the copyrighted content in an article, you can follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission on how to obtain the proper licensing. If you are the copyright holder, refer to Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for how to grant us permission to use your content. Alternatively, you could write a new article that does not closely paraphrase the material available online. However you would then still have to abide by the conflict of interest guideline, and even so, there is a likelihood that the article may be speedy deleted due to lack of notability.

I'm sorry this message could not be more favourable. If you have any questions, you can leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. --Drm310 (talk) 07:29, 25 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, Waltersobczak. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Drm310 (talk) 13:55, 25 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Raggadeath Attic Records artist biography.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Raggadeath Attic Records artist biography.jpg, which you've attributed to Attic Records. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:32, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I will ask the owner of the record company to which Raggadeath was signed to give me permission. He gave me verbal permission to use it 19 years ago. We still stay in contact, and I will ask him for permission in writing. Thank you Waltersobczak (talk) 01:51, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

With another citation that i used, i realized that this document was redundant for use as citation. Since my friend who owns the copyright to this media/press release is happily retired, i decided that the easiest course of action, i.e. not bothering him with business issues that he is retired from, is to removed the document. So the Attic artist biography uploaded document has been removed. Thanks and have a nice evening!Waltersobczak (talk) 03:03, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Billboard magazine, April 19 1997 Raggadeath article and interview by Larry LeBlanc.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Billboard magazine, April 19 1997 Raggadeath article and interview by Larry LeBlanc.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. AntiCompositeNumber (Leave a message) 00:57, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello,
Since then, I have discovered that this Billboard article is already on the internet, so it may qualify for free-use
https://books.google.ca/books?id=9w4EAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA64&lpg=PA64&dq=billboard+raggadeath&source=bl&ots=MVgYlEGj7V&sig=tSPoANaCj3flWaLAM-wC782lNxc&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiv3_i49KvPAhVs5YMKHQSaBDEQ6AEIKTAC#v=onepage&q=billboard%20raggadeath&f=false

alternately, If you think i should i should remove it, I will remove it and replace it with this citation i found in
https://sites.google.com/site/hiphopbibweb/Home/bibliography
which is
Leblanc, Larry. "Canada's Raggadeath on the Rise: Attic Act Fuses Hip-Hop, Rap, and Metal." Billboard 16 (April 19, 1997):64.
Would you like me to remove it, and replace it with a citation, or change it to free-use? The only purpose of inserting this document was to use it as a citation. Just trying to legitimately follow rulesWaltersobczak (talk) 01:48, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I inserted the citation :

Leblanc, Larry. "Canada's Raggadeath on the Rise: Attic Act Fuses Hip-Hop, Rap, and Metal." Billboard 16 (April 19, 1997):64.

as per your format. I also removed the document which was uploaded. Thanks for your help.Waltersobczak (talk) 02:35, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

(edit conflict) Hello! I think the best course of action would be to use an inline citation. In this case,
<ref>{{cite news |last=LeBlanc |first=Larry |date=19 April 1997 |title=Canada's Raggadeath on the Rise |work=Billboard |publisher=Nielsen Business Media, Inc. |issue=Vol. 109 No. 16 |issn=0006-2510 |page=64 |via=[[Google Books]] |url=https://books.google.ca/books?id=9w4EAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA64&ots=MVgYlEGj7V&dq=billboard%20raggadeath&pg=PA64#v=onepage&q=billboard%20raggadeath&f=false}}</ref>
would work best, as it produces a full, machine readable citation, like this.[1]
I would suggest that you remove the image from the article. It is reasonably likely that it will be deleted soon anyway, but if you want to keep it you are welcome to contest the deletion here. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me, and happy editing!

Orphaned non-free image File:Billboard magazine, April 19 1997 Raggadeath article and interview by Larry LeBlanc.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Billboard magazine, April 19 1997 Raggadeath article and interview by Larry LeBlanc.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:31, 28 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello,I removed it. It was only being used as a citation, because i could not find the article online to use as a citation. Then, I found the article online, and I used the online article as a citation with the help of AntiCompositeNumber. AntiCompositeNumber gave me the format to use the online article as a citation reference, which was very helpfulWaltersobczak (talk) 04:16, 28 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Frazier Mohawk

Hello, and welcome! I'm wondering, considering who you are, if you might have a photo you own of Frazier Mohawk? I can't say how, but I knew him and he was a nice person. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:27, 17 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
