Since 2013, I have been employed at Crowdfunder.co.uk. I’ve used my Wikipedia account in a professional capacity to add factual information to create a page for Crowdfunder.co.uk, only with supporting third party news sources. Any edits that were removed by Wikipedia editors have remained so, and I have endeavoured to make sure all my edits are factually sourced. |
Managing a conflict of interest
editHello, Wallitzio. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GermanJoe (talk) 17:16, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
Response to GermanJoe
editHi thanks for getting in touch, I had created a new page for Crowdfunder.co.uk (basing the content on the Spacehive page) and then added a note about the site to the Crowdfunding page. I do work at Crowdfunder but I had tried my best to follow what was on the Spacehive page so I didn't come across as advertising or publicising. I had tried to make sure to include lots of references to the external sites like the BBC and BuzzFeed that have talked about us on the Crowdfunder.co.uk page. There is one link to our site on there in the citations - would it be better if I took that out? Is there anything else you'd recommend I do on the Crowdfunder.co.uk article? Thanks again Wallitzio (talk) 17:27, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hello Wallitzio, if you'd like to notify other editors, you can add {{ping|user name here}} in messages before you save them. As an editor with a conflict of interest you can propose an article draft about your organization (with a disclosure), but you should avoid editing other articles to mention or link it. Please make sure to post a proper disclosure as explained in WP:COIPAYDISCLOSE and add {{subst:submit}} on top of your sandbox, when you believe it is ready for review by an uninvolved volunteer.
- The main hurdles for a new article are to find as many independent non-promotional sources as possible that provide information about your company, and to present the information in an uninvolved non-promotional tone. And then it's up to a reviewer to decide (I don't do new article reviews myself). Hope this helps a bit - I recommend to ask at WP:Teahouse if you get stuck or have any Wikipedia-related questions.
