Haha!   Just do me a favor and drop the "Regards". There is an editor at Commons who only use it (and use it often!) when they say something negative, so to me that word is starting to sound like a "four-letter curse". For as long as I can remember I've been an aficionado of Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd, which to me outshines (sorry) by far anything they did subsequently. My idea of a graphic is an inversion of their famous Dark Side of the Moon prism logo with a diamond replacing the prism. I've had a go at a graphic 145x145 pixels. Doesn't look too bad as a first attempt, could send to you as an attachment. Many userboxes have sledgehammer captions: I was thinking of just "Shine On". How does that sound? Doug butler, the biggest problem is that you can't use the cover images in any way in userboxes. If you click on the images you will see that they are Non-free media. That means they can ONLY be used in the article about them. If I used such a picture in a userbox it would be deleted. That is why people try to create pictures themselves or use alternative free images. If you have an image you have made yourself that doesn't violate any copyrights, you could upload it on Commons and post a link to it here. If the image needs some TLC, I can do that for you once it's upload. The text sounds good, where would you like to link it? What colors should the userbox and text have? I can work on this later tonight, right now I'm at work (Sweden time). cart-Talk 10:16, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
Hope this image differs enough from the prism logo to be acceptable. Not sure I'm happy with the incoming beam being dead horizontal, but the physics of it is OK. Could add some "sparkle" perhaps. Ok, here we go Doug. I made two new pictures after your directions: File:Refracting diamond 1 - shine.jpg and File:Refracting diamond 1 - SYD.jpg. I put links to them on your original drawing. The first suggestion for the userbox is now ready and it can be tweaked as much as you like. The code for the box is on this page: User:W.carter/Userbox SYD and you find the code for the transclusion here: User:W.carter/userboxes. If you open the file at User:W.carter/Userbox SYD, you can edit and play with it yourself if you like ( I have left some tips in the code for you ). Once you now have the code in place for this, I'm sure you can figure out how to change the image or the colors. The codes for web colors are here: Web colors. The size of the text is set to 14 in line | info-s = {{{info-s|14}}}, you can change that too if you like. Socken and sogne

I have written a very quick description of the Danish sogn in Parish (Denmark). My knowledge extends only to Denmark (and to some extent to Norway before 1814), but I think it is fair to day that things developed differently on the two sides of the Øresund.

I don't know if it happened generally in Sweden, but as I understand it, a large number of churches were demolished in Skåne in the late 19th century. If this was a general development in Sweden, it might explain why the socken in Sweden lost importance faster than the sogne in Denmark. In Denmark, the closure of churches is very rare and almost exclusively a city phenomonon. Besides, the civil registration issue was discussed in 1920, during the reunification process with South Jutland, when Copenhagen considered changing the Danish civil registration system to the municipalities (i.e. the Prussian system). However, such a decision was never taken, which is why South Jutland still uses a different authority for civil registration than the rest of Denmark. It was one of a very small number of laws that were not harmonized during the reunification in 1920.

Hi Valentinian, thanks for your reply. In Sweden the situation is a bit more complicated since sockens and parishes are not the same thing. Parish is for church administration and socken is for civil administration, that is why it was important to get the socken page up to speed. Not using the socken had nothing to do with the demolition of churches, sockens were simply replaced by other more modern ways of sorting the country first with stad (town) and later with kommuner (municipalities). There are some basic facts about this in Swedish municipal reforms of 1862. As of now all the sockens have become districts, also something else than parishes. In some rural parts of the country, people still keep the old way of referring to areas and it is frequently used by archeologists since it is a convenient way of talking about where finds are made. The borders of parishes have of course also undergone some change with time, but that is totally separate from sockens. I will read your article more thoroughly later and see if I can incorporate facts from it in socken. All the best, cart-Talk 20:38, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

This is Dr Sunil Kumar Verma from India. I see that you have contributed significantly on my biography article "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunil_Kumar_Verma" which is a good article category article as per the talk page of the article.

I noticed that something wired is going on on my article. Some one is adding humiliating content by false names/account which is created by someone just to add something only on my article. It is probably an attempt to defame me by someone who is affected by my professional activities. While you communicate with editors, please also inform them to refer to the article published in outlook (https://www.outlookindia.com/magazine/story/questions-in-a-petri-dish/295745). You can see that while the reporter of outlook contacted the Nobel committee, the Secretary-General of the Nobel Assembly for Physiology or Medicine, Professor Urban Lendahl made a statement that since there was no official representation from India, this matter was not pursued (see towards end of the article).

Most statements written in my bio by vandaler are wrong and unsupported. Specially the concluding one, which is humiliating too - "This matter did not receive any more attention once it was realized that artemisinin and artemisin are entirely different chemicals. However, Verma's claim that artemisinin is a variant of artemisin, caused him significant embarrassment in the scientific community". Fact is as written in outlook article cited - and also stated by Professor Urban Lendahl that the matter did not receive further attention since it was not pursued by India as a country and there was no official representation. May I request the author to either support his statements either by references or delete them.

Request to document 2015 Nobel prize controversy created by Dr Verma

Dear Carter,

Dr Verma's created a big controversy in 2015 regarding that year’s Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine by claiming the major chemical (artemisinin, for which the prize was awarded), was a minor modification of another chemical (artemisin) which was already and described by Indian Scientists a century ago. This claim was published by leading new papers of India, some of which also raised questions of impartial behaviour of the Nobel Committee - one of the newspaper (Outlook India) is provided by Dr Verma above. If you go through this article, you will find that it has clearly quoted Dr Verma's statements on the matter and provide adequate evidence.

I strongly feel that this significant matter should be added to Dr Verma's Wikipedia page as it is an important part of this scientific endeavours. If this is not appropriate for whatever reason, I propose that a separate Wikipedia page describing the whole controversy should be created as there is enough verified/published references in this matter.

Dr Verma's statement is true that this ID was created just for this edit as I don't want to reveal my identity for various reasons. I look forward to hear from you for the next line of action so this controversy could be documented in Wikipedia.

Hi Amrev, if there was a controversy, it could be included in the article but in a neutral and encyclopedic way. Any such "hot" material should not be included by any of the parties involved in the controversy in any way, in this case it also applies to Dr Verma. This rule: Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, exist to ensure that the text is properly checked for facts and written in a neutral way. If you are involved in it, it is almost impossible for you to remain totally impartial.
The problem here is that the creator of this article is no longer active on Wikipedia and I have no real knowledge about the subject. My area of expertise is language, article form, encyclopedic style and layout. It was my job to refine these aspects of the article in the work to get it to good article, that is why my name appears so often in the later history of the article.
I suggest you try to get hold of an experienced editor who is familiar with the subject to help you with a draft of the text you want to add. You can ask at The Teahouse, a place where new editors can ask for advice and get help with things like this. Additionally, if you look at the top of your screen, you will find a link to your own private "Sandbox". That is the area where you can prepare text before adding it to an article. Title: 2015 Controversy (Not sure what should be the title)

In 2015, Verma actively criticised the basis of this years Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine award to Tu Youyou for the discovery of the chemical artemisinin and her work on malaria (news website references). Artemisinin is an active compound present in a medicinal plant called Artemisia annua that is used for curing malaria. In his social media post (Referenced either directly to the facebook post or the newspapers which mention the social media post], Verma claimed artemisinin was a variant of artemisin that was already known to Indian scientific community (again news website references). To substantiate his claims, Verma provided a snapshot of an article from a book, "Indian Medicinal Plants" published in 1918 by Lieutenant Colonel K. R. Kirtikar and Major B. D. Basu (reference to the book and/or snapshots of the pages and reference to the news web sites). The book clearly described the use of "artemisin" in India to cure intermittent and remittent fever (the common phrase for used for malarial fever till 1880).

The controversy resulting from Verma's claims was published in many news papers (newspaper referenced to the articles). According to Outlook India's article, "Questions In A Petri Dish: The Nobel for medicine has gone to a Chinese researcher. Has the work of Indian scientists been overlooked" (reference), Verma stated “If a minor variant of a well-known compound extracted from a plant found around the world can be given the Nobel, poorer countries will be the losers, as scientists from technologically advanced societies can always find plants with similar chemical compounds elsewhere and extract the ingredient from them. Communities with traditional cures will lose out”.

The controversy abruptly ended when in contrast to Verma's claims, it was realised that artemisinin is not a minor variant of artemisin and the two are entirely different chemicals (a figure with chemical strctures and their International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry names will be added and referenced. Please also note that artemisinin already has an article in wikipedia while artemisin will be linked to US's National Library of Medicine).

All I can see from this is that the text is far too long and detailed, it is unreferenced, not encyclopedic in style and sounds more like some personal vendetta. Hello Usernameunique, that is very kind of you. :) I'm not going to take the article to DYK tough. I'm just seeing if I can finish up my very long project of making articles (or putting into context) all the geographical features on Gotland. Almost there. Since I know the archeologists who made the 2011 real excavation, it was nice to be able to write something about the mask. I'm not sure the earlier Odin hypothesis about the mask is relevant anymore sínce they found the missing eye during the 2011 excavation and the mask is no longer one-eyed. I remember how exited they were over the find. There are photos in the refs of both eyes [1] [2]. I might add some more to that section. Cheers, cart-Talk 20:23, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Yes, looks like you're making good progress. Looking forward to seeing it completed, and to Vallstena in particular. Some people do think the mask is still significant, including Price & Mortimer, who suggest that the recently discovered eye was removed and buried in the house ("Conservator Magnus Mårtensson (Personal Communication, 2011) has observed no tool marks on the rivets, and has therefore speculated that it may well have fallen out due to corrosion, or when the mask was first dug up by the detectorist. In our opinion, and that of the excavator, the singular fact that only the eye was found more likely suggests that it was deliberately removed. The obvious inference is that the ‘eyeless’ Roman mask had been given two new eyes, presumably after its arrival in Sweden. After this was done, one of the eyes had then been removed, making the mask one-eyed. The relative sequence is impossible to determine, but it seems likely that the mask was nailed to the roof-supporting post in the Hellvi building and the extracted eye buried in the floor below (Figure 12). It is probably not coincidental that the post chosen was directly in front of a wall cache containing valuable and possibly ritual objects.") The British Museum's curator of the European Early Medieval Collections also brought up this mask specifically when I spoke to her about the topic this summer, and seemed to think that it, more so than some other examples of individual eyes (e.g., the Gevninge helmet fragment and the Uppåkra helmet fragment), supported the idea that eyes were intentionally modified (she found the specific reason for the modifications less clear). --Usernameunique (talk) 23:30, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
@Usernameunique: That sounds like a very interesting and plausible hypothesis. I'm no archaeologist or historian but since I lived on Gotland for nearly three decades, I somehow soaked up its history and general knowledge about the place. At first I just did major articles like Visby City Wall, Spillings Hoard, Havor Hoard, Bulverket, Lummelunda Cave and such. But since Gotland has (and still do) interacted with so many other cultures and countries, I soon found names of places and events realted to the island popping up in the most unlikely places. I mean, who'd have thought that I would be able to put together List of Gotland-related asteroids! So I decided to at least provide some kind of "infrastructure" with small articles for the island; articles that can be expanded later by me or others. Admittedly, it is sometimes hard not to add "just a little bit more" when you are writing about places like Mästerby, Gnisvärd or Tofta. :) It is a rewarding job, since I get small 'pings' rather frequently when some article has been linked to one in the Gotland bunch. Du tycks ha missuppfattat vad socken i Sverige är och var distrikt är. Du har i wikidata felaktigt angivit att distrikt ersätter socknar det stämmer inte alls. Du har också i artiklar om tex gammelgarn skrivit helt tokigt och blandat ort med socken.Yger (talk) 12:56, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Hej Yger, tack för att du hörde av dig. Nej, jag har inte missuppfattat vad skillnaden på distrikt och socken är. På Gotland är det dock så att distrikten har samma geografiska utsträckning som de gamla socknarna, så det är endast den administrativa benämningen som har ändrats. Se t ex på Gammelgarns sockens svenska artikel där det står "Gammelgarns socken ingick i Gotlands norra härad, ingår sedan 1971 i Gotlands kommun och motsvarar från 2016 Gammelgarns distrikt." Kanske det är ordet "reconstitute" som du hänger upp dig på. Det innebär ju att socknen försvann och att platsen istället går under beteckningen distrikt. Området är ju exakt detsamma men benämningen på det har ändrats. Vad gäller de olika platser som benämns med samma namn, som till exempel Hablingbo så har ju svenska wiki separata artiklar för alla de olika begeppen med det namnet (socken, kyrkby, distrikt, församling, landskommun). Denna uppdelning är dock för detaljerad när det gäller engelska wiki. Jag valde därför att ge artiklarna det övergipande namnet som då är socknens och i den artikeln även förklara vilka de andra användningarna också kan vara. På det sättet kan senare artiklar knoppas av ifall någon vill översätta samtliga de olika betydelserna till engelska. Genom att endast använda det gemensamma övegripande namnet, så följer jag även det språkbruk som används på Gotland. Jag har bott där i omkrng 30 år och är mycket väl insatt i stället.
Eventuellt kan det ju vara på sin plats att förklara ombildningen från socken till distrikt i artiklarna och jag tar gärna emot förslag på hur detta kan göras.
Vad gäller ditt exempel Gammelgarn så ser jag ingen sammanblandning där mellan socken och kyrkby/ort eftersom det inte finns någon kyrkby där. Gammelgarn är endast namnet på det större området. Yger, jag kollade igenom några av de andra artiklarna och ser att i vissa som kom till innan jag började jobba med det här projektet, som t ex Västerhejde, så är faktiskt småorten och socknen hopblandade. Nej du har fel (och det är jag som skrivit all dessa artiklar på svwp). Socknen användes för att registrera fastigheter i och gjorde så till perioden 1968-1990. Fornminne har registrerats per socken och gör så fortsatt (samma med hembygds och museisaker). Lantmäteriet håller fotsatt ordning på socknarna, ingen ändring 2016. Befolkningsrapportering skedde fram till 2016 per församling . 2016 skapades det abstrakta begreppet distrikt av SCB, för att användas för befolkningsrapportering. Så socken finns fortsatt och distrikten är enbart en forsättning av en aspekt av församlingarna. Att de sedan täcker samma område är värt nämna. Socknarna finns kvar och distrikten är inte en efterföljare till socknar (som inte upphört). Jag är just på väg stötta en användare i Visby (VisbyStar) som vill jobba med hembygdsfolk på Gotland runt Gotland socknar. Kanske du är intresserad vara med?Yger (talk) 13:57, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
Yger: Aha, då förstår jag vad du menar. Jag vet ju att arkeologer fortsatt använder sockenindelningen men trodde det var mer av tradition än att de faktiskt fanns kvar, även om man på Gotland ju är väldigt glad i att använda ordet socken istället för distrikt. Jag ska se till att rensa upp bland artiklarna (och wikidata) och göra dom mer korrekta men samtidigt begripliga för alla engelsktalande som blir förvirrade av att vi har samma namn på så många olika saker. Det kan dock ta lite tid eftersom det är många sidor att fixa, så du får ha lite tålamod. Det ska bli bra till slut. Mitt största problem här på eng-wiki är ju annars att reda upp skillnaden mellan församling och socken. Många ersätter hej vilt socken med "parish". Tack för din inbjudan, men just nu har jag tillräckligt med jobb att fixa klart och reda ut det här lilla projektet. Jag har sett 'Visby Star', eller snarare det användarnamn han hade tidigare, och hans bilder på Commons där jag också är mycket aktiv (Min sida). Jag bor dessutom numera i Lysekil, men vill ändå se till att alla platser på Gotland får ett omnämnande här på den engelska internationella avdelningen. Hello W.carter,

I'm kind of back and did some editing in some articles. Also, I found several incomplete and problematic areas in the article Joanna Angelett (I noted, that the article has been even placed in the “Category:Articles containing potentially dated statements from 2017”), and tried to fix it in the best possible way, and corrected dead links as well. About two and a half months ago I sent an email to Angelett Gallery with request to supply me with the photos, that illustrates an important event, mentioned in the text — the presentation of the internationally recognized project Tree of Life by Angelett to the Governor of Australia in Canberra, and the photos of some works, which also have been mentioned in the article, and today I received two requested photos and tried to fit them into the corresponded sections. I hope that all is done reasonably well.

Hi Chris The text and references look ok to me. The photos could be a bit better placed. It's not necessary to have them exactly where they are mentioned in the text, they just need to be nearby It is more important to place them so the layout doesn't disturb the section or so you don't get text "sandwiched" between two photos (see MOS:SANDWICH. Hi, I found your picture of an old jetty at Brofjorden and liked it enormously. So much so that, seeing you had released it free of copyright for commercial use, I have used it on the cover of a novel I have written, "At Maunston Quay". On the inside front cover I have given you full credit for the image. I hope you are cool with that. Indie published, the sales are very low unfortunately!
