How I knew to welcome you

edit

Hi Volume1,

I have some of the articles that you edited on my watchlist. Whenever I see edits, I check who made them. I figured you must be new, because you didn't have any posts on your talk page (the link to your talk page was red on my watchlist entry). I also noticed that we seem to share some academic interests. What is your line of work?

By the way, when you edit an article that you know something about, do you click on the "watch" tab? It's a good habit. Any time you log into WP, you can go straight to your watchlist, and see what has changed before moving on. One thing that makes this process a lot faster is the popups tool. Not only do you get to hover over a diff link in your watchlist (or anywhere else) and get an update on what has changed, you also get a brilliant tool to verify links while writing! Just make a link, highlight it with your mouse, and you get to see the first paragraph of the page you'd be linking to, or if the link isn't specific enough, you get a list of pages you might want to link to instead! It's pretty cool over a dialup link, but if you're on a fast line (for example a LAN or a cable modem), it's like having super powers.

Enough with the popup plug. Happy editing. I'll go back to writing my thesis... ;-)

Oh, neat. Yeah, I'm pretty new, although I've edited a bit with my IP before getting an account. I'm not an academic or a scientist, I'm an executive assistant at Ag Canada. I do know about watchlists, but the popups thing is really interesting. I'm not sure I understand it, but I'll read more from your link. I really appreciate the welcome. My time is limited, but I'm going to be copyediting and adding info to a lot of micronutrient pages, so I guess we'll be coming across each other some more. And please, correct/update me if you notice anything not cool. I made a mistake a couple of days ago by adding something without not reading carefully enough, I'm off to thank the editor who caught it. What do you do? I guess I should go check your userpage before asking, lol. Only answer if it's not there. :-)) Volume1 05:13, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
