I wasn't aware that Orkut required invitations to participate, but I think I am likely to give up using it entirely because it now requires a Google Account to log in, and I don't want to get a Google Account. Schoen 02:11, 1 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I think the Gmail account will let you join Orkut -- but in any case, I probably can't help you because I can't log into my account without creating a Google Account. Perhaps you could try posting on Craigslist. Schoen 06:54, 1 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Since you have experience editing in the contentious Israel/Palestine articles, you may be interested in Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ramallite. The candidacy is a close one, and I believe you are familiar with Ramallite, who has broad support from across the spectrum of POVs. Your input would be valuable. --MPerel ( talk | contrib) 21:02, 4 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Merely being born in France doesn't make one either ethnically French or of French nationality; the former is a matter of one's parentage, the latter is a legal issue. Please don't populate small categories with these dubious cases, esepcially if the objective is to make a category at CfD appear more useful and important than it actually is. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 18:11, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

The categories is not about genetics. Asians born in the US are Asian-Americans, even when no genetic change has occurred. "Please don't populate small categories with these dubious cases, esepcially if the objective is to make a category at CfD appear more useful and important than it actually is"... wikipedia:assume good faith --Vizcarra 18:15, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
But the "Americans" part concerns the legal matter of nationality; being born in most countries, however, doesn't automatically make one a citizen (and I believe that this is true of France). Moreover, having what seems to be at most one grandparent of a certain nationality surely isn't enough (some of the se people would have to come under four categories just to cover their supposed ethnicity).
I did say "if", but I apologise anyway. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 18:56, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Well, if the cases are dubious, challenge them. So that the other party may provide proof of, in this case, French ancestry. "[H]aving ... most one grandparent of a certain nationality surely isn't enough". Well, that is a POV, isn't it? --Vizcarra 19:01, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

A Question...

edit

Should we add a category for Spanish Mexicans? I mean, i know most Mexicans have Spanish blood but we can do it like the others; only consider them if they're born in or have family (only as far as grandparents) that was born in Spain if them and most of their family was born in Mexico. You get what i mean right? I hope so... Well, There's also a category for Italian-Argentines and we all know that most of them have Italian blood. >>> Sagitario 04:04, 15 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

How is she considered a Mexican-American actress and not a Mexican actress? I mean, of course she was born in the United States but has she done any acting there? Was she raised there? I would consider her a Mexican, but not Mexican-American, unless she has Mexican parents but that is not stated. Her father is a German-American and her mother could be anything for all we know. So she would be considered an American-Mexican, not a Mexican-American. >>> Sagitario 18:11, 21 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

In that case, she sould only be in the categories; Mexican actors (because she was raised in Mexico, where she also began her career) and American actors (because she was born in the US). I think the whole "Mexican American actors, singers, artists, etc." categories are not needed. You don't see categories like those on Italian Americans, French Americans, etc. In fact, no matter what the occupation of the person is, they're all categorized in the same category. Category:Italian-Americans includes singers, actors, artists, politicians, etc. There's no need for those special categories in my opinion. >>> Sagitario 18:45, 21 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Galician-Mexicans, Basque Mexicans, and Catalonian-Mexicans? Don't you think that's a little too much? We all know that those are regions in Spain so why not just categorize them under Spanish Mexicans? What's Next? Castillian-Mexicans? or even Roman and Sicilian-Mexicans? >>> Sagitario 02:31, 22 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Why do you keep creating these un-needed categories? It's not like they'll ever be filled enough to be considered "categories". Just categorize those people in Spanish Mexicans. You might as well just quit, they'll probably be nominated for deletion soon anyway. >>> Sagitario 21:55, 22 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Well, i DO consider them un-needed (and exagerated), as well as some other other "Mexican American actors" etc. categories. I'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks this, and you're not the only one who edits here so don't get mad if i make a few changes to your articles/categories. I've noticed you're really active in Wikipedia and I'm new here. I've contributed to some articles and would really appreciate your input on any of the subjects that might interest you:

  • 1. Desafuero. I put some comments on the discussion page.
  • 2. Carlos Salinas. Made some heavy edits: contributed to the discussion on the December Mistakes, added references to other Salinas controversies, etc.
  • 3. TV Azteca. Added a section on the Privatization and related scandal.
  • 4. Cantinflas. Minor miscellaneous changes.
  • 5. Cronopio. Created stub article for these fictional creatures in Julio Cortazar's work.
  • 6. Placebo. Changed structure of the entry, added sections, etc.
