Hindi edit

Hi. I'm Manoj. I was not an active wikipedian till a month ago I noted Hindi as categorised in 1lakh+ while many languages spoken in small regions are in 10lakh+. While updating my member page today I noted that you're only member, now besides me, in en-hi translator category. I went through your bio-data also and am impressed. Hindi wiki is in a dire need of experienced wikipedians. Hope to see you there soon. Regards. --Manojkhurana (talk) 07:00, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Manoj! I'm glad to hear that you have taken upon the task of contributing to this humongous source of Knowledge. I feel the same way as you do. Hindi Wikipedia is in a dire need of expansion when compared to other languages relative to their number of speakers. Since, I'm a student I find very less time now to be active constantly on Wikipedia. However, now that you have approached me, kindly let me know how I can be of any help. If you have any plans or ideas do share.
It would be even better if you try to contact other active Indian Wikipedians through their this page WP:INCOTM. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  11:44, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi Vivek, it was too quick a reply from a "Semi-Retired" person, but honestly, I was expecting this, keeping in view your profile and my assessment of the same. It's really good to receive a fast response. Coming back to the point, I'm BIT Mesra MBA of 1996-98 batch, currently employed as a banker, entangled in recession and resulting pressures running for last 5 years, targets, touring & what not. Laying claims on my time are also my family members including 2 kids who hate to see me sitting at laptop. I'm a wiki lover since beginning, but I haven't contributed much. I don't know how or why, maybe time or destiny has it, a few days ago I happened to have a look at Hindi version. You know, I shouldn't say this, but I felt 'insulted', 'ashamed' to see Hindi placed alongwith languages like hrvatski, eesti, volapuk and what not! As if this was not enough- Polski,Svenska were in 10lakh+ category! Can you guess, out of 1 billion people, how many active(10+edits in 30 days)contributors are there- hold your breath- 39. 100+ edits-15, Admins-4, beurocrats-none, steward-none.
I felt like I had a moral obligation and despite all my engagements,On 19 Aug, I joined in. Count of articles was 106766, today morning it was 107821, approx 1000 new pages per month. At this speed It is a long long task to take it to 10 lakh+ category. But I do my bit. I have learned to type hindi using phonetic/transliteration. I try to finish my work early & spend 1-2 hours daily on wiki. I am probably the first ever person to edit Hindi wiki and create a new page(only 2days ago) using Android & Google hindi input for android. I don't know for how long will I be able to cope-up compromising with my mainstream work, but let's wait n watch.
My viewpoint is that 1. Spreading awareness and involving more and more people is much more required at this moment. 2. Support & involvement of student class is a must. 3. Whatever Hindi wiki is today, engineers have contributed a lot(you'll come to know when u see history)they are technically equipped, knowledgable and mentally strong people. Though there are literature people also on hindi wiki, but you know they write upanyaas only.
How you may help - 1.you may invite a few of your friends first. 2.I do hope you might use automation or some technical jugglery to mass convert(or atleast fast convert) pages from english to hindi. 3.Good & experienced Admins are very very badly required at Hindi wiki. If you do not have much time, you may occasionally help in admining. 4. Regarding plans or ideas-I had many for myself when I joined, but now weherever I click, I find it needs work. There is 'nothing' on hindi wiki, you can do 'anything'. Just come over and start. Regards--Manojkhurana (talk) 14:34, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi. Sorry for late reply as I have my exams going on. I understand what you are trying to say. But as you say, the number of articles in Hindi Wikipedia is really quite less when compared to other languages. However, if it would take a really long time to perform this task manually. I would like to tell you something about Wikipedia automated bots which are used for performing large volume of work (repetitive) in a faster way. What I was thinking of, is to create an automated bot with assistance of you and others which would perform a basic translation of English articles into Hindi. However, the work would still be unfinished as this translation won't be full proof. A considerable amount of manual work would be required as well. Let us hope that more and more people would join us as the time proceeds. I would like to have your views on this plan. If it doesn't work out, what we could do is to start manual translation of most popular English articles which aren't available in Hindi. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  12:22, 28 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for February 25 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pari Mahal, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mughal (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Better source request for File:Sumati morarjee.jpg edit

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:50, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Stan! I understand your concern. But as indicated previously in the details for this image, based on the facts the image appears to have been published prior to 1941, which thereby places the image in the public domain. However, I have no hard facts to establish my claim and they are just based on the indication of data. Moreover there are no other sources present which can ascertain to this fact. I would therefore like to request you to consider the already present idea or come up with an alternative fair use image status that would let us use the image on Wikipedia. I had tried my best to search for other available sources (according to Wikipedia guidelines). Thanks VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  05:14, 12 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Special thanks for marking my article Rajwansher railway station as patrolled even when it was not complete at that moment. Thanks Night Fury (talk) 01:35, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

You can make the article more complete by adding few railway templates, and adding more information. For references I'd recommend you to use ProveIt tool. It's easy and fun. VIVEK RAI :  Friend?  04:59, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews edit

Hello Vivek Rai. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of K.C. Das Grandsons edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on K.C. Das Grandsons, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
