Welcome from Ravedave edit

Welcome!

1st off, hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome. -Ravedave 20:07, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Blown Out Highlights edit

Blown out highlights are area's that are overexposed, hence beign very bright white with no contrast. See Wikipedia:What is a featured picture? for an example (at the bottom). I also added a section on them to exposure. With the camera you have it is going to be hard to get outdoors shots without problems (unless you play around with exposure in manual mode). -Ravedave 20:07, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh and getting focus on different levels of the picture is known as Depth of field -Ravedave 20:08, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

This week Futurama was selected to be improved to featured article status.
Hope you can help…

Atlantis launch plume picture edit

I think it did have consensus to promote. I agree with you that it was a close call, and having all those different versions makes it a bit confusing, but Fir's edit seemed popular enough for me to promote it. Raven4x4x 04:59, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gold Bullion FPC edit

I notice your comment on the Gold Bullion FPC, where you opposed because the image is copyrighted. It is true that the image is copyrighted, but the tag says that the copyright holder has allowed it to be used for 'any purpose'. This means we are perfectly able to use it as a featured picture. I know copyrights can be complicated, and it's good that you shared your concern about the image's license, but images with this tag are fine to use as FPs. Raven4x4x 04:51, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hummingbird Hawk-moth FPC edit

Hi! You supported the Hummingbird Hawk-moth FPC (like everyone else who commented), but HighInBC uploaded an edit that absolutely no-one commented on. I can't promote the image without knowing which version to promote, so now I have to ask everyone which version they prefer. Would you mind specifying which image you are supporting? Thanks. FPC edit

When adding an FPC please make sure to copy the whole template. The bottom section has a template {{-}} that makes the pictures lay out correctly. Also please make sure to include *why* you like it and where the picture is used. -Ravedave 01:58, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pi Unrolled edit

You commented on this animated GIF's Featured Picture nomination. I'm considering a redesign to incorporate concerns raised but I need more clarity. Please see User talk:John Reid/Pi/Unrolled#FP?. Thank you. John Reid 08:44, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I recently cranked out a new and greatly improved version of Pi-unrolled.gif and (why not?) nominated it for FP. Since you commented on the nomination of the previous version of the same graphic, I'd like to invite you to comment on the new nomination. Thank you. John Reid 04:23, 6 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
