Disambiguation link notification for April 2 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited ICC World Twenty20, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Wanderers, Kingsmead and Newlands (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Vikram maingi. All or some of your addition(s) to Cayman Islands Cricket Association has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 01:34, 12 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Fiji women's national cricket team edit

Hi, I've noticed you recently created an article about the Fiji women's national cricket team. It appears you've copied almost all of the content from the Fiji national cricket team article. There is no information about the women's team in the article, other than the fact that it exists. This is bad, as it means readers will not get any information about the topic they're looking for. If you're unable to find information about a topic, it is better not to create an article, rather than to create an article that is uninformative. Thanks, IgnorantArmies (talk) 14:53, 13 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

English cricket team in the West Indies in 2016–17 edit

Hi. You moved this page on the rationale of "There are links on other pages to the new name of the page". In these cases, just simply create the redirects to the existing article. I've moved the page back. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 12:48, 17 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Cricket notability edit

Hi. Please read WP:NCRIC before creating anymore cricket biographies. An individual must have played in at least one first-class or List A game first. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 08:47, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

And do not remove the prod tag from a non-notable article. This can be viewed as being disruptive and can lead to you being blocked. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 07:19, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Again, please read this. You're recent articles do not meet the notability requirements. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:11, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Lugnuts

Does this mean that I won't be allowed to create pages on Cricket Players. I think it would be beneficial if everyone is allowed to create the page and experienced administrators can review to ensure that no false/unsourced information is shared on the page.

I really want the articles to be moved back and need your help on this. Please provide help in sorting this issue.

Thanks, Vikram Maingi (talk) 08:45, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Once they meet the notability requirements for cricketers, then they'll be fine. Until then, they'll need to have played in at least on FC, LA or T20 match. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:49, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Adding reference sections, etc. edit

Hi Vikram maingi. You seem to be making a number edits to cricket team articles which include adding/moving reference sections. Please be advised that per MOS:ORDER, "References" sections should come before "External link" sections and after "See also" sections. You should also be careful not to accidentally delete the "reflist/references" template/syntax like you did here because without either the template or syntax the references will not be formatted correctly in the proper section of the article, but will instead be pushed to the bottom of the page. I corrected one of your edits here, but I suggest you go back a check over the rest of your edits and make the appropriate fixes yourself so that others do not have to take the time to do so. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:04, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi MarchJuly,

This will be taken care of. Infact, I will ensure that necessary corrections are also done to put "References" sections before "External link" sections and after "See also" sections. Cheers, Vikram maingi (talk) 06:14, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Fred Huish and dates edit

Hello. You've clearly not read my edit summary when I reverted your edit to the Fred Huish article. You're inserting a single date in the article. This is clearly incorrect - the match lasted all three days and Huish took dismissals on the first and third day. To place a single date in the article isn't correct. To be honest, it's fine with either 1911 or, if you insist, August 1911 given the detail in the rest of the article. Thanks - but please do read edit summaries. Blue Square Thing (talk) 12:01, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello Blue Square Thing, As suggested by you, I will change it to August 2011. Thank you for your inputs.

August 2016 edit

Your addition to Tanzania Hockey Association has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. This is your final warning. Further copyright violations will result in you being blocked from editing. Diannaa (talk) 16:59, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Under the terms of the Berne Convention, literary works are subject to copyright whether they are tagged as such or not. No registration is required, and no copyright notice is required. So please always assume that all material you find online is copyright. — Diannaa (talk) 04:21, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello Dianna,

Thank you for a prompt response. I went through the Berne Convention page and this improved my understanding on copyrighting to some extent.

But this created a few queries:

  1. Does this mean that we cannot pick any information published by any News company, like BBC, CNN, Times of India etc.
  2. If we do not pick any information from such sites, how do we update the pages? I have been informed that any information without the source details that we put on Wiki pages can be removed

Thanks, Vikram Maingi (talk) 04:30, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi, to answer your questions, you can absolutely use those sources for the ideas and concepts you want to add, just not for the actual words. The best approach is to read the sources, understand and digest them, then write the article text in your own words. The concept you may have seen in Berne was: ideas can't be copyrighted, but sentences can. CrowCaw 19:00, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

These will inevitably change, so won't support "first person to do x" type figures, and more importantly comes across as OR" Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 15:09, 9 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate your hard work on Cricket related pages but I slightly disagree over here.

An ODI loss by a nation (only one) that could win its first two ODIs is not a trivia. It is certainly worth mentioning.

Secondly, the dynamic stats page will have all the match entries chronologically. Any update in the page, will never update the existing match records. Only new ones will be added below in the stack. Kindly re-check the source.

November 2016 edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Papua New Guinean cricket team in Hong Kong in 2016–17. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Muffled Pocketed 15:13, 9 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

I am pretty new to Wikipedia. Apologies if I have missed any protocol.

One candid question: Lugnuts was the one who undid my edits. I was just rolling-back his undoings. So, why such message has been posted only on my user page and not on his.

The information that has provided is correct and has even been sourced statistically, albeit categorical english statement is missing from the source. I would request another user (of similar interest in the subject) to evaluate the importance of the information and vet the source as well. Till then, let it not reflect on the page.

Thanks and Regards, Vikram Maingi (talk) 15:26, 9 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Rajinder Kale edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Rajinder Kale requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Proposed deletion of Vanuatu Hockey Federation edit

Hello, Vikram maingi. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Vanuatu Hockey Federation, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

January 2017 edit

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Pakistani cricket team in Australia in 2016–17, without citing a reliable source using an inline citation that clearly supports the material. The burden is on the person wishing to keep in the material to meet these requirements, as a necessary (but not necessarily sufficient) condition. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you.

Ok.

But can I use certain information that is evident with the help of ESPN Cricinfo Stats Guru (after using certain filters)?
