April 2013 edit

Hello, I'm Puffin. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Jim Balsillie without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry: I restored the removed content. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Puffin Let's talk! 20:37, 4 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Jim Balsillie edit

In addition to the note above, please bear in mind Wikipedia's policy on maintaining a neutral point of view. Many of your recent additions were full of "peacock terms" designed to promote the individual in question. I have reverted these changes, but please feel free to try again in a neutral tone. Additionally, I wanted to note here that the high res image you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons has been marked for deletion because it is obviously not a free use image since the copyright is owned by Blackberry. In order to use a higher resolution image, you will have to provide one that is certainly free for use, either because it is in the public domain or because its creator/copyright owner has explicitly released it to a compatible license. Thank you, Resolute 19:12, 1 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Among the phrasing that I found problematic is "Jim Balsillie is a generous philanthropist..." Terms like "generous" give that promotional tone. As bland as it may be, I would consider wording like "Among Balsillie's philanthropic efforts..."
Also, this entire paragraph: "Research In Motion (RIM), a global leader in wireless innovation, revolutionized the mobile industry with the introduction of the BlackBerry solution in 1999. Since then, BlackBerry products and services have continued to change the way millions of people around the world stay connected. Research In Motion now operates globally under the iconic name BlackBerry. The BlackBerry product line includes the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet, award-winning BlackBerry® smartphones, software for businesses and accessories." That looks like it was copied straight out of RIM's promotional guides. If it was, it is a copyright violation that can't be kept any way, but even if not, it is far too promotional.
If I may ask, are you affiliated with RIM/Blackberry or Balsillie? If you are, please bear in mind our guidelines regarding conflicts of interest. That would not disqualify you from editing the article, but it will result in a little higher scrutiny. Thanks, Resolute 16:59, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
