your warning
Yes, the wording was appropriate. As you see, it is often useful in such as situation to look at everything else the contributer has submitted, with an eye to the sort of writing that is a copyright violation. You will see from my note on her p. that, although I could have immediately deleted the articles, I held back a little to permit them to be rewritten. If there is no response by the end of the day, which I think likely, I will stubbify or rewrite them. Which one I choose depends of how notable the subject is, and whether I myself am willing to rewrite if necessary. It is unlikely that any permission to use the material is or will be knowingly granted according to our license--museums are very hesitant to give a license permitting commercial use. The repeated reversion of the redirect, the entry of the same text under different titles, the use of excessive external links to related more notable institutions, and the blatant & repeated copyright violations, are signs of refusal to cooperate. Many admins would have already blocked her. I'll follow up on this. DGG (talk) 16:15, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Gay Galifianakis?
Vicenarian - I do not believe this edit is unconstructive, although your opinion clearly differs. This is actually a very relevant piece of information to be added to his wiki page. Note that I did not STATE that he was gay/bisexual, since it is not a known fact... however... the fact of what was said during his stay at The Tonight Show IS fact. ...and based upon that, along with other various self-suggestive Gay/Bisexual comments made on prior occasions by Galifianakis, a great amount of speculation has risen among fans and industry companions. That specualtion IS real.. and therefore a fact. So, I have stated nohting but fact in my edit. Also, to say such an edit is unconstructive is preposterous. Personal life, on Wikipedia... in many, many cases contains information about sexuality. Especially when it comes to highly public figures such as actors, musicians and comedians. It is quite unfair to say that this is not relevant information. Also, on another note... there has been specualtion that Galifianakis is set to make a public statement in 2009 regarding his sexuality. A fact which I could have included, but did not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.20.131.39 (talk • contribs)
- Speculation doesn't cut it for a biography or most anything on Wikipedia. Cite a reliable source or the content will be removed. Thank you. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 03:35, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Again, I'm not specualting on fact. The *fact* I stated was that specualtion has arisen... and the other fact I stated was of what was actually said. So... if I were to site a link to that episode, or even further, specific segment of Conan O'Brien... that should suffice, correct? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.20.131.39 (talk) 03:38, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- No, you would need to cite a source that speculated on his sexuality or commented on the speculation, not some joke he made on Conan; otherwise, this is considered original research. And even if you were to cite a source, I still think it would be considered a violation of Wikipedia's biography policy. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 03:41, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Correct. Since sexuality is a "hot button" issue to some, you would have to provide a link to a WP:RS stating your claim. →javért stargaze 03:44, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah. Also, it seems to me that the logic "I made a homoerotic joke, therefore I am gay" is fallacious. But that's beside the point. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 21:25, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Deleted offending material as requested from User:Penright/Triumph Of Truth (Who Is Watching The Watchers?)
Have deleted offending material as you all requested from User:Penright/Triumph Of Truth (Who Is Watching The Watchers?) according to Wikipedia rules that you have pointed out about not appearing to attach any living person or organisation on in a Wikipedia article. Please would you all be so kind to review your individual "to keep" or "to delete" decisions in the light of the revised edit on this article, many thanks again for all your contribution, thoughts, advice and guidance as you all have a lot more experience at this than IPenright (talk) 22:21, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Penright (talk) 23:30, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Penright (talk) 23:49, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Penright (talk) 23:55, 3 August 2009 (UTC)Penright (talk) 00:16, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

- Never fear, I'm still going to review both articles, most likely this weekend. I usually let an article sit for about a week after I put my review stamp on it, to let others comment and to watch to see if it undergoes any major changes. These will be a little delayed due to IRL issues. Thanks for your patience! Cheers, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 22:08, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

George School
Hi! You recently posted a refimprove and a tooshort tag on the George School page. I've expanded the opening para per guidelines. Probably needs some work, but I thought it was good enough to remove the tooshort tag. I'm wondering about the refimprove tag, though. Would you mind sharing on the discussion page where you think more references are needed? Many of the sections are pretty heavily referenced already, to my eye: the history and school programs pages in particular. It's certainly something I've had an eye on for some time now. Are you looking for a wider variety of sources (good luck, the school does not have a ton of external sources), or a minimum of a certain number of sources per section? Some guidelines would be helpful. Thanks!--Natcase (talk) 04:43, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hello! I'd be happy to read through the page thoroughly and do a sort of "GA review" (which they tell me I'm good at) on the talk page. (I'm thinking of changing my username to something like ZZZZ because I suspect I get a lot of questions by people who access an alphabetical list of admins and say, "Oh, that name looks interesting" at the top of the list.) Incidentally, if you ever apply for the mop, I would not regard it as a breach of protocol if you were to let me know; I don't usually follow RFAs and won't contribute unless it's someone with whose work I'm familiar, but it would take a stroke of luck for me to notice an RFA in progress. - Nope, no imaginings. I played revert ping-pong with him (with Triplestop backing me up) for about ten minutes. Definitely him, though. He referenced a comment I made at the Russian Wikipedia, during the whole flap over the Russian WP admin there that was helping him by proxy. I know we're not supposed to insult the vandals, or feed the trolls, but I just couldn't resist this:
- Вы можете запустить, но вы не можете спрятать.
- (See Google Translate for assistance if, like me, you don't actually read, write or speak Russian.)
Neutralhomer declines mediation
You and I asked for mediation about WP:TVS allowing non-notable people who have left TV stations to use those Wiki articles for their subsequent bios. This was accepted [1]. On August 13, Neutralhomer deleted the mediation invitation from his talk page without response. [2] Since a quite large number of articles are involved, I'd like to pursue Neutralhomer treating WP:TVS as having higher authority than Wiki guidelines in WP:COATRACK, WP:BIO, WP:V, WP:NOTINHERITED, WP:DIRECTORY.
Next step?
Best Regards, Piano non troppo (talk) 11:15, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Tell truth, I'm not exactly sure. The arbitrators won't hear content disputes. Even formal mediation only works if all involved parties are willing to participate.
- What we really need, ideally, is a wider audience to hear our arguments, outside the narrow boundaries of WP:TVS. We need to establish the consensus of the community as a whole, not just the WikiProject. The RfC was supposed to accomplish that, but not enough people noticed it. Maybe a posting to Wikipedia:Content noticeboard would expose the issue to a wider audience. Since it's also a WP:BLP issue, the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard may also be appropriate. Either way, we need to get eyes on it from as many outside observers as possible.

George School (revived from archive)
However, it's a time- and concentration-intensive effort for me, and I already have a few I've promised to do, so it may be a bit. Seems like you got a handle on the lede, though. Any chance for an image or two? Vicenarian (Said · Done) 05:16, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry it took so long to get back to you... I been pulling very long work shifts, wikipedia kinda takes a back burner. Answering your questions: Yes, a review would be great, if/when you can get to it. Images would be nice. Don't know when I'll get back (I live in Minneapolis now), but I can ask on FaceBook and see if any of my classmates can post one up. A couple work at the school now, so that shouldn't be a big deal. Now's a good time to take photos too... Thanks and again would love to get some notes if you have the time. Best wishes --Natcase (talk) 03:08, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Possible Future Vandalism?
Hey, I've noticed that the "Mozart" page is locked. I have a feeling "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Mozart" needs to be locked too, due to recent news. I'd do it myself, but I don't know how. I can edit locked pages, but I can't lock them. Thanks. --MosheA (talk) 11:21, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hello. Protecting pages is limited to administrators only, which is why neither you, nor I, can protect or unprotect a page on our own. To request protection of a page, please see requests for page protection. However, in general, pages are not preemptively protected; protection is usually used as a last resort against severe, ongoing vandalism, as we want to encourage productive participation by all editors, even new or unregistered ones. I would keep the page on your watchlist. If you see an edit that is obviously vandalism, feel free to revert it. However, unless the page starts being vandalized by many different editors, a protection request will likely be denied. Regards, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 15:42, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

damagegood I could do with the tools. If nominated, I will accept. However, I believe my chances of surviving RfA with fewer than 10,000 edits and only three months of service are small. How about YOU, sir? Vicenarian (Said · Done) 00:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)- I say...

I hate to say this, but I think Dylan was a little premature with his nomination... I would keep an eye on it and be prepared to pull the plug. - Thank you for your consideration and your constructive criticism. I will thoroughly review WP:CSD and make sure that my future tagging is much more careful. And I think I will let the RfA run its course - if anything, so that I can receive additional suggestions and recommendations for how I can become a better editor. Thanks again, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 15:58, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- If I may comment, that's personally what I was hoping you would do. :) It's a shame that your RfA isn't headed for a pass as it stands; maybe the rest of the week (i.e. the rest of the RfA's running period) will be enough to turn that around? I recall a candidate from a few months ago who initially had 40% support and ended with 70%. Besides, your support percentage (55%) is probably the highest for any recent RfA for a user of your tenure. :) Even if your RfA fails, I still believe you're fully deserving. Edit War
- Edit War - I respect your warning but kindly look into the black record of the other person who is doing all of this vandalizing. The other user was just recently confirmed as to have a sock puppet and is having another one right now too. I assure you that I won’t break the three edit rule but I know for sure that he is vandalizing the article on Marwat. Regards. -- MARWAT 07:52, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- It seems to me the edits in question are not blatant vandalism, but are disputes over content. That falls within purview of the 3RR, and needs to be discussed, not fought over through back-and-forth edits. (Note that I have also warned the other party.) I have requested protection on the page and hope that a discussion can be begun on the talk page regarding the content dispute. I am happy to help mediate if necessary. Regards, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 07:59, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I just saw your mediation offer on the page where I requested for Full Protection of the article Marwat. I have no objection whatsoever to this mediation but kindly ask a clarification from the gentlemen LineofWisdom and Marwat786 (apparently socks of each other and created for a single purpose) who are deleting notable people from the article Marwat. I co-created this wonderful article and have been protecting it from vandals for the last several years. My edits will confirm that I am not deleting anyone's name from this article but rather restoring it to its original form (the one before these two socks started to edit this article). So you must also investigate the track record of those users, otherwise I am open to any rational discussion on the subject. Xoxo -- MARWAT 08:05, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Investigating a user's track record is not what we do when mediating content disputes - we assume good faith on the part of all involved editors, and recognize that there are a variety of legitimate viewpoints on how any article should be written. If you suspect a user of sock puppetry - and that's a serious allegation you should be careful about making lightly - it should be taken up at sockpuppet investigations. If you feel a user has violated our policy against edit warring, you may make a report at the edit warring noticeboard. Otherwise, the discussion of a content dispute should and must focus on the content, not the actions of the editors involved. This is important to understand and accept before pursuing any mediation. Thank you, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 15:48, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- Now, when you have protected the page to the version set by User:Marwatt, rather setting to the version set by two Administrators, I have nothing to say much. I just want to request that see the past record and track it, to know the main culprit and real vandaliser i.e. USer:Marwatt. He is responsible for all the edit warring, as he has spent [ast three years on Marwat in edit Warring. See the history of Marwat. I always have asked for discussion, you could find my request on Discussion's page. I would be personally obliged if you could personally look into discussions about the page. --LineofWisdom (talk) 18:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

User:Marwatt has also started Edit War at Article Anwar Kamal Khan and have inserted the citation tags 3-4 times within 24 hours and is keen to reveert its position. The claim for which he is demanding citation is has been refered and there is a reference proving what has been written there. Despite my continuous pleading that he must read the references before adding Citation tag, he is blindly reverting the article on the Disputed status. The article must be protected and he must be banned, as his intentions are proved i.e. to disgrace and manipulate the notables of rival clan. --LineofWisdom (talk) 18:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- If you believe an editor is acting in an inappropriate manner, you can open a wikiquette alert regarding this. If you have a content dispute, you may seek dispute resolution to help resolve the dispute. I must say, however, accusing other editors of having bad intentions rarely ever is a good approach. In any case, I would request you take this to the appropriate venue(s). Regards, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 21:37, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Not to worry if you don't get it this time around. Took me a couple of truly harrowing nominations to finally get it...and then I gave it back. I removed the comments from the article, as they belonged on the article's talk page. However, I have no involvement with that article beyond removing the out-of-place comments. You may want to ask your question on the talk page of that article. I hope this helps. Regards, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 13:38, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

I hope to be able to support round 2... and fully expect to be able to... your big problem this time was that the RfA was premature. Your revert of my edit
Here. It wasn't sourced when the IP added it, and I didn't think to look for one as I didn't think it was relevant to her pending divorce. Don't ever revert anything that I do ever again. :-p Seriously, though, if you think it's appropriate for the article, and I see that you've sourced it, then no problems. - Naw, hardly a tiff. I just remembered the removed quotation from the source I had previously found, so figured I would give the IP user the benefit of the doubt and add his/her contribution back in, properly sourced. Reverting was easier than typing it back out again or copy-pasting, so this is what I did. :-) Also, "IBDB" isn't a typo... Vicenarian (Said · Done) 16:19, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Wiggins page
Hi Vicenarian
I am new to editing on Wikipedia, and recently created a page for Jerry S. Wiggins, an eminent personality psychologist who passed away a few years ago. You tagged several problems on this page in July; i appreciate your help and have (i think) made suggested changes. How can the tag that you placed be removed now that changes have been made?
best, MSUPPL —Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.10.95.242 (talk) 19:29, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, I've taken the liberty of doing a little clean up on my own. I removed several of the tags, as they no longer appear to apply. You should always feel free to do so yourself, but make sure to say why you feel they no longer apply in your edit summary or on the talk page. I would suggest expanding the biography with more details about Mr. Wiggins' life and career, additional third-party references about him and a photo if you have one that you own the copyright on (or if you can find one freely licensed). Hope this helps. Regards, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 20:09, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
I have little doubt that I'll be sharing the mop with you soon. Reading through your RfA left me with the distinct impression that they've gotten a LOT tougher since my own Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Accounting4Taste -- frankly, I think I would have failed had I applied today. However, I recognize in you someone not unlike myself, who likes to learn how to do things better and listens to the comments of others for hints as to how to improve... I will look forward to perhaps nominating you myself in a few months (or when you feel you're ready). I hope none of the comments were too hurtful. In the meantime, we'll continue to lurk on each other's talk pages ;-) Accounting4Taste:talk 22:56, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
The Resilient Barnstar | ||
The Resilient Barnstar may be given to any editor who learns and improves from criticisms, never lets mistakes or blunders impede their growth as Wikipedians, or has the ability to recover/finish with a smile. All of which are qualities of Vicenarian. Accounting4Taste:talk 23:04, 20 August 2009 (UTC) |
- Thank you most kindly, A4T. This means a lot to me. I wasn't hurt at all by the comments; as you say, I listen for ways I can improve, even from those who aren't the nicest. Whether or not I have admin tools, I am here to stay, and there's plenty of work to be done. Besides, if I need admin help, I've got a few friends I can call. :) Cheers, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 03:09, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey guys. Guess who's here bother you again. Any idea if this talk page is allowed. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be allowed on a userpage, but I can't be bothered finding out if it's the same for anon talk pages. Thanks! Spongefrog, (I am a flesh-eating robot) 20:30, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

- Oh, I missed this. 1) Generally not cool to keep copies of articles in user space if you're not going to work on them. I'd check when it was last edited, maybe leave a message. IP users have the same rights, but we also have to be aware that IPs can be multiple people. 2) Nope. The next step up requires six months of service. As was recently made clear, I only have slightly over three months. 3) You may post as much as you want, friend. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 23:26, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Your assistance is always appreciated. I was probably enjoying that exchange a bit too much to be truly comfortable with it, but I think the individual will now be convinced that when he goes to an encyclopedia to get information, he'll receive it unmediated and uncensored. For the rest, well, I don't keep an eye on ANI but I'm sure if my name crops up there, someone will let me know. Accounting4Taste:talk 20:08, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Admin status requires experience and community trust; you are very new and have very few edits, so it's not possible for us to judge your experience and trustworthiness. This essay is helpful, and you may also want to read over Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship as well. Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 04:05, 26 August

Calling All Stalkers
Hey guys! I've recently created an article on a book by Charles Darwin, which can be seen here: User:Vicenarian/Insectivorous Plants (book). I would like to expand it such that it becomes DYK material. Any and all help would be appreciated (AND will get you part of the credit). Thanks! Vicenarian (Said · Done) 13:46, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, get it in the mainspace then. It's a workable stub, so why not? :) – B.hotep •talk• 13:51, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

←Freaky! Now to flesh it out some more, preferably with analysis from another source. I'd like to avoid a synopsis. Time to do some digging. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 14:40, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- I would help, but I know nothing about Darwin or insectology. If I tried to help I would botch the attempt, and add incorrect or irrelevant information. You would be too polite to revert the edit, and only slightly modify it. As such, the article would be ruined, and it wouldn't get DYK. So I'll stay away. - That's interesting. Can an image of a piece of work that is itself out of copyright be copyrighted? I don't understand copyright law in that regard in my country, let alone America. But, shh, don't tell anyone or I will never pass an RfA :) – B.hotep •talk• 17:07, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

- Re:reproduction permissions Re:Javert – which way would you !vote? Think carefully because there's always one button I could press as my final goodbye after successfully passing a de-adminship... ;) <evil grin> – B.hotep •talk• 17:19, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

←"Bubba hotep (talk | contribs) blocked Javert (talk | contribs) (account creation blocked, autoblock disabled, email blocked, cannot edit own talk page) with an expiry time of indefinite (haha!)"? →javért breakaway 17:21, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- Why is there no "infinite" setting? Indefinite is so... open ended. – B.hotep •talk• 17:26, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- You could always put "infinite" in the box under "other time". :p →javért breakaway 17:28, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- You two are hooligans. :) They want 50 quid a picture?! Think mebbe they'll give one to Wikipedia for free? Vicenarian (Said · Done) 17:27, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- We are a charity case after all. Can't harm to ask. If you haven't done so later, I will do it. Anon. – B.hotep •talk• 17:32, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- I volunteer you to do it, Bubba. Maybe it would seem friendlier coming from a fellow Briton? Vicenarian (Said · Done) 23:12, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
