Photovoltaic power station

I have started an individual good article reassessment of Photovoltaic power station which was rated "good" in 2013 and I think it needs modernizing. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article. Chidgk1 (talk) 15:30, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Dreams of Trespass

On 5 December 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dreams of Trespass, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the novel Dreams of Trespass, which portrays the patriarchy as un-Islamic, was translated into more than 20 languages? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Dreams of Trespass. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Dreams of Trespass), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Heads up

I closed this SPI. Always nothing for you to do, but I like letting regulars know when stuff like that gets closed. Hope all is well. TonyBallioni (talk) 01:55, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

@TonyBallioni: thanks for letting me know, I appreciate the courtesy and hope all is well with you too.VR talk 02:00, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

Did you really mean that?

'For example, Shooting of Oscar Grant is not called "Killing of Oscar Wilde", but that doesn't mean he wasn't killed.'-- Toddy1 (talk) 20:34, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

Nope. I'm trying to juggle too many things in my head at once.VR talk 20:35, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

To answer your question

I rather answer you here as my ip is variable and hence the talk page changes all the time. So, i have been around Wikipedia for quite a few years now, never had an account and never will have one. I just lurk the noticeboards for some reason, arb stuff, RS noticeboard etc. For years now lol. I guess it is like my form of soap opera or something, i cannot even explain it. And mind you, i read perhaps 5% of the threads, if that. So i am not as crazy as i may sound hahaha. There just is something fascinating about Wikipedias bureaucratic anarchism. So i make the very occasional comment to the boards or some very rare gnoming when i read an article and notice something off that is within my ability to fix and so on.

And just in general, the noticeboard is so easy to find. ANI is just 3 or 4 clicks from the main page. And that thread just cought my eye. I always love it when some far-right person gets canned. So i kept an eye on it because i have next to zero confidence in the community to deal with such a person(a fair few people could do reading about the Paradox of tolerance). So i was curious how it would end. I strongly dislike the concern trolling, mocking genuine grievances and so on. So i commented because it was so incredibly stupid... then thought for a minute, realised no one cares what i think, so i removed it again hahaha.

Anyway, i hope that answers your question of who i am and why i commented. Hope this isn't too long and if you have further questions, feel free to ask. Have a good day/night 85.16.47.133 (talk) 00:53, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

Well, thanks for defending me. I definitely appreciate it. Can I ask why you don't want to make an account? Since you've been following things for years now, you'd probably have very good insights to share. It will also allow you to have direct conversations (like we're having now) as you'll have a dedicated talk page. And you'll also be able to edit semi-protected pages.VR talk 01:38, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
Oh, i know what benefits an account adds. I really am not new around here. The main one being anonymity... despite IP editors being called the anons here hehe. To be honest, i had some pretty bad experiences on Wikipedia, being treated less than human more than once. Always presuming the worst, getting accused of being a sock to win ridiculous content disputes and so on. That i am always wrong in regards to any and all policy and so on. You get the picture. One example, a veteran editor wanted to source lots of entries in a list in one article to a load of other articles, then argued half a day that it was fine and then accused me of being a sock when i would not budge. Some lovely content people helped out a lot in that case though, Cassianto and TRM i believe (shame Cass left the Wiki but i cannot blame them). Odd how the 'incivil' ones usually treated me best because they only cared about what was 'best/right' and not who it came from. And as i am as stubborn as a mule, i refuse to conform just to be treated decently. So i just lurk mainly. Actually editing Wikipedia in any of my areas of interest, like modern day politcs, is mainly just a chore and an argument with civil POV-pushers whose entire goal it is to create exactly that atmosphere anyway. I would just not be able to put up with that stuff over any significant amount of time, lose my cool and get blocked... i can pass on all of that and rather limit my editing a lot and not waste my life on that and be in decentish standing(can't say good standing as an IP ever lol).
All that being said, i did have some really good experiences on here as well. People sticking up for me, helping me out, encouraging and teaching and all that good stuff you actually want. The bad just sticks with one more i guess. And i do care about the ideal that Wikipedia is, regardless of how i have been made to feel here on occasion. Tldr, it is complicated and i am stubborn hehe. Ultimately, one should never say never i guess. Who knows what the future holds in that regard.
Oh, and don't even mention 'defending' you. I did nothing. And there is nothing to defend even. It was a mix of concern trolling and a 'gotcha'. Only problem is the dimwitted are not that good at 'gotchas', as the other IP has impressively demonstrated haha. Just as i have demonstrated why i should not edit articles with people like that. Can't hold my tongue... 91.96.162.190 (talk) 02:31, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
I'm sorry about your bad experience. But if you were editing as an IP then its understandable that someone might think you're a sock. For example, that IP you defended me against? I'm pretty sure they're a sock. When people edit wikipedia a lot they tend to get slightly more paranoid - again, that's understandable cause sockpuppetry is so pervasive. You sound like a nice person and I think it would be good to have you on here. If you won't make an account today, then I hope you will consider it sometime in the future. And regardless of whether you make an account or not, you're always welcome to leave messages on my talk page (though take care of WP:CANVASS).VR talk 02:36, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
I don't even blame anyone for being suspicious. Especially in contentious areas and even more so with someone like me who knows more than they should at first appearance. And in general that base suspicion is something that i am willing to accept, just something one has to live with as an IP. As you said, it is there for good reason with so many bad actors. Even i check other IP's to see if they are obvious socks i know haha; and yes the other guy surely had some wikia experience before(learning how to link a diff for such a low effort troll; yeah... no), but always possible it is 'just' a meatpuppet from some far-right telegram group or so(not really any better). The person obviously was doing it in bad faith, is all that is certain from the information availible to me. Anyway, i believe i can and do overcome that suspicion by good faith and honesty in most cases. I always use the talk page before i edit an article for example, explain what i plan to do, invite to discuss and then do it when no one opines (unless it is some typo or the like obviously) And re canvassing, hard to do as an IP probably, never actually thought about it. Would have to be so on the nose super obvious lol. But then again, there surely is rampant canvassing over email and other media in contentious areas anyway. Not really something i would ever consider doing though, so no worries hehe.
Anyway, the sock card does get abused as an ace in the hole in content disputes sometimes, and it just is very disheartening when you argue with someone on content, or in that one case policy, in good faith over hours and days, you cannot agree and all of a sudden you are a sock. Just sucks all of the enthusiasm out of the whole thing. Please don't take the previous comment as painting myself as a victim or anything like that. I understand it is a difficult issue and that it is better to be cautious and perhaps even assume the worst at first. It just is not a very nice thing to happen, 'sock' is pretty much the dirtiest word on Wikipedia, only behind 'paid editor' i guess. Just makes one feel bad when it happens. And please, don't take it easy on anyone you think could be a sock because of my whinging. Just be diplomatic about it, if it is a fringe case. And if it is obvious, have at it haha. I am no fan of them myself, just don't like being called one ;). I need some sleep now. It was nice talking to you and i hope my whinging wasn't too annoying. Have a good one. 91.96.162.190 (talk) 03:51, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
It was nice talking to you too.VR talk 05:33, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

curious site

Have u ever know this site https://ncsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9z4wmR1cIp0qBH8 ? someone in my talk page asking me to participate in survey for his doctorate title, but i don't know if its safe to participate in such survey or not Ahendra (talk) 10:17, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

@Ahendra: thanks for asking that question. I don't think there should be anything unsafe about it. But note this is not an "official" wikipedia survey or anything. I'll ping an admin @Oshwah: and ask for a second opinion.VR talk 16:03, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
I don't see any issues with the external URL or domain. However, like Vice regent stated above, this is not a survey conducted by the Wikimedia Foundation. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:28, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Oshwah. Ahendra, see response above.VR talk 00:38, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
thanks for the reply, sire. its just to be frank, im a bit suspicious about such sudden request to participate in the survey so i didnt participate immediately and asking your opinion first. i hope im wrong afterall. Ahendra (talk) 16:10, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
