Related to the quotation on your userpage
Hi. I was just seeing your userpage and the quotation you added caught my attention as well as the question asked underneath "What do you think about the above?", which i am assuming isn't rhetoric in nature. I was just thinking about the quote and wanted to generally comment if you knew that the quote is attributed to "Raja Nazir, 37, a shopkeeper in Silikote" as per this link, which in turn attributes it to the New York Times. This NYT article probably. I am sure you know this but just wanted to mention it. As per his entire quote, it is clear it was set in the backdrop of the Uri attack and India's retaliation. We are in 2019 now, and Uri: The Surgical Strike is in movie halls and the movie has crossed the 150 crore mark. I wonder what Raja Nazir the shopkeeper would have to say about this, the sheer amount of money and resources being minted off the back of not only the conflict, but the lives of those dying, both soldiers and civilians. Self-interest is paramount. Self-interest for the shopkeeper in his own way, self-interest for the movie-makers too. I wonder if the shopkeeper knows how his words have been used in multiple links online and made us ponder over them. This comment of mine is more of a reflection, as I am sure you can understand, then actually seeking answers, or an "in-depth" analysis etc though I would be interested to know what you think of it too now, 3 years later. - Thanks for the message. I appreciate it. I still think war is detrimental to humans. This is why all major religions (including Islam) preach against it. Have you watched the movie Arrival (film)? They have a quote there: "In war there are no winners, only widows".
- And you're right about self-interest. It also explains why media often promotes hatred. Many media make big bucks out of promoting hatred and rousing nationalism. They don't care that the effect of that will be violent.VR talk 18:27, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
