List of maps edit

Hi Vardion. I really like some of the maps you have made that show one country highlighted, and also its context in the world such as this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:LocationArmenia.svg . It seems that most of these are no longer actually being used on Wikipedia, but I would like to use them myself. I can guess the URLs of many, but not all of them. Is there a list of them somewhere? thanks, Michael http://faganm.com/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.97.18.86 (talk) 21:27, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

(Since I'm not quite certain where to respond, I'll do so both here and at the IP talk page). The maps I think you're referring to, while based on something I made, have been modified and improved so much by other users that I'm not really the person to talk to about them, I'm afraid. In any case, I'm not personally aware of any list at present. Sorry I can't be more help. -- Vardion (talk) 01:27, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Auckland railway network edit

Hello Vardion - still always impressed at seeing the nice ferry map you made for Auckland. Any chance of you doing a railway line map? Appreciate that would be a good bit of work, but the en:Public transport in Auckland article would profit a lot from it. You could use this map to use as a reference, sparing you most of the research - and Google Earth will allow you to track the more exact routes, I guess.

Would be great. BTW - what program do you use to make these maps? Ingolfson (talk) 08:41, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Answered your latest comment on my page (don't know if you watchlist mine, that's one of the things I find a bit cumbersome about the current talk system) Ingolfson (talk) 06:59, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Willie Jackson (politician) edit

I see you have a history of working on the article Willie Jackson (politician). I am looking at it from the project Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles where it is one of the longest {{unreferenced}} tagged articles that does not meet at least the barest minimum of verifiability. It has been tagged and completely without references since June 2006. It would be extremely helpful if you had some references you could add to the article to help support its verifiability and notability. Thanks for any help you can give. References for Leader of the Opposition edit

Hi Vardion, I see that (back in 2004) you created the major substance of the page Leader of the Opposition (New Zealand) which I have just had to tag as unfereferenced. Could you please add your information sources as references? dramatic (talk) 14:05, 5 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Population density map edit

In Image:NewZealandPopulationDensity.png, you say the colour scheme is according to existing colour schemes for such maps. Could you provide a key, so that each colour translates to a range of population densities? This would probably be best as part of the description of the image, not the image itself, so that Wikipedias in other languages could translate the key without having to create a modified image.-gadfium 05:21, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Great, thank you.-gadfium 06:34, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Project talk page tagging for WP:VIET edit

Blnguyen had requested me for the service of TinucherianBot to tag articles in the categories in Wikipedia:WikiProject Vietnam/Categories for the WikiProject Vietnam. I request the members to kindly have a look , carefully verify ALL the categories and remove all the possibly wrong categories. Please Dont misunderstand by being cautious here , as we have faced many issues with such huge scale bot tagging earlier. Once I get the final go ahead, I will start the bot with the final list. Thank you for choosing TinucherianBot for the project,. It is a pleasure working for this project...I have also left a note at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Vietnam#Project_talk_page_tagging and request your comments there. You are receiving this message as you are a member of the project. -- Tinu Cherian - 06:01, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image attribution outside Wikipedia edit

Hiya! I know this might be a bit personal, but I'm looking to use one of your images from the Burkina Faso article in a piece of coursework for school, and it would be useful to know your real name in order to give credit for the image if that's possible. I won't be making money from the piece of work, obviously, and as long as I don't claim it's my own, I don't think I'm infringing the terms of the licence. I understand if you don't want to give out your real name (I probably wouldn't either), but if you do decide it's okay, that would be fantastic - my email address is taffypep (at) gmail (dot) com. --86.129.113.18 (talk) 20:43, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah, sorry, I see you actually only created the source file the image started from. Still, I can cite you as a co-creator if you contact me. Sorry for the inconvenience. --86.129.113.18 (talk) 21:14, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:YablokoLogo.png) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:YablokoLogo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:06, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image licensing edit

Hey there...

I am going through a number of images that have some minor licensing issues. I came across Image:NewZealandElectionGraph2002.png which you uploaded. The licensing on this image is not complete as it was uploaded many years ago. I wonder if you could follow the link to the image page and correct the licensing with a GFDL license (or other free license). If you have any questions or issues, please drop me a note on my talk page. Thanks. --Jordan 1972 (talk) 22:35, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Map Request edit

Hi Vardion,

I don't know if this is an appropriate way to contact you, if not then I sincerely apologise.

In any case, I wanted to ask if you are able (and willing) to provide a larger size version of your world map (this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Newworldmap.png )

I am creating a home made boardgame based on a well known train game. I would like to find something like your image, but with a height of 180cm (or 6ft, ~5100 pixels). That would put the width somewhere around 355cm (or just under 12ft, ~10,050 pixels). The height is the determining factor so it fits on the surface I have available.

I don't know if you have an original in this size, or whether you only ever worked on the original at a smaller size and therefore don't have anything bigger. But I thought I would ask, as I am not sure what the easiest option is for me to find such a suitably sized image. When I increase the image size myself, the quality deteriorates considerably, which I am trying to avoid.

Any help would be appreciated, you can e-mail me at nico 44 AT ntlworld . com, I also saved my 'talk page' to my favourites (my logged ip address) if you prefer to only reply that way. Thanks in advance,

- Steve

Map Request edit

Hi Vardion,

I too have a map request. If you could update maps of Virgin Nigeria route map & Arik Air route maps that would be greatly appreciated or if you could let me know what tool(s) you use to create the maps I'd appreciate that too. I make quite a few updates to those pages and your initial map is something I'd like to keep updated as it adds great value to the page.

Thanks, Ssublyme (talk) 14:17, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Air New Zealand domestic destination map edit

Regarding your Air New Zealand domestic destination map, does it include routes flown by subsidiaries? We should separate subsidiary and mainline into separate route maps. WhisperToMe (talk) 04:03, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

With Delta Air Lines even Comair and wholly owned subsidiaries are treated separately on Wikipedia destination lists. We have Comair_Destinations, for instance. WhisperToMe (talk) 06:13, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

NZ Maps edit

Hello, I'm kuba from polish wikipedia. I'm interested both in New Zealand and maps, so i have question for you. In which program/application you made your population density maps? for example this one. greetings. D kuba dyskusja 20:00, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Capgras delusion edit

I see you've been a substantial contributor for years and years, and Rail transport in Yemen and your early work on New Zealand diplomatic missions (a tiny but damn-near random sampling!) show not only responsibility but initiative; i have to regard you as a valued colleague. So my bet is that this should be discussed only for the record: could you state here, at your convenenience, any sense you can make out of your only edit, 23:06, 9 February 2005, of Capgras delusion? -- or direct me to a previous discussion, if there's one i've failed to find? No one else seems to have commented on it. Thanks!

  • Continuing the work that brought my attention to this, i finally viewed a 3-edit diff that highlights the probability that WP-database failure is involved; that thot may speed your own exploration. Tks again.

MAP: Morocco and western sahara edit

Hello, this map commons:File:OIC map.png in commons does not include western sahara or the OCI recognize this territory as a part or Morocco like the arab league. The only institution which recognize the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is african union. The UN recognize the western sahara as territory but don't recognize the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. Can you rectify the map (see the map on the OCI web site). Thank you.
