I am a student librarian and enjoy writing, reading and reseaching, or helping patrons' with their research, so I hope to expand Wikipedia's collection. I study physical science, pedagogy, Deutsch and mathematics at Appalachian State University. JW and Franz

Hi Justin :) my pleasure to meet you. Sorry if I stepped on your toes, and thanks for inviting me to this discussion.

Essentially, my changes were a question of style. I tried to correct what I felt was inferior wording, add details that were relevant and/or would help the reader understand, and also adhere to the WP guidelines for this project. The points you brought up, as I understand them, are:

(1) Use of JW words such as "publisher", "pioneer", "branch overseer", etc. Why not include a phrase such as "known by the Witnesses as a "pioneer" or some such phrase, just for clarity's sake. I don't feel that including the unfamiliar JW term in a sentence which uses a well-known term is sufficient to inform the reader that the JW term is synonymic to the well-known term; it is not "defining" the term. Your method is similar to some of the proverbs; not all people understand that one half of the sentence illuminates, or helps to explain, the other half. I know I didn't, until I got much older; however, students (and I suspect that many of them will be coming here to WP) are not very old. If you feel that "religion" is more appropriate than "religious group", it is not an issue for me; it was a matter of style to me. "Organization" is not specific to Jehovah's Witnesses, despite the fact that its use is common within the JW community; the term relates to any and all organized groups, and the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society is included in that category.

(2) Reference to Knorr as the final word on submitted articles. I am probably in error there. I've read both of Franz's books, and many sections of them twice or three times. But I haven't read any parts of them in the last year, and so I edited that sentence from what I thought I knew, from memory. It was most likely Karl Adams responsibility. But I know that some of the writing department's work went to Knorr, because on one occasion he brought it to Fred Franz and asked, 'What do we do now?' (I think that was related to the restructuring of the organization in 1976). I meant to bring the books home from my place of employment today, but forgot. I'll check them again tomorrow.

Franz's footnote on page 187 of "In Search of Christian Freedom" states, "...there were three persons whose signatures were required on all material for publication: those of Nathan Knorr, Fred Franz, and Karl Adams." Whether Knorr or F. Franz actually read all of the material before giving their approval is questionable. Franz makes it apparent in "Crisis of Conscience" that Adams had his subordinates submit their work to him 'for editing and approval' (pages 24 and 25), and that Adams sometimes brought their work to the attention of Knorr (pages 26 and 27). So it seems that Adams authority to approve content was limited, and that Knorr expected to be informed in instances where those limitations were reached.

It seems that we are left with a cloudy situation, my friend :). Express it in any manner you like.

I just checked the article and found that some semi-reverts have been made since last night, ostensibly in the pursuit of a finer article. I am all in favor of that, and yet so many errors have been introduced by these changes that I tend to think that there is an ego problem involved. I don't want to waste my time arguing with editors who introduce errors and do not check their work simply because they want it done their way. For instance, Ray Franz does not have to be addressed as "Raymond Franz" throughout the article. The article is titled "Raymond Franz". We all know it is about Raymond Franz. The only time it is necessary to make a distinction between the two Franzs is when Fred Franz is being spoken about; then it is appropriate to write HIS full name in the article. This is rather rudimentary, yet some editor insists on doing it 'his way'.

I don't have a lot of time to spend on Wikipedia. I don't want to waste it in endless discussions about why such-and-such an edit is right or wrong. I'd prefer to work with editors who are more knowledgeable, such as yourself, and devote what time I have to quality edits. In the spirit of Wikipedia :). --RogerK 01:26, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Announcement: If someone requests help or feedback on an article, please try your hardest to help them out if you are able. Thank you. Project News The LGBT Portal has once again been revamped and a work rota started. Efforts towards Featured Portal status are slowly coming together. The assessment system has been a great success, we have tagged over 4000 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system. The Translation department has changed its focus, to LGBT articles about non-English topics and people on which there may be more information on the relevant foreign Wikipedia. Please add your name if you are fluent in any language other than English. Jumpaclass is picking up slowly, with nine people having entered. With over 2000 stubs we need to improve our article quality. Please sign up and get it going! Challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub! There is an ongoing discussion about the current LGBT categorisation system here, here, and a little bit here. A special page has now been set up here to deal with this. A Watchlist has been set up to monitor controversial and/or highly vandalised articles. It can also be used for article disputes, just add a note explaining the nature of the dispute. With the influx of so many active members, there is now enough support for a LGBT studies peer review, which may be found here. It's in the beta phase at the moment, so bear with us if we make any mistakes. Feel free to peer review any articles you have been working on. It was agreed this month to start reducing the uses of the Notice board, as many members felt that it was not effective. An open tasks template has been created, bringing together important announcements, FAC/FARs, Peer reviews, XfDs, the COTM, and requested articles. You may desire to watchlist it. A Deletion sorting subpage is also now working to bring together XfDs - this should be bot-driven, but we have not currently tagged enough articles to make this fully automated, so please update the list with any LGBT-related XfDs you come across. Article news Two articles were recently shepherded through the Featured Article process by two of our members - Same-sex marriage in Spain and The Well of Loneliness. News Cape Lookout Lighthouse Hello WikiProject North Carolina members! A few of us at the The Newsroom Team decided to get together and re-energize the project, through these newsletters. This newsletter is hopefully the first of many to come. We want this project to be active in creating and expanding articles related to our state. If you're a current or former resident of the state, we hope that you will help spread the knowledge of how much there is to learn about North Carolina. A great way to expand new articles is by keeping track of the new articles list. Please add any new NC-related articles or older ones you come across that have not been tagged with the project banner. When you notice an article has been added to the list, read over it and check for citations, grammatical errors, and spelling. If you've written a NC-related article in the past 5 days, read the requirements for Did you know... and add your article to the DYK nomination list. It might be chosen for the Main Page! If you see a new member added to the project list, a great idea would be to leave them a welcome message on their talk page. Show them we notice new members and that we want them to become active participants. Congratulations to the editors who helped promote List of tallest buildings in Charlotte, List of North Carolina hurricanes (1900–1949), List of North Carolina hurricanes (1950–1979), and List of North Carolina birds to featured lists. Let's try to get a few more articles to featured status. North Carolina would be a great (and obvious) choice. Congratulations to the editors of Climate of North Carolina as well. This article was recently promoted to Good article status. A few suggestions for articles we can work on for GA are Raleigh, North Carolina, Charlotte, North Carolina, Greensboro, North Carolina, Geography of North Carolina, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. If you're a history buff, check out List of Registered Historic Places in North Carolina. There are many articles to be written and your help would be greatly appreciated. Hi, I have found your username from the spirituality section. I need your help and suggestion. I am trying to add an article on one of the Living spiritual teacher. but,I am facing an problem.

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum

Hi Vap0rtranz,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

• Each casebook will have a subpage.

• Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
• It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
• Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.

• I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. As a participant of WikiProject LGBT studies, you are invited to participate in the third annual Wiki Loves Pride campaign, which runs through the month of June. The purpose of the campaign is to create and improve content related to LGBT culture and history. How can you help?
