Hi Laura, since you kindly reviewed my article I have expanded it a lot. I was wondering if there was any chance if it was A-class and if it was how to go about assessing it. There doesn't seem to be an A-class review section on WikiProject swimming and I'm not sure where to go next.
Any thoughts apprecicated. JZCL 17:15, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Women's sports
editHi, First of all I'm not sure if I should answer here or on my own talk page, so I was thinking this would make it sure you'll read the message the easiest. Thanks for your message and for willing to offer help! I am not necessarily focusing on women's sports only, but surely the interest in sports goes there as well. Do you have any specific sports you like? LindaSportGirl (talk) 23:05, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds good, basically for me the same. Anything that is sports gets my interest. I can't really explain it, it's just a passion, a feeling and above all it's just me. Been like that all my life and now found my way into Wikipedia after first just checking it out. Currently I'm focusing mainly on recent events and then trying to expand articles on people that achieved something recently. I will be inactive at the end of July and beginning of August as I will be in London for the Olympics and in that case I rather be there myself instead of spending time behind the computer :) LindaSportGirl (talk) 23:25, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- Very nice work. Great to see what you achieved to get in with the teams and take photos of them to improve the articles. The photos and articles on them look very good. You opened my eyes with this and perhaps I could do something similar in the future with certain events or squads. Great stuff! LindaSportGirl (talk) 00:22, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- I know where to find you now... may I ask you why your interest is mainly based on women's sports? LindaSportGirl (talk) 01:09, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Rwanda women's national football team
editThe article Rwanda women's national football team you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Rwanda women's national football team for things which need to be addressed. Hehe, Laura I no longer believe you that you're not a fan. You love Bieber LOL. BTW, his twitter article ought to have a webscreenshot under fair use to identify it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:55, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- No. No. No! :P I abandoned the T:TDYK nomination because I didn't think I could fix the problems and I didn't want another battle even if I did. (And I just wanted an anti-Bieber message on the front page of Wikipedia. Not a love of Bieber.) If you want some lulz, check this out. :) --LauraHale (talk) 10:07, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
I bet your bedroom walls are covered to every square inch, ceiling too with Bieber's mop and obnoxiously cherubic face adorning it. Either that or Scooter Braun is paying you mega bucks or a younger sister is a Belieber and has locked you in a cell with only the computer and Internet and is forcing you to write article on Bieber and will only release you once they're good articles LOL.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:01, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Crappy iphone picture of one wall of my bedroom. You will notice the distinct lack of Bieber. You will on the other hand see a penguin. You may see a poster of a female soccer player and some soccer scarves and possibly Cookie Monster. Also maybe some Starbucks mugs. NO BIEBER. :P Bieber is rigidly for heterosexual teenaged girls and that's not me. NO BIEBER! :P --LauraHale (talk) 12:24, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Hehe, well we cleared that one up! You must be doing it for viewing figures then, if you genuinely are not a Belieber!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:30, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- No, because honestly? The DYK numbers were truly awful and disappointing. They aren't inspiring for getting more traffic. I will admit I did a spoken word version of Luka Magnotta because it was highly visible... but I hadn't read the article until AFTER I started to actually started to record it. Things I could have done with out knowing... everything in that article. (I also did a spoken word version of a DYK article because Sue Gardner was the creator of the article.) The Bieber article is academically interesting as some one with a thesis like this. (early draft.) --LauraHale (talk) 12:33, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Bieber is a lot of things, academically interesting would be the last on the list of things than would come into my head. I guess if you are a media studies student researching the impact and hype that mass media is able to create then an essay on it might be of some value..♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:47, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- I've debated actually writing about Justin Bieber for a paper... and then I remembered my path to academic glory is actually Australian sport, Twitter/Facebook and Australian sport, and Wikipedia. I'm having a bit of fun trying to determine the relative influence of Wikipedia on thought formation on Australian sport, and how to develop a methodology to do that. Twitter is actually a metric I am considering putting into discussion to gauge the influence. --LauraHale (talk) 21:49, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Spoken articles - format OGV :( and OGG :)
editHello! My work is to download spoken audio files, convert them to MP3 files and add to the torrent (see Wikipedia:Spoken articles#External links). It is trivial for .OGG files with the help of Audacity free audio editor, but I don't know how to convert .OGV files created by you :( Do you have any ideas? -- Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 17:19, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
- I've been using Miro Video Converter to convert my files over. A simple rename of the files from .ogv to .ogg shouldn't impact the file at all. Hopefully that helps? --LauraHale (talk) 20:41, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link to Miro converter, it works.
- I think that the renaming files from .ogv to .ogg is useless, because it don't change the internal structure of the file which corresponds to the file extension.
- I have tried to open .ogv file in my audio player Winamp. It failed to play it. :)
- OK, audio files produced by you can work in Wikipedia only. It is enough... may be. -- Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 12:12, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
- Have you tried? I created a spoken word file for Luka Magnotta today. I just changed the extension from .ogv to .ogg by renaming the file before I uploaded and several people, including myself, have not had a single problem with the file working. I don't think there are differences in how the file works in this case. --LauraHale (talk) 12:57, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, .ogv file works perfectly in Wikipedia, I tried it, since wiki-engine understand .ogv format. But usual audio players are stuck with .ogv files. ... .ogg is more widespread. -- Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 14:10, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
- No, the sound file I spoken word file I created for Luka Magnotta was an .ogv. I uploaded it as an .ogg based on your earlier issues. I did not convert the file format from .ogv to .ogg, all I did was manually change the file name from I think File:Luka_Magnotta.ogv to File:Luka_Magnotta.ogg. No one has had any problems with this. Have you tried to save audio files in .ogv as .ogg with out success? --LauraHale (talk) 21:29, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Conflicting information in the Jane Moran article.
editHello Laura.
Thanks for your contributions to the Australian women water polo articles.
I have been copyediting the Australian water polo ladies after the announcement of the team for the Olympics. When I ce'd Jane Moran, I came across some conflicting information. The article says that, in 2010, Moran scored a goal against USA in "the team's finals victory 10-8 victory over the United States" in the FINA World Cup. However, when I check that article, it says that USA won the final, 6-3.
The conflicting information seems to have been there all the time from your rename to the article space on 24 February. Would you be so kind as to check where the error is?
Thank you.
HandsomeFella (talk) 08:19, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- No idea why the error. Could probably have been just an idiotic mistake on my part. (That said, any improvements to the Jane Moran and the four other players who are on the squad but are not at Good Article status would be fantastic as 11 of the players are at Good Article and it is with in each of a WP:Good Topic. --LauraHale (talk) 09:07, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- I checked the available web source for the sentence, and it seems to have been in a warm-up tournament – the Auspole Longmont 10th Anniversary Tournament – just before the 2010 FINA World Cup that Australia won the final 10-8 against the USA, and Moran scored a goal. I'll remove that specific sentence, as a goal in that tournament s probably not noteworthy.

DYK stats
editAre there stats on who has passed the most DYKs? You must be near a record of some kind, from what I understand about the number of your DYK contribs. Pine✉ 10:20, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- Stats are at Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of DYKs. I'm not in the top 50 yet. I'm just a stats junkie. Hence all the stuff on my user page. I'm in many ways actually more proud of the huge number of spoken word articles I've done relative to a lot of people. --LauraHale (talk) 10:24, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

your articles on twitter effects
editGood job & interesting, It seems to show that people are more interested in the scandal than the players, which does not surprise me. But I'm not sure that if you did the actual tests of significance all the effects would reach 0.05. DGG ( talk ) 19:50, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
- In these cases, the blog articles were actually expanded quite a bit. They weren't meant to measure anything beyond what they measured in a very, very limited context for the most part. (And the methodology behind them is almost more important than the actual results.) The whole population is known. Probably not very significant unless patterns emerge from other cases. --LauraHale (talk) 20:59, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Anguilla women's national football team
editI see you have nominated a fair share of women's national football teams for the GAN process. I also see you are the sole biggest contributor to the article, so would you think it is ready to be nominated for the GA process? Oakley77 (talk) 22:42, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
- no, I do not think it is ready. Hence, I did not nominate it. If I was taking it to GA, I would create sub-articles about the junior national teams, summarize that more in the article probably in the background section. Once that was done, there is a palpi city of sources , so I would need to find more. The article on Zambia women's national football team is probably easier than Anguilla because of the sourcing and re-organizing issues. If you want to find more sources, improve te article by creating the sub articles and integrating the information in and out, then I might consider nominating but I would guess four hours of work required and an external editor to grammar check.-- LauraHale (talk) 23:05, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Meetup
editHi Laura
I am still insterested in a Canberra meetup. Times for me would be Saturday or Sunday afternoon or possibly evening. I prefer a quiet venue where we can talk, so noisy bars are not so good! Especially bars with loud music. If you do something in the centre of Canberra it is easy for every one to get to. The outdoor places are pretty chilly now! So is the special event at your place is supposed to be an online instructional opportuunity rather than a general purpose meeting? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:45, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
- Is the only Australian Woman paralympic shotput medalist in recent times Jodi Willis-Roberts? I thought I took a photo of a paralympic shotputter, but what I have does not match what you see elsewhere on the web.
- And that Scope can be pretty busy on the weekend at lunch time, but they tend to shut down by 4 pm, so starting at 3 may not be enough time. 2 hours+ is better. It is not so easy to get to for those on bikes, foot or buses either! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:56, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

In exchange, although I would gladly do the request for nothing, of course, I would like for you to see if this article is ready for the GAN process, and if so, can you nominate it? I would of course, but I am temporarily removed form the GA process so I can't nominate, review, or sign my review page posts. If you nominate, I can make the changes the editor requests but I just can't sign my changes on the review page. Hooroo and many thanks, Oakley77 (talk) 19:04, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

- Hmm, found the Aussie gymnasts page here - I think Larissa is third-from-right (who you've identified as Emily Little, who I'd say is far left....) - what do you think? Nikthestoned 09:06, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I know nothing about gymnastics lol! So not sure if I'm best placed... But I'd say it goes (left-->right)
- Emily Little, Lauren Mitchell, Peggy Liddick (coach), Kate Lundy, unknown-in-shirt, Larrissa Miller, Georgia Bonora, Ashleigh Brennan.

African women's football teams
editWhat do you think about me doing a GA review of your African women's football teams simultaneously? This could ensure consistency across the articles. I won't do it if you're against it, but it seems like that could be a more efficient way of addressing them than individual reviews. I refer to:

Derivative images etc
editHi again! I created a couple (1 & 2) of derivative images for usage in their respective infoboxes (1 & 2) - I'm not so good with licensing / commons etc so feel free to correct any mistakes I made in attribution or whatever... I also fixed the categorisation of your other images, I think they're now all right! Let me know if I messed any up though... Cheers, Nikthestoned 16:20, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Would you please specify why you consider the quote ‘incomplete, misleading’
edit"...in [July] 1945... Secretary of War Stimson, visiting my headquarters in Germany, informed me that our government was preparing to drop an atomic bomb on Japan. I was one of those who felt that there were a number of cogent reasons to question the wisdom of such an act. ...the Secretary… asked for my reaction, apparently expecting a vigorous assent. … I had been conscious of a feeling of depression and so I voiced to him my grave misgivings, first on the basis of my belief that Japan was already defeated and that dropping the bomb was completely unnecessary, and secondly because I thought that our country should avoid shocking world opinion by the use of a weapon whose employment was, I thought, no longer mandatory as a measure to save American lives. It was my belief that Japan was, at that very moment, seeking some way to surrender with a minimum loss of 'face'. Put by me on Debate over the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to counterbalance the (misleading?) quote by Winston Churchill - and deleted by you. Thank you.--Robertmossing (talk) 08:48, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
