Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Rivers of Edo State

A tag has been placed on Category:Rivers of Edo State indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 17:37, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

@Liz Hey, There's a draft that would go into that category when it goes live on mainspace. That is why I created the cat. Take a look at the draft Draft:Ovia River.
Do you think it should be deleted? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 18:10, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Liz Can I now go ahead and remove the speedy tag? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 20:31, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

John Allen (settler)

Hello, Vanderwaalforces,

Before draftifying an article, please check to see who the article creator is. If they are an experienced editor, they are probably working on the article and improving it. You have only been editing Wikipedia for a month now so please do not draftify articles by editors who've been editing and creating articles for years now. It's best to avoid stepping on other editors' toes.

If you have questions about this, ask me on my Talk page or bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:30, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

@Liz Hi, while I was patrolling using the copypatrol tool I found that the percentage of plagiarism was high. That was why I draftified. What should I do if I notice something of that sort next time? Or, because I have been editing Wikipedia for just one month? Am I not allowed to support the project with little administrative task that I am capable of? Should I stop patrolling articles and just mind my business on here?
What do you suggest, please? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 07:47, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
@Liz I really do not think this is a solid or a constructive feedback and it goes against being bold. @Vanderwaalforces Please feel free to step on everyone toes. Be bold in applying policies but also accept it when you make mistake.
Happy editing FuzzyMagma (talk) 09:20, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Nomination of F102 highway (Nigeria) for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article F102 highway (Nigeria), to which you have significantly contributed, is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or if it should be deleted.

The discussion will take place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/F102 highway (Nigeria) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

I want to talk a bit more about this here, as discussions at AfD can get long-winded and unhelpful after a while.
The principal problem is you added content without sources. We absolutely need content, particularly new content, to have references that adequately show the information is both factually accurate and important to include in an encyclopedia. Indeed, this is so important, the editing box that appears every time you edit any page (including me writing this message) says "Encyclopedic content must be verifiable through citations to reliable sources." Anyone can claim, "The F102 is a vital transportation route, facilitating trade, travel, and connectivity between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin." - wouldn't you expect it straightforward to find a source for this? As a similar example, M25 motorway says "The 117-mile (188-kilometre) motorway is one of the most important roads in the UK", and indeed it's not hard to find a source for this, such as this piece from the RAC Foundation which describes it as "one of the longest and busiest ring roads in the world" while this article from the Arup Group says "The M25 Motorway ... encircles almost all Greater London and provides access to important destinations such as Heathrow Airport and Dover Port. One of Europe's busiest motorways, the M25 carries some 15% of all UK Motorway traffic and has had to continually evolve to support the economy" Without sources like these, such important claims can't realistically be made.
One thing I try to do with articles nominated for deletion that I think should be kept is always try and at the very least add one source that adds some verifiable content to the article. For example, working on Jess Scully's article right now, I don't think I've expanded it beyond stub-level yet, but I have added several sources to clearly show its potential.
In general, if you cite what you write using significant coverage in multiple, independent, reliable sources, your work won't get deleted. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:15, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
@Ritchie333 Thank you for coming here and I must be honest with you, I deeply appreciate the explanations. I totally understand what you said. As a matter of fact, I am already aware of those policies (WP:V, etc). I am finding sources to back up every claim on the articles, and even more like the Trunk A road like A2 highway (Nigeria). I will fill those gaps and cite sources too. One thing about me and creating articles is that I don't bother creating articles about topics that I can't find sources to cite, but, because I didn't create these articles (although, I would have created them later, but at least after finding the right sources to use), it is now pressing for me to look for sources. I am happy you came here to clarify, and it is deeply appreciated. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 12:30, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, and thanks for adding sources to the article. I'm just taking a look to see if I can use the sources to expand the article myself, but I can't see where the SBM Intel source states this highway is 2,183 kilometres long - is it in the downloadable report? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:00, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
@Ritchie333 I am still looking too, that source didn't state it on the webpage and I am yet to check the downloadable pdf. I will keep looking if I can find anything useful. Thanks for your assistance :) Vanderwaalforces (talk) 13:09, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted

Hi Vanderwaalforces, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:44, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

@HJ Mitchell I'm so honoured. Thanks for commending my work. I will continue to do this important work of improving the encyclopedia with missing information, after all, it's a work in progress. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 11:47, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
