What?

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, we must insist that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on WP:FPC. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. —Vanderdecken ∫ξφ 10:55, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

What is not civil about saying that something is pointless and of low quality, which was moreover expressed by others, too? It's my opinion based on what I think and I didn't say something like "this sucks" or "fuck you" or so. Oh, and I don't like blind patriotism and righteousness because it always leads to tragedies. And again, it's my opinion so respect it. --Svetovid 11:13, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

New signature

Hi Vanderdecken. How do you like my new signature (I'm asking this because I modeled it after yours)? Also, I just want to let you know that this is not my primary focus and, as a result, I just got bored and fiddled around with a new sig. One more question: Where did you get the name Vanderdecken? ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 13:43, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Y Done. While I was studying for a spelling bee, I found a list of Dutch words, however, I've forgotten all of the words except for Mælstrom, of which I don't really like the sound, but as I've already gone through the renaming process, I'll keep my Latin name. Heil comma, ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 16:28, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Here, how did you know that IP's name? I did a WHOIS lookup and I found the city, but still, how did you know the name? ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 23:37, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh. Figures, I just looked in the section labeled "Location" above the output. ~ Magnus animum ∵  φ γ 11:56, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Do you know Be bold policy? That's the policy I followed deleting those sections. Wikipedia ain't place like StrategyWiki (ie. all Gameplay and Maps sections), nor infosite (FiOS grand tournament), and nor place where can be presented video game leagues. Good faith, you say? I say last version was a crap, and I deleted (per Be bold) IMO nonsense, which did not match to encyclopedia. If you say it is on clean-up, then you (or person, who cleaning it) have/has it on your/his own namespace or hard disk. Then why should this not notable info be here? Hołek ҉ 17:25, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Quake III Arena

Hi, Was there a consensus reached in removal of a huge chunk of material in this page? A majority of removed chunk does not violate original research policy and they also do not sound like a game play guide. Sections like, Special Awards, Maps, Weapons etc., are neither original research, nor a game guide sort of sections. I saw that, you reverted those changes. But again, someone, I think TTN have reverted it back by removing the same chunk. Was a consensus reached on the talk page for removing this? I don't see any. Please reply on my talk page... Mugunth 08:22, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Your request for third opinion

I have removed your request for third opinion without providing one, because it was not following the guidelines at all. For example, NO usernames should be provided, and the current request clearly tries to lead the one providing the third opinion to a conclusion before even having read the talk pages.

See the example on WP:3O for a good way.

I look forward to seeing your edited request.

Luser

Thanks for your note. There is nothing uncivil in describing "witticisms" that appeal to a nerd's sense of humour but probably not to your regular Joe's as "nerdy witticisms". If you feel offended by that, I apologise, but I'm not sure what your grounds are: you don't consider the section witty or you don't consider them to be nerdy? Or you're a nerd and feel that it's insulting to suggest that I should think that things are funny for you but not for me or others? Given that 99.9% of humanity does not know what this stuff is all about, I'd say it's a fair call. I consider the section totally unencyclopaedic. It's clearly meant to be humorous, and that's a tone encyclopaedias generally steer clear of. Other forums exist for expressing rarefied senses of humour. This strikes me as particularly Uncyclopaedic. Please refer to the policies on contested material. It's perfectly okay to remove it and then discuss it. So put forward your defence. Why do we need to suggest that a small tactical nuclear attack might be a good tool for "readjusting" "lusers"? I remind you before answering the question that there is in fact no such thing as a LART outside the jargon, so take that as your basis for discussion please. Grace Note 09:09, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I know it's part of n-word jargon, but the tone struck me as overly facetious. I don't have time to fix it just now, but maybe we could compromise with something a bit more objective. For instance, rather than say "A LART is a...", and then a jokey list of things it could be, we would say "LART is a term used in blah de blah", source a couple of people talking about them, that kind of thing. What do you say to that? Grace Note 01:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

HL2DM

Hi Vanderdecken,

Any chance you could revert the HL2DM page again? This guy is determined to wipe it out. He claims it is "strategy and gameplay" but in reality none of the information told you how to do anything in the actual game itself, but it did give a nice description of some of the things that make HL2DM unique from other games, and from the single player it was born from.

Approach and tone on Template:Welcomeg

Vanderdecken, your approach in toward Lara on Template talk:Welcomeg has been overly harsh and critical of a well-intentioned user. Lara was WP:BOLD in productive changes and bothered to comment requesting review on the talk page. You reverted all of Lara's edits as well as multiple edits by other well-intentioned editors, all of which had to be re-made, based on a lack of consensus. You were completely correct in reverting the edits, but your disagreement was the first to be voiced. In fact, multiple supporting comments were present on the talk page, hardly an obvious lack of consensus! You did this without even bothering to comment on the existing talk-page discussion, initiated by Lara requesting review(!) Template_talk:Welcomeg#Aaah.21. Lara has shown clear understanding or working together toward consensus on this article, while I feel you have shown limited understanding of civility and not biting the new users. This is not intended as a personal attack, please take it as constructive criticism. Thanks for all your work with the project.. here 20:58, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. Regarding specifics changes to the templates, I'll keep them to the template talk page. I agree that you were fine to revert the changes and request further discussion, but I was put off and felt the need to comment on your approach. Thanks again for your contribs... best. here 18:49, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
  • FYI I'm pretty sure that Lara is a sockpuppet of a banned (and very disruptive) user - Vinay412 (talk · contribs). So don't beat yourself up about reverting his changes! andy 22:20, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
There's a number of reasons: he comes from the same region of India, appeared a couple of days after a massive blocking of related sockpuppets, started off by editing a couple of articles that Vinay412 or his socks had edited, leaves very similar chirpy edit summaries, has a somewhat aggressive manner, and spends a lot of time "improving" templates. I'm keeping an eye on him. andy 10:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Image tagging for Image:Rogers.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Rogers.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Fair use rationale for Image:SourceForts2.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:SourceForts2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 21:07, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Image:SourceForts1.jpg

I have tagged Image:SourceForts1.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. BigrTex 21:08, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I need some help

Hey there. Thanks for your message.

I do need a little help. I've been working to improve the article for the band Army of Freshmen. I've made a lot of improvements to it. I revamped the existing article, which was just a paragraph that was clearly cut and pasted from something promotional. I need help figuring out how to get rid of the neutrality and the "does not cite sources" tags. Can you help me do that? Chrissypan 16:13, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Chrissypan

Thank you!

Thanks for your help! Removing the tags is easier than I thought, I guess!

I've looked at the entries for bands like Bowling for Soup, Smashmouth, Quietdrive, etc, and tried to format the Army of Freshmen entry to look like that, since those are well-done examples of pages about bands.

I believe that I've corrected the issues that the tags refer to; if you want, you're welcome to take a look at it and let me know if you agree.  :) Chrissypan 18:13, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Chrissypan

Wadsworth Falls

Hey there. I was interested in making a page for the park I work at here in Connecticut, and I see that there are actually two pages for it already. I'm planning to put the information from the sparser page (which I input a couple of days ago) onto the more comprehensive one. Obviously, they should be merged... How do I do that? Is there a way to just delete the unnecessary one?

You can see what I mean if you look at the pages for Wadsworth Falls and Wadsworth Falls State Park. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrissypan (talkcontribs) 21:27, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:X360 Logo.png

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:X360 Logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:15, 14 October 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. KipSmithers T/C 21:15, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey

Hi, I'm Dimitri from the Dutch language Wikipedia. I'm currently looking for people of about 14 to 18 years interested in politics, economy, education, business, culture or management. In March 2007 we started up a Dutch language site where we build a whole country, called Libertas. The site is named Wikistad, which means Wikicity in English. You can take a look by clicking here. Now, we're working on an English version after starting up a Romanian too. If you're interested, just come down here, you'll like it. You can become everything you want: from Prime Minister over businessman to taxi driver. Our country is named Lovia of the Kingdom of Lovia and is open to everybody. This is the URL: http://nation.wikia.com/ I'm looking forward to see you later, Dimitri. -DimiTalen 11:51, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedy tagging

Hi Vanderdecken. Please carefully review WP:CSD for what it does and does not cover. Multiple articles tagged by you in the past few minutes are patently ineligible speedy candidates, or ineligible on the basis tagged: Joyce's Country, Vidyaniketan Public School, Uxbridge Academy‎ , Kevin Chapman‎ , Visual Control, Guadalcazar, San Luis potosi to name just a few. CSD A7 is only applicable to people, groups of people, bands, clubs, companies, organizations and web content and it is only applicable to articles without any assertion of importance. This means that article need not meet WP:N or WP:BIO to take them out of A7 range. We debate on the merits whether articles meet those standards (and others) at AfD.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 17:03, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Re:HL2DM

To be perfectly honest it doesn't present a very good start for the article to suddenly be hit by a bunch of abbreviations that are only used by fans (who when they use it don't generally use proper grammatical English). You look around other featured or good game articles and they don't do it: could you imagine if every game article had its abbreviation in the intro? It would be a mess, and affects the inital impact of the quality of the article to the reader. Its not in the same vein as something like PS2, which is a universally recognised abbreviation. See Wikipedia:WikiProject_Video_games/Article_guidelines#Style: "Avoid confusing abbreviations, unless they are standard [which in the case of Half-Life they are not]. PS2 is OK; LoZ:OoT is probably not." Common fan abbreviations should certainly exist as redirects but unless they are official parts of the title they shouldn't be used in the actual article. -- Sabre (talk) 18:33, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

You archived this comment before I had a chance to reply, and before you even knew whether I wanted to reply. Could you try to wait about two days after a comment is made before archiving it? Apologies for archiving before you had a chance to comment, I was though expecting a response here rather than on my talk page, so as to keep the responses in one place. The dispute resolution process was also undertaken before the warning was given.--Lucy-marie (talk) 12:38, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
