You were wrong to revert my 107th Congress edit. Lisa Murkowski was appointed in December, 2002 to occupy the seat vacated by Frank Murkowski due to his 2002 election as Alaska Governor. Hence, in the 107th Congress, convening in 2001, Frank Murkowski should be represented as the Senator from Alaska.

More Wolf Stuff

Uther, I know you want what's best for Wiki, but I felt a little attacked there. Maybe (probably) I'm being overly sensitive, but in return for trying to do my part to make Wiki a little better, I got talked down to. It would have been much easier for both of us if you simply told me that we have a policy and tradition of not using sub- and super-, and not been abrupt and, well, a little rude.

Frankly (obviously) I'm not very good with confrontation, and I don't want any ongoing ill-feelings, so I want to cut this off as early as possible. New Homo species ?

Henry Gee (Nature magazine) and prof. Chris Stringer (Natural History Museum, London) have announced to have found a new Homo- species, Homo floresiensis. The remains were found on the island of Flores (Indonesia). This species should have lived till 11,000 BC. But it was close to the Austrolopithecus who had vanished 3 million years ago. There was a report in my newspaper today, but there is nothing yet on the internet. This time, we can beat the rest of the internet and be the first to bring the news. Towns and Townships in New Jersey

Hello fellow DoD Contractor! (I work for an L-3 subsidary)

I was looking at some of your edits to some municipality pages in New Jersey, and I have some confusion. Further, as a Jersey boy, born and raised, I have spend some time trying to wrap my mind around how the NJ state laws and constitution define the types and forms of municipal government.

Hear me out on this...

Take Bloomfield, NJ, for example.

Bloomfield is classified as a Township (either in form or type of government), yet you put it into the 'town' category. I guess that depends on whether the category means 'town' in the generic sense or in the "official" or legal sense.

Now, I have been looking through the municipal categories for New Jersey, and a lot of townships are in the town category. So that got me thinking....

Since there is a lot of confusion concerning municipal government and New Jersey, not only here on Wikipedia but also in day-to-day life, maybe us Jersey folk can clean things up a bit? Maybe we can form a project? 500+ municipalities with 12 formas and 5 types of government in varying combinations?

If you wouldn't want to be involved, thats OK. I would just like to know how to start something like that.

P.S. How many Rutts Hutt rippers to you eat a week???

You're spot on, mate. I admit to running through all of the counties in a rather short time, so I've no doubt there are some mistakes. the category "town" should have all of the govenmental towns, "township" should have all the governmental townships, etc. I'd be willing to work on a project as you've described it, but I'm not able at this time to lead the effort. - UtherSRG 19:28, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Category

Why did you decategorised all my voice samples? The category was not connected to any other public space categories and was merely an aid to help me improve the old .ogg files to new ones. Also, shouldn't you contact me first before you delete part of my User page? Also, you've changed part of my .ogg file license without notifying me. There was no {{cfd}} tag added to any of the pages or the talk pages nor I was notified of the cfd process, which is a violation of WP:CFD#How_to_use_this_page rule 4. I'm not saying that the category is needed, but it would definitely help me if the person who listed it on cfd obeyed the rules. Also, that would allow me to list all pages from the category on my user page. Now this is going to be a lot harder. I'm stil not sure should I revert all those deletions or not. My 12yr old stepson was supposed to have been studying, and apparently decided to edit as well (as I think you may have noticed ;). Primate Classification

Hello UtherSRG. I'm user Bradypus from the German Wikipedia and I just saw you translated the baboon articles. I also somtimes check the English Wikipedia and found out you use a very different kind of primate classification (for instance giving the Aotus-monkeys family status under the name Nyctipithecidae) than we do. Unitarian Universalism

Your recent edit of Unitarian Universalism contains an error. You removed an assertion from the beginning of the article (removed text is in red):

The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee is a related nonsectarian organization, started out of an effort to smuggle Jews and others targeted groups out of Nazi Germany, that works to promote social justice and human rights around the world.

In fact, the then "Unitarian Service Committee" and the Quaker Service Committee were the only major organizations helping targeted groups to flee Germany. Article Licensing

I've "started" the Free the Rambot Articles Project which aims to get users to release all of their contributions to the U.S. state, county, and city articles under the CC-by-sa 1.0 and 2.0 license (at minimum) or into the public domain if they prefer. A secondary goal is to get those users to release ALL of their edits for ALL articles. I've personally chosen to multi-license all of the rambot and Ram-Man contributions under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License so that other projects, such as WikiTravel, can use our articles. I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all your contributions (or at minimum those on the geographic articles) so that we can keep most of the articles available under the multi-license. Many users use the {{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}} template (or even {{MultiLicensePD}} for public domain) on their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I understand, but I thought I'd at least ask, just in case, since the number of your edits is in the top 50 most. If you do want to do it, simply just copy and paste one of the above two templates into your user page and it will allow us to track those users who have done it. For example:

Golden pea

I had moved that page to Aotus (genus) specifically because of a problem with common names, the term golden pea is used to describe all the genus in that legumes tribe, because thay all have yellow folwers --nixie 01:57, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Common names

Ave! Do you object if, since the majority of fish articles seem to be under lowercase names, I move the exceptions to conform with the rest? I suppose not. I was hoping that folks would rally behind the idea of moving everything to upper case naming. Now that fishes is covered by a WikiProject, the Project should decide. And as I know from starting WP:PRIM and WP:CEPH, the person who starts a project tends to be the voice and soul of the project for awhile. So be bold and move them articles! Style

Class="toccolours" is part of the monobook.css skin. All the new infoboxes and navigation boxes are being made with class="toccolours" as this is the per skin styling. The whole point of having a fixed style is that it is fixed. If we let every wikiproject dictate what styling their infoboxes they should the wikipedia would be a mess (and in a lot of cases, it still is). toccolours uses the same border colour as all the other table borders in the skin. The whole point of having a skin is to have a consistent style throughout the site. Your argument is invalid. TOL decides more than just data. You wouldn't allow the animal taxobox to be pink in one stylesheet and green in another would you? The box border divides the box from the article. Having the border color/style change from skin to skin would change the timber of the colors in the box. An improvement would be either a TOLcolours class, or a class for each of the taxobox colors used, or some such system (dunno since I don't modify style sheets) so that there is a reasonable presentation across all of the skins in a manner that conforms to the skin without impinging on the presentation of the data. - UtherSRG 17:48, Dec 14, 2004 (UTC)

Not quite, it's an infobox, not a table (even if it uses the same HTML elements). Perhaps there should be a class="infobox" but no-one has seen a need for it as class="toccolours" is used instead. The wikiproject decides on data etc., the background colour of the headers is data as it tells us something about the speices, therefore is not determined by the stylsheet. Brianism, UUism, Earthseed

Hello SRG,

I clicked about a week ago, but have yet to hear back anything from brianism.org. I read through several talk pages (yours, SpellBott's, etc.) and your contributions to the VfD discussion concerning the brianism wikipedia page. I too have been associated with UUism and think they are a fantastic organization. I am something of a UU evangelist :)

I'm curious whether you were ever contacted by anyone, or whether you just let the Brianism thing go? I'm actively seeking a community of rational, forward thinkers to pour my energy into. I want to use my life to contribute to a grand purpose that is bigger than any one person can be. To learn from and instruct others who thirst for knowledge and improvement of themselves and our species. I appreciate the ethical and social justice community I've found in UUism, but I long for a destiny to work toward.

I'm inspired by the bits and pieces of "The Book of Brian" and "Earthseed: The Books of the Living" that I've managed to collect. If I cannot find a group that has a compatible purpose and organizational focus, I am going to be part of starting one.

I welcome any information about your experience and similar search that you'd care to share.

I think they should be removed. If the link doesn't fit into the article, then it should be included in a "See also" section. Then, as the article is expanded, if any of those links can be included into the text, they should be removed from the "See also" section. Underscores

Underscores in templates simply don't do anything. Putting aside the fact that it's possible to include them, I can't think of any reasoning why they should be included. When linking, we prefer not to underscore, and I think the same should be said of templates. There's no purpose to it. Birds

Hey there! We seem to have a lot of common interests in animals in general. I just put my name on the WikiBird project and saw your name there. I have done some massive work in categorizing the birds, and I was hoping you could review some of my edits and see if I am conforming to everything ya'll have agreed on. I have been categorizing the parrots recently and I am not sure what should be a parrot or not. Mostly I've just been putting general categories on things that have no cat. at all, trying to get them all corralled in so more precise work can be done on them.

Also, something happened with the columbiformes category (Category:Columbiformes). See the Category:Birds and see that somehow about a dozen of them got saved. Well, with WP being so slow, I'm having a hard time looking, so I'll give some general advice from what I see. First, I believe categories in general are still a little buggy... moving an article from one category to another will show it in both until something forces the cache to be flushed and reloaded from the database. Second, watch your capitalization. Since broad-tailed parrot is all lowercase, Category:broad-tailed parrots should also be lowercase. Finally, I consider myself a junior member of the bird project. Give a knock on the talk pages of a few of the more bird-active folks and see what kind of category schemas they may have kicking around their heads. - UtherSRG 02:12, Jan 14, 2005 (UTC)

Hello. Your decision to delete Image:Euflag.png was both unilateral and unexpected. Many articles still link to that image, and I don't see you've taken the trouble to update those articles, and you didn't warn the community that you were about to make that deletion. I'm aware there is a version of that flag in Commons, but that version is different from the one at en:. This deletion did not qualify as a speedy delete, so in the future, I would appreciate it if you first posted a warning in the page you are about to delete and let it stay there for a few days. I would also like that you briefly undelete Image:Euflag.png until all articles linking to it are fixed, and so I can make a copy of the image and the information that was posted on that page. WOW, please be more careful in the future. I took a few seconds to click on the last 10 images you deleted, and I found THREE images that did not exist on the commons ([3][4][5]). Please be a lot more careful about this, as deleted images can't be restored. No. There were over 200 images in Category:NowCommons. To have, what, 4 that caused a problem isn't my fault. I'm a janitor. If there is a problem, it's that the folks who tagged those images did so improperly (or rather, that they uploaded onto Commons with a different name than the image was uploaded to en:. You can't blame people for tagging images wrong, that's like saying it's not your fault for deleting a normal article as a speedy because somebody else tagged it as a speedy. I don't have any doubts that what you did was in good-faith, all I'm saying is to please double-check the commons before deleting images. Deleting euflag.png was especially scary because there were so many pages that used it. It wasn't just 4 images that were a problem, it was three images in the last 10 deletions. Out of the last 100 deletions, here are the images which are now broken: [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] [21] [22] [23] [24] [25] [26] [27]. Unless I'm mistaken, that's a significant number, and some poor soul is going to have to find all of them on the commons, if they even exist, that is. If they don't, then I presume that they're lost forever. I'm sorry if I came off as rude, that was definitely not my intention, but it concerns me that there were so many images that were not on the commons. If you didn't check them before deleting them, then how do we know if they were even on the commons in the first place? User:Circeus keeps deleting the list of selected works in this article. There are more than 650 publications by this botanist. This list of about 20 publications is almost the minimum. They underscore the text. When I state that Robinson has made a thorough study, overhauling the tribe X, then I also give the publication involved, to substantiate my statement. This list of selected works, instead being too long - as claimed by Circeus -, on the contrary, emphasizes the immense importance of this botanist. I agree with UtherSRG that 75% should be considered consensus. There are several users (including myself) who strongly oppose this move. Requested moves Iraq Interim Governing Council

About your recent (non)move of Iraq Interim Governing Council, I think it's fairly clear that User:ExplorerCDT was just wrong in equating it with the Iraqi Interim National Council, though unfortunately only one other user was concerned enough to research it and point this out. It's too bad this did not receive comment from many users (rather like the other Iraq-related change I put up which did not receive any at all), but even then the full correct name is Iraqi Interim Governing Council with "Iraq*i*", which itself is only 1/50 as common in google as the abbreviated Iraqi Governing Council which I recommended. What I'm saying is that the title as it stands now is just plain wrong, and also, by the common name convention the abbreviated form should be used. The reason the vote was "lost" was because of one ill-informed and apparently somewhat confused user; can this be put back up or something for more comment? Just curious - you said that no admin intervention was needed - I thought that once the destination page existed already you needed an admin to move it. Hi, sorry to tell you this after you went to so much extra work, but SPUI, I and a few others have been disambiguating between "Lines" (Sea Beach Line, Seventh Avenue Line) and "Services" (A, B, C, etc.) This way we have only one line name for a particular station. We have taken the line names from current official sources, and they are at User:SPUI/New York City Subway lines. We're actually doing the station lists on the line pages, to avoid duplication across the service pages (and the inevitable duplication of changes when the MTA changes something). R (New York City Subway) is an example of a service page done this way; Queens Boulevard Line is an example of a line page. As for the templates, you want to use the stuff like {{NYCS Sixth}}, so a change of that template will propagate to all the lists. You should probably take a close look at the source for the QBL page. If you're unsure of a line name, check it against Image:NYC subway origins.png (the one thing to note is that we're using Broadway-BMT Line for the BMT Broadway, since it appears the MTA does that now). --SPUI 12:51, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)

New York Subway tables

I really appreciate your work on the New York subway tables, although I have a few concerns. I think it look smuch better if the word "free transer to" is not used, as it is fairly redundant as it is assumed. WP:RM. If One article is to be moved to a title that is currently not deletable because of the block compression bug, I move the bad to "(delete)", delete the created redirect, then move the article into the void created. Ooh! Bad job. Cut-and-paste should not be used to move articles, as it removes the edit history for the article. You should always use the "Move" tab. If you can't, list the article on WP:RM. Hi! I seem to have bungled something, and I've come to you for help because of your kind greeting.

I had decided that the vegetable was by far the primary meaning of kale (in particular, all the links to the disambiguation page intend this meaning (after I removed two links intending meanings for which we do not have articles (from Alapli and KiÄ?evo))), and to be bold and move the current disambiguation page Kale to Kale (disambiguation), and Kale (vegetable) to Kale. I had convinced myself that this would be possible if in the middle I edited Kale to redirect to Kale (vegetable), but I forgot the point that the target of a move must not have an edit history. I believe that now I'm stuck, since I can neither complete my proposed change by moving Kale (vegetable) to Kale, nor backtrack by moving Kale (disambiguation) back to Kale.

I am hoping you can help me fix this, but I'm especially hoping that you might help me better understand the surrounding issues. Am I correct that I can't fix this problem without deleting Kale? Is the renaming a good idea in the first place? What should I have done instead of bungling it? What should I have done after bungling it?

The Great Gatsby

I made two changes to the Great Gatsby article that you recently changed back. I changed the role of Nick Carraway from protagonist to narrator. I did this because Nick is not the protagonist of the novel. Matthew J. Bruccoli, a noted Fitzgerald scholar, calls Nick the "partially involved narrator." Nick does not drive the plot, and none of the action in the novel, except for the first three chapters (which center around Nick's discovery of Gatsby), centers around Nick. Nick is only our window to Gatsby, the protagonist of the story. I also changed the mention of the Great Depression. Yes, Nick is participating in the financial boom that will lead to the Great Depression; however, the novel was written in 1925, when Fitzgerald had no knowledge of the Great Depression. It would not be apt to include more knowledge into the summary of the novel than Fitzgerald would have. Instead, I believed it better to say that Nick was involved in the financial boom of the 1920s, for nearly all readers can understand that era without mentioning the era that follows it. The Great Gatsby has nothing to do with the Great Depression. When I made my changes I provided my reasoning in the discussion of the article. However, when you inverted my changes, you provided no reasons for doing so. Therefore, I ask you why you believe Nick is the protagonist of the novel and why mention of the Great Depression is apt?
